Vonnie pulled the hood of her coat off her head to listen carefully as she leaned up against a tree for support. After pulling off one of her gloves she touched the side of her face where she walked into a tree branch just moments before to make sure her face wasn’t actually bleeding. The branch had just scratched her cheek enough to make it burn like hell but not enough to cause any kind of actual bleeding. Luckily she had sunglasses on or else it would have gotten her eye as well.
After she pulled her glove back on, Vonnie hears a sound that came from her right. Vonnie pulled the hood of her coat back over her head to keep her ears warm, and readied her air gun. Vonnie then started to walk in the direction that she heard the sound come from, using the skills she learned over the past 10 years of hunting ATF agents and trespassers on the old lady’s land. Tracking could have been something Vonnie was good at, if she could manage not to fall, trip or run into tree branches every 10 minutes.

Eli lived for this shit. Stalking in the woods, his trusty air rifle in hand using all of his senses to stalk down his prey and come out victorious. His mother was a medic in the military, he had picked up a thing or two from soldiers on the many bases they had lived on growing up, not to mention all the hunting trips he had been on as a child with Joe. Currently, he was misleading his prey, tossing rocks and breaking branches in the opposite direction he was heading, circling her quietly so he could take her from behind....she would never know what hit her.

After hearing something that sounded like it was very close and sure that it was Eli, Vonnie fired several rounds into the trees just to be sure. In her excitement she forgot to watch where she was going and tripped, falling face first into the snow. Vonnie lifted up her head to look around, but tried to stay as still as she can waiting to see if her blinded shots into the woods had hit anything other then trees.

Not far off in the distance, Erin Reinhold had been on one of her usual jogs through the woods, trying to work the last of her leftover tension from the craziness that was the lunar eclipse. She still struggled with her inner wolf despite all the help she had been getting and nights like that certainly did not help matters. She felt itchy and anxious, and with the kids gone back home to their mother she didn't have any distractions. So she ran, and she thought about things, her life past present and future. She was so caught up in her own thoughts, she did not sense Vonnie and Eli nearby nor did she sense the paintballs flying at her until it was too late. She managed to duck the first one missing her by inches but the next two pummeled into her, followed by two more. They knocked her off balance and she fell to the ground with a loud thud. It took only a few seconds for the pain to start, it felt like someone had set her back on fire and it was slowly spreading throughout her body. She cried out loudly in pain, unable to do much of anything else the pain was so great.

Eli watched Vonnie's display of panicked shooting with glee. He was nowhere near in the direction she thought he was, which was what was going to make this that much more sweet. He came up silently behind her, raising his gun to her back ready to taste the sweet victory when out of the blue he heard it, a woman crying out in pain. He dropped his gun, face a twisted mask of confusion. "What was that?" he asked, a little scared now

Vonnie laid on her belly in the snow and was too busy watching where she shot the gun to notice Eli sneaking up behind her, then when she heard the woman cries of pain she tried to look through the trees to see what had happened, trying to be as still as she could while laying in the snow. When Eli asked his question, Vonnie was startled and rolled to her back with her air gun ready like the paintballs it was loaded with could do anything to protect her. After Vonnie realized it was Eli she tossed the gun to the ground and set up. "I don't know... Do we go and find out?" Vonnie asked in a quiet whisper. "They could need help."

He nodded "Yeah we should but....what if its an animal or something..." he extended a hand the help her up from the snow. "What are we gonna do? Shoot it with some paintballs? That will only piss it off..."

"No... That was human..." Vonnie said, softly. "I'm pretty sure of it." Vonnie looked at Eli, not sure at all. "The paintballs sting when you get hit with them, maybe it'll scare what ever it is off?" Vonnie said, more too herself then to Eli. Vonnie picked up her paintball gun and walked toward where she heard the sound, walking very carefully so she didn't trip and break her ankle and add to the already bad situation

Eli took a deep breath and followed, despite being terrified beyond belief, he wasn't going to let her go off on her own and possibly be hurt like whoever else was out there or by whoever else was out there. He followed close behind her, hugging his own gun to give him some kind of courage, eyes peeled for any danger that may be lurking.

