searching for assistance

Cross posted at [info]stitchnbitch
I have this idea of making a doll or three. I need opinions on flesh tones for Severus and for Aurora Sinistra. I've always thought of Sinistra as looking like my icon. Those who are interested in helping out, give me recommendations of yarn colors using cascade 220, caron yarns, Bernat yarn or Berroco yarn.
I'm limiting the yarn types to ones that I either have on hand, or can easily find in my area.

Doctor Who Scarf (FO)

Finished on New Years Eve Day, it took me two weeks to get the fringe on. But a cold snap was motivation enough to get it done (seriously, we’re hitting record lows from 5 years ago according to the news reports…) not to mention my stash being out of control and the need to churn out some FOs before classes start again…

knit Hellboy

I'm slow on finding cool stuff. Hubby sent me the link to this image yesterday. I did a google search for a pattern and discovered people have been knitting Hellboy for a few years now.

here is a series of detailed photos of this commissioned bit of knitting. Hats off to the creator. I like the details she included on him.

Two Dogs Yarn Shop is now open for business. In posting the 230 products that I currently have in the store, I've discovered an allergy to angora and mohair. Some of the yarns with these fibers in them are in "kits" and marked down for quick sale.

So, what are the rest of you doing? How goes the Holiday knitting? Will you finish by your set deadlines?

Need some thoughts

I'm working on something and I need folks to take a peek and let me know if this is too preachy or if it's just right as an advert for a discussion at a local store.

Christmas At Sea

The Seaman's Church Institute sponsors an annual program called Christmas at Sea. Each year, crafts people knit or crochet hats, scarves, helmet liners, socks and gloves which are donated to this group in order to be passed out as holiday presents for seafarers/mariners around the world.

Participation Guidelines are under the link. You will find links to their patterns on that page. The patterns are pdf files. The items are easy to make.

They are way behind on donations this year. As a result, they've extended the deadline for items to arrive by the 26th of November. Please, if you have the time knit or crochet something for this or another charity. This is going to be a long cold winter, help keep someone warm.

For anyone that is interested in crafting for a cause or bidding on one of the many nice items on offer at livelongnmarry the auction will be taking place until the 15th of this month.

Look through and see what catches your fancy. The auction will raise money for the fight against the California initiative which will legally destroy existing same-sex marriages and ban any further ones. If the initiative passes, it will write discrimination into the state constitution, annull existing marriages, and make Mr. Sulu cry.

Let me introduce myself

(I'm always terrible at intro-posts, but I'll try). Well I'm a 20-year old German student who loves to knit in front of the TV while watching her favourite Shows ore movies ;) if I don't have knitting-needles in my hand it's usually a book.
I'm into *takes a deep breath*
Criminal Minds, NCIS, Numb3rs, Bones, Dexter, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Discworld and -well- fantasy- and crime-books generally.
Till now I haven't knit something fandom-inspired, but I'm thinking about it for a while (and I really want to by Charmed Knits someday ^^).
Oh, and on ravelry you can find me as Aoife812

Groups of interest on Ravelry?

I actually broke down and joined Ravelry. My invite came today and I've been poking around putting off dealing with itemizing the stash and working out the FOs and project queues.

Anyone else here on Ravelry? Any fandom related groups there I should look at? Friend me? I'm Tephra there too

Jayne Hat

Hey fandom knitters, check out what I finished last night instead of working on my last final...

IMG_2078

I used a pattern from somewhere, can't remember which one, and double-stranded LionBrand Wool on 10.5s. I think I'll use 11s next time though, the hat was a bit snug on me and I'm HOPING that it'll fit my friend whom I'm gifting it to (if not, I'll have to make him another and give this one to someone with a smaller head, hehe.)

Ribbit?

OK, I need to ask for some advice. I'm working on this cardigan. I'm on the 3rd re-knit of the front panels and finally have shaped them like I want -- the pattern called for this funky fold-back that made the front seams bunch up awkwardly. I've done away with the triangular tip and now it just scoops down, more curvy. I like it much better.

The thing I do not like is the length. It's hitting right below my belly, and I think it'd look much better if it went down another inch or two.

So my questions is: Is there any way to "add on" length that won't look dumb, or am I resigned to ripping it all out again. (If ripping's the best way then I'll do that, but I just don't want to miss any possible alternatives.)
