FAQ
Q: Does my Character have to be a Witness?
A: We require that your first two characters be witnesses, or someone related in the protection program as well. This is primarily because we cannot have an overflow of characters who aren't in the program. Your third and fourth character may be outside the program (we may require them to have knowledge of it or someone, though. We'll figure it out once we've reached that bump in the road).
Q: Who's Playing the Unnamed Agent?
A: Good Question. I'm glad you asked. No single person is playing the agent. The character will have a profile, but will only be used to spur the plot. The Moderators have joint custody over the agent and will only use him/her when it is absolutely necessary.
Q: May I have a Character who is in The FBI?
A: That's a tricky one. I'm going to say no for now. If you want your character to have authority, they may be a police officer, detective, or CSI. That way, they can have hands-on interaction with dead witnesses.
Q: Can my Character be a Killer?
A: There is a bit of controversy over this one. We aren't sure if the killer of the witness is one man, one woman, a group of people working together, or a lot of people who want revenge. You may have a homicidal character if you wish, we only ask that you don't take it upon yourself to make them the MAIN MASS murderer. We might also drop in from time to time to see that you're not screwing things up. ;P
Q: Can my Character be a Complete Idiot and Shine in Publicity and Spot Lights?
A: Absolutely! These people know they are being hunted, they know people want them dead, and they know that the FBI won't get involved no matter what they do andno matter who is trying to kill them. If you want your guy or gal acting in theatre, making the front page of the newspaper for punching their boss or becoming an Anchor Man for the Ten O'Clock news, go right ahead. We're interested to see characters like this.
Q: Erm, I wanted to kill off my character, but they are my only one and I want to stay in the game. What do I do?
A: By all means, kill them. Remember, you are allowed to have up to four characters. Just apply for another character and have fun plotting the other's demise.
Q: Agh! Everyone is playing a tortured soul! I don't want to have a cookie-cutter character. What do I do?
A: Everyone handles situations differently. We could understand completely if your character thinks this entire thing is a joke, if they go out and party every night, or if they actually have a sense of humor. They aren't dead yet, they don't have to act like they are. Remember, your character didn't have to witness a murder. They don't have to be a saint. And they certainly don't have to be the witness. They could be the son/daughter/wife/girlfriend of the witness who got yanked along on the ride.
Q: Does my Character have to live in New York City?
A: Yes. It's a big place. You'll be fine.
Q: So, I want my Character to be Stalked, but there isn't anyone playing a bad guy who will do it. What do I do?
A: The mods have anticipated this. There will be a NPC or two who can do some stalking and freaking out. If you want interaction, and don't want to deal with an NPC, we have a character want-ad area. Ask us, we'll put up an ad. You will have your stalker, one way or another. Do not worry.
Q: Does my Character have to have a PB?
A: Yes.
Q: Oh, well then does my PB have to be an actor?
A: Of course not. But, as icons are the essence of the journals, we hope that you would pick someone with a lot of pretty pictures.
Q: I speak English, not Computer Geek, how do I imbed icons?
A: Simple, just use this code:
<table border="0" cellpadding="4"><tr><td valign="top" align="left"><img src="ICON LINK GOES HERE"></td><td valign="top" align="left">CONTENT GOES HERE</td></tr></table>
Q: How do these people actually contact each other?
A: Good question. The unnamed agent created a secure, Internet community. Secure is bold because we don't plan on having the bad guys breach it. The unnamed agent has made contact with each of the characters who are witnesses and has informed them of their situation and given them the link. It is up to you if you want your witness to trust the community.
Q: So, So-and-So just totally left the game, and their characters were a huge part of my plot. What do I do?
A: Ouch. We've all had that happen to us. Don't freak out. Someone else will come along who would be happy to plot with you. There will be Story-Line Want Ads as well.
Q: Do all the Witnesses have to Help each other?
A: Certainly not. Witnesses aren't always good people. There could be some who sell others out, who leak positions. Witnesses can hate each other.
Q: Can my Witness be a bad guy?
A: Sure thing. We don't want twelve drug lords, though. So, be creative.
Q: So, if the game is slow, and danger isn't lurking around every corner, what do we do?
A: Don't be afraid to make danger. We like that. But don't also be too good to write threads about daily things. The comm allows romantic involvement, friendships, and humorous posts. It's not just about drama and suspense. Your characters are allowed to relax as well.