Vonnie grips her paintball gun tightly as they clear the tree line. Upon seeing the woman on the ground Vonnie tossed her gun to the ground and rushed over to help her, her EMT training taking control. "Do you know what happened?" Vonnie asked, pulling off her coat so she could have full use of her arms.

Erin whimpered, her entire body felt like it was engulfed in flame. She had never felt this kind of pain in her entire life she didn't know what had happened or what was happening she wasn't even sure if she knew her own name at that moment. "Something....something hit me I..." Her voice was a low whisper, she couldn't even finish her sentence before another wave of pain rocked her body and caused her to cry out once more.

Eli froze when they came upon the woman in the snow writhing in pain. Her skin looked burnt in places, like someone had just lit her on fire. "Holy shit...." he breathed, knowing that if it hadn't been for his mother and the job she he would probably be vomiting in the snow right now, a part of him still wanted to.

Vonnie reached into her jacket and reached for a bottle of water she kept in the inside pocket so it wouldn’t freeze. Vonnie pulled off her gloves and used the water to wash her hands. It wasn't ideal but it would do the job. While she did this the water wore away at the snow covering the only paintball that hadn't hit the woman. Vonnie picked up the paintball and looked it over, seeing the small etching in the paint ball, then noticed that some of the woman's wounds had gray smears around them. "Are you a were?" Vonnie asked the woman.

Erin was shaking now from cold or from shock she wasn't sure which but she managed a weak nod in Vonnie's direction but that was about all she could manage.

"What does being a were have to do with anything?" Eli asked with a frown, kneeling down next to her to offer his help. He may not have medical training but he had watched his ma do this kind of thing quite a bit...that was kinda the same right? How hard could it be? vonnierae70688

"Because... It's a sliver burn." Vonnie grabbed the bottle of water. "The paintballs you were hit with had silver nitrate in them... I'm going to try and wash off the sliver before it causes more damage. This will probably hurt... A lot. But it will stop it from burning." Vonnie told the woman. In her few months of being an EMT Vonnie realized that telling the person about pain, and letting them brace for it had a better outcome then just letting them find out the hard way. "I'm really sorry about this..." Vonnie took a deep breath and poured the water over the biggest wound with the most visible gray paint on it. Vonnie tried to be as easy as she could and still get the job done correctly.

Erin nodded and braced herself. She didn't know who this girl was or how she knew what had happened to her but if she could help get rid of the pain then she didn't really give a shit. She took a deep breath and bit her lip when she felt the water hit her wound. She whimpered softly and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to shut out the pain and keep herself from turning and ripping the two to shreds.

"You have silver paintballs?" Eli asked even more confused nod. He thought Vonnie was pro animal, especially considering most weres were people as well as animals and the fact that Vonnie's best friend also spent one night a month as a bear. "Why would you have those?"

"I made them for protection before I even got here." Vonnie mumbled, focusing on cleaning the woman's wounds. "What would you do if you just found out the scariest creatures out of the movies were real? I was going to destroy them, I just never figured out the safe way to do it. They must have gotten mixed up with the regular paintballs... I don't know how. I had them marked an in a separate container." Vonnie got the biggest of the wounds cleaned and started to work on one of the smaller ones.

"You can't just carry pepper spray or something?" he asked with a frown, ripping a piece of his shirt from his arm and helping dab some of the silver away from one of the wounds. "I thought you were miss animal lover? You couldn't find a more PC way to defend yourself?"

"I was ignorant, stupid and I'm very sorry..." Vonnie mumbled. "I thought they were evil creatures. I didn't realize they were ordinary everyday people."

What she said was something he had never expected to hear from her of all people, but he knew not everyone was all cool and calm about people who were different, even if they were different themselves. Of course, that didn't make it any less weird for him. "Wow, intolerance is the last thing I'd expect from you....though, still kinda weird you’d keep these things laying around considering Rachel is at your apartment all the time..."

Vonnie looked at Eli confused. "What do you mean by that? I said I was going to destroy them but I didn't know how to safely. Not to mention I was embarrassed to have them, so I didn't want to ask... And Rachel knew they were there. I showed them too her. She can also tell you that I kept them in a jar in my desk, totally separated from the regular paintballs. The only thing I can think of is when Chy was helping me move things into my room she mixed them together..." Vonnie looked at the last wound, then asked the woman. "We need to get you to the ER, these burns are prime to get an infection and it's going to heal a lot slower then you are used to. Do you think you can walk?"

Erin grunted an tried to get up, but failed and fell over. The pain was too much, she could barely understand what the two of them were saying to one another or to her for that matter. "I...uh..." she felt her eyes starting to droop her head felt light and airy she could feel herself slipping away.

"Fuck I think....she's not ...shit we have to go get her to a hospital..." He said, ignoring the badness for now and trying to focus on the injured girl in front of them. He leaned down and scooped her into his arms. "Where's the car?"

"She's going into shock, I think..." Vonnie picked up her jacket and put it over the girl as Eli carried her. "We parked in the parking lot below the trails." Vonnie points. "If we fallow it we should find it right? It's not that far away, we didn't go very far from where we started in the first place."

He nodded and headed toward what he thought was the direction of the car and hoping like hell he was right. This girl needed help -fast- and if she didn't get it he and Vonnie would be in some serious trouble. It wasn't like back home he couldn't just call his mom and have her look after things he had to be a grownup, he had to take charge....he had to try not to piss his pants in fear. "I know we probably shouldn't talk about this but....what do we do if....if she doesn't make it?" he whispered quietly

Vonnie looked at Eli, opened her mouth to speak then shut her mouth again. Vonnie shook her head. "It was an accident, right? They'll see it was an accident. If we wanted to hurt her, why would we take her to a hospital? She's just in shock. We'll cover her up in your car and make sure she's warm. She'll be fine." Vonnie said softly, focusing on the ground in front of her. Her words were mostly to try and convince herself that the woman would be alright.

"Yeah but what if they don't believe that? What if we get a rookie cop whose desperate to prove themselves and they make us look guilty? We could go to jail forever..." He took a deep breath trying not to panic any more than he already was. He shook his head "No, forget it...we can't think like that..."

Vonnie looked at Eli confused. The old lady she had lived with had spent the whole 10 years they were together saying the very similar things. But the old woman had told Vonnie that if your just a little different they'll think of ways to get rid of you. Even the few memories that she had of her mother advising her to never talk to police officers. They just said they wanted to help you to get you to trust them. It was the reason Vonnie didn't talk to anyone for several years. The first two or three families were connected to police officers in one way or another. Now, just when she started to think that her mother and the old woman were wrong, Eli's words only cemented it. "We'll handle it when we get there..." Vonnie said, firmly but softly. "Right now, we need to make sure that she gets the treatment she needs. We can deal with the aftermath later."

Eli nodded and they exited the woods and found the parking lot. He made his way to the car and realized his hands were full and the keys were in his pocket. "Uhm... Did you want to grab my keys?" he asked "Left pocket of my jeans..." Usually he would make some kind of sexual reference or move toward her but right now his mind was otherwise occupied, still in panic mode about the in shock and possibly dying woman in his arms. He really wished he could call his mother right now, she always knew how to make things better, how to fix his fuck ups.

Vonnie slipped her hand into Eli's pocket and fished out the keys. At first she wanted to make a comment about pick pockets and not sure how they could manage their livelihoods, but knew this was the wrong time for it. Vonnie looked at the keys for a moment and pushed the unlock button to unlock the doors. Vonnie opened the back door for Eli. "How about if I sit back here with her... You can probably get to the hospital faster then I can."

He nodded and waited for her to scoot into the car before he gently set Erin down in the backseat. Once she was set, he moved around to the drivers side and got in, only then realizing that he didn't have his keys. "Uh Vonnie...I need my keys back..." he turned in the seat, his mind was swimming so much so that he wasn't sure if he would be okay to drive all the way to the hospital safely but he was going to do his best.

Vonnie handed Eli his keys. "Sorry..." She said. Vonnie put a hand on Eli's shoulder. "Just stay calm... Wrecking your car on the way to the hospital won't help matters. It will just make the whole situation worse." Vonnie said, trying to calm Eli down.

Eli took the keys, a deep breath and nodded. Then he faced foreword and started the car, peeling out and heading toward the hospital, unable to help himself from looking in the rearview to Vonnie and Erin. "Does she have any ID?" he asked "Do we know who she is?"

Vonnie reached into the woman's jacket and pulled out a wallet. Vonnie opened it and read the name out loud, "Erin Reinhold..." Vonnie looked at the business cards in the wallet as well. "She's a lawyer... I don't know if that's a good thing or not. We'll probably need one." Vonnie sighed and closes the wallet and put it back where she got it from. "Here's hoping for a change of venue..." Vonnie mumbled to herself.

"A lawyer?" Eli nearly choked on nothing when Vonnie spoke "Erin....oh god...I've heard of this chick she is some rich as hell only does the lawyer thing for fun werewolf with anger control issues." He glanced in the mirror again at the seemingly helpless looking woman. "Shit shit shit Vonnie...this chick is going to rip us apart and then...sue us for everything we ever owned and will own in the future...and then rip us apart again."

"If she was going to rip us a part... Why wouldn't she have done it when she was writhing in pain?" Vonnie asked. "I'm sure she'll understand it's all an accident. No one was meaning to get someone hurt." Vonnie looked down at the woman who was passed out in the back of Eli's car. Even Vonnie had heard rumors about how tough and mean she was. But, at the moment, Vonnie couldn't figure out how someone who looked so weak at that moment earn a reputation like that.

"It's hard to do much of anything when your writhing in pain..." he replied, shaking his head still terrified of what was going to come of all this. "She will heal and it won't take very long for her because she's a were and then she will come for us....I heard she was raised in an actual wolf pack...there are no accidents in a wolf pack...." he too glanced back at his subdued passenger, unable to stop the pounding in his chest. "We should just...leave her at the hospital...they will take care of her and we can...lay low for a while...sort this out come up with some sort of plan."

"Let's focus on getting her to the hospital." Vonnie said, her teeth clinched. With the way Eli was reacting, while driving she was more worried about all three of their safety. If he didn't calm down making a plan and laying low was the last of their options. "We'll get to the hospital, assess the situation and decide after that." Vonnie took a deep breath, realizing that getting angry with Eli wasn't going to help him calm down. Vonnie let the air out of her lungs. When Vonnie started to talk again her voice was softer, kinder and with less force. "It will be alright..." Vonnie reached her arm over the seat and placed her hand on Eli's shoulder.

Eli took a few calming breaths and turned his attention back to his driving, there would be no point in any of this if he crashed and killed them all. When they arrived at the hospital, he found the ER entrance and drove around to the front doors. "Well, what’s the plan?" he asked, turning back to Vonnie. "Do we take her in or just, drop her off, get someone's attention so they notice and come out or do we go in and seriously bone ourselves for life?"

"Let me do the talking..." Vonnie said. Vonnie put her sunglasses and hat back on her head. "Carry her." Vonnie exited the car and rushed into the hospital, thinking about how to word the situation that didn't put guilt on her and Eli what so ever at this point. "This woman..." She explained to the lady doing the registration. "Her name is Erin Reinhold. She's a were, possible silver poisoning..." Vonnie went on to describe how the wounds have been washed out as the woman got a wheel chair.

Eli nodded and followed her lead, putting his own cap and shades on, then pulling his hood over his head before he exited the car and went for the backseat. He leaned inside and pulled Erin into his arms, nearly jumping out of his skin when the were-lawyer groaned softly. He followed Vonnie inside, handing Erin over to a nurse who rushed up to them, and helping put her into a wheelchair.

Vonnie stayed quiet as the woman pushed Erin into the hospital without saying a word to them. Vonnie looked around at the empty waiting room, and happened to glance at the cameras. They both had their gear still on, and almost completely unidentifiable to the cameras. In a moment of stupidity Vonnie grabbed Eli's arm. "I need a cigarette..." She mumbled, walking out of the waiting room. As she fished around in her pocket she realized she still had the unexploded paintball in her pocket. Vonnie shoved it back into her pocket and pulled out her pack of cigarettes, which had been soaked by melted snow. "Do you have any dry ones?" Vonnie asked desperately squeezing the pack and letting the water drip to the ground.

Eli followed Vonnie back outside, thinking that she was hinting for them to make a break for it, he fished his keys out of his pocket and ran to the car jumping in quickly. When he realized she wasn't there next to him, he rolled down the window and looked at her with a frown. "Common Vonnie...I've got some dry ones in the car we gotta go!"

Vonnie gets into the car slowly. "Don't peel out or drive in anyway to draw attention to us." Vonnie mumbles, pointing to a police car that just happened to be sitting across the parking lot. From that distance, Vonnie couldn't tell if there was anyone in the car but there was no reason to risk it.

He nodded, casually pulling away from the curb and heading back out into the street. Once they were clear of the hospital, he reached into the small compartment below the stereo and retrieved a pack of cigarettes, taking out two and handing her one before he light his own. "Now what?" he asked, inhaling his first drag deeply praying it would calm his nerves.

Vonnie sits back and buckles her seatbelt before lighting her cigarette, thinking for a moment. "I don't know. First I would say, go home and get out of these cloths..." Vonnie mumbled. Vonnie pulled off her hat and sunglasses, tossed them on the back seat, then pulled off her gloves and tossed them with the hat and sunglasses. Vonnie realized how her reply sounded. "Get out of our clothing to change them, get new cloths on..."

Eli was so distracted and worried about what was going to happen he hadn't even thought anything dirty about what she had said, which showed just how distracted and scared he really was. He shook his head "No, they can track us there...we need to get out of doge, lay low see how big this gets, we can stop somewhere for new clothes." he sped up, puffing quickly on his cigarette which was doing absolutely nothing for his nerves at all, his hand gripping so tightly on the steering wheel his knuckles where white.

Vonnie pressed her lips together, starting to get frustrated again. "No, Eli. Running off with out a plan will tip people off and make us look guilty. Now, for the next hour or so they will be too busy dealing with her to even try to open an investigation. All they know is she has silver poisoning, beyond that they know nothing. We go home, we calm down and we make a plan. I'm not doing anything with out making sure that Scooby is taken care of first. That means we go to my apartment, get some of my things and take Scooby to your house." Vonnie paused, realizing that she was getting upset over the mention of her cat. After a second or two she calmed down. "We'll leave a note for Rachel. We can tell her we went on a road trip and that I need her to take care of Scooby for me. If we do anything else people will get worried about us, they will make police reports and they will get tipped off. Right now, no one knows who we are... The first priority is to make sure we continue to look innocent until they have a reason to THINK we're guilty."

"This town is supposed to be supernatural friendly, a were coming in with silver poisoning is going to cause a massive upset right away. They will call the elder, he will investigate the mayor and the sheriff will get involved....that's how this town works." He flicked his cigarette butt out the window and pulled out another "Call or text Rachel, she will go to your place and get Scooby just say you are going on an unplanned work trip she's really trusting she won't question it, I'm flakey as fuck they won't think anything of me being gone..."

"No!" For the first time in her memory she yelled at someone. In the 10 years she had known the old woman that raised her, she had never raised her voice not to her, not to any of her foster parents, not to anyone. Vonnie had always just closed down and accepted what she was told. "We go to my apartment. I get my cat and take her to your house. That damn cat is the only thing I have and you are NOT going to make me leave without saying good bye, if you can't agree to that then pull over right now and let me out." Vonnie folded her arms against her chest tightly, then quickly wiped away the tears that had formed in her eyes. Crying was also another first in a long time. The last time she cried was when they told her the old woman has passed away and even then it was only for a couple of minutes. Vonnie took a few seconds to calm down then quietly said to Eli. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to yell at you. I just really love my cat."

Eli sighed, knowing he wasn't going to win this argument he changed course and headed toward Vonnie's apartment. "No I get it.." he mumbled as he puffed on his second cig. "No need to be sorry....I'm sorry I'm flipping out I just know how this town reacts to shit like this, especially the sheriff seeing as how his daughter is a were..." he shook his head, trying not to think about what Sheriff Caulfield would do to them if he caught them, or how he probably wouldn't believe them that it had been an accident, even if Eli's roommate and Vonnie's best friend was a were as well.  "We have to be quick though....get Scooby, say your goodbyes quick drop off to Rachel without being suspicious...." He was focusing on the escape plan for now, letting the consequences and why they were escaping.

"Come on.. I'll need your help.. Scooby has a lot of things." Vonnie mumbled, ashamed by her actions. She rushed into her apartment and started to change out of her clothing before she even got into her bedroom. Vonnie tossed her jacket into her closet with her boots on top of it. Vonnie didn't even think about closing her door as she took off her itchy thick sweater and pulled on a thinner shirt that would be more comfortable for a road trip. Vonnie grabbed a small carry on bag and started filling it with a few needed cloths. "I have about 30 thousand in the bank..." Vonnie said as she started putting stuff the bag. "It what’s left of what I got from the old lady and what I've put into it from working."

He nodded and followed her up to her apartment, gathering the eight thousand cat things she had, finding himself a little surprised he knew she loved her cat but he hadn't realized she loved him THIS much. He hadn't even noticed Vonnie's pre room strip he just wanted to get all of this done so they could go and come up with some sort of plan, part of him really wished he was overreacting to all of this. He did look up however when he heard a meow, to see Scooby sitting on a chair staring at him, probably wondering what this strange man was doing with all of his things. "You are one spoiled lucky SOB.." Eli muttered to the car before he rose and turned his attention back to Vonnie. "We probably won't need that much, don't need to go or stay anywhere fancy actually, it's probably better if we don't."

Vonnie put her makeup and other small items in the overnight bag and zipped it shut. "I know..." Vonnie opened another dresser and pulled out the jar she kept all of her change in. It didn't hold much, maybe 200 or 300 all in 1's, fives, 10's and 20's. After grabbing her blanket she places it and the suitcase on the couch. Vonnie picked up Scooby and petted her behind the ear. "I would be happy sleeping in the car, to tell you the truth. It wouldn't be the first time." Vonnie put the jar of change on the cat's things and with Scooby in one arm and her suitcase in the other. "We have enough money to live on for a while if we're careful." She said softly as she exited the apartment.

He nodded and followed her out of the apartment with Scooby's things in a bag in his hand. "I've slept in a lot more uncomfortable places than the back of a car." he noted with another nod "Plus the seats in the car fold back, it's actually super comfortable."

Vonnie opens the back door and allows Scooby to jump in the backseat. Vonnie made sure Scooby wasn't near the door as she shuts it. "Sounds like a plan." Vonnie said. Vonnie met up with Eli at the trunk of the car to put Scooby's things and her suitcase in the trunk. "That saves what? $100 a night..."

Eli opened the trunk as Vonnie put the cat in the backseat and put the cat things inside, waiting for her to add her suitcase before he shut it. "Yeah give or take...though, if it gets too cold I may spring for a hotel room because I am not freezing off my number one assets if I don't have to..." he let a small laugh and then made his way around the car, jumping inside and starting it up, giving a glance into the back seat at the very confused looking cat as he waited for Vonnie to join him in the passenger's side.

Vonnie tossed her suitcase in the trunk and got into the passenger seat. "No... We wouldn't want that to happen, now would we?" Vonnie laughed softly for the first time in a few hours. "I'm sorry for getting you into this, by the way... I should have been more careful about what I was using." Vonnie said softly. Without warning Vonnie leaned toward Eli and kissed him. After getting him into all of this trouble that she's gotten him into, Vonnie felt it was the least she could do. Besides, maybe it would distract him enough to keep from driving like an idiot and killing the both of them or worse hurting Scooby as they got out of town.

Eli shook his head "No, we are in this together all right? Don't even start to think anything different because..." he was cut off when she kissed him, it took him completely off guard but it didn't take him all that long to recover and return the sentiment. When their lips parted, he couldn't help but grin at her with his cocky ladies man face he wasn't even aware he was making "So all it took to get you to make out with me was nearly killing someone and running away together...you really are gonna make me work to get you into bed aren't you?" he laughed

Instead of rolling her eyes like she normally would, Vonnie smiled. "Yes. Yes I am." Vonnie sit down in her seat and put her seatbelt on. "Get us out of here alive..." It wasn't a promise, but it was incentive.

He nodded again "Can do." the replied before putting on his own seatbelt and pulling out of the parking space trying not to go too fast and upset Scooby in the backseat because he knew he could take a bullet for Vonnie and she would still never sleep with him or speak to him again if he hurt one hair on that cat's head.
