Five years after the demon nine-tailed fox wrecked havoc on Konohagakure and was sealed inside the infant son of the Fourth Hokage, two years before the Uchiha Massacre, the village is rebuilding and growing again. The Sandaime Hokage is alive and well; Konohagakure is recovering from a long brutal war, the Kyuubi onslaught of five years ago, and the loss of the Yondaime; and the elite ninja of the future are the rising stars of today. This is Fallen Leaves, a story of the young people of Konoha past and the experiences that will shape their lives as part of the dark, unsavory Special Forces known as ANBU.
Warning: This is a mature collaborative writing community. This story contains sexual content, harsh language, emotional and psychological issues, violence, gore, and all around creepy-ass disturbing shit; you name it, it might appear in Fallen Leaves, so if you're squeamish or have moral concerns, please turn back now. This is a universe where things like little boys killing hundreds of their peers in cold blood are known to happen, and we are here to explore the reality of such a world. The Naruto world is not all goodness, light, and happy 12-year-old Genin, and the ANBU know it better than anyone.
Fallen Leaves is aimed at readers and players of age 18 and above.
The story of Fallen Leaves centers around Konoha's Special Assassination and Tactical Squad, ANBU -- its people, its premises, and its missions. ANBU are the bogeymen of Konoha, the 'spooks' who perform the dirtiest jobs that no one wants to touch but that nonetheless need to be done. The people of Konohagakure both admire and fear their mysterious protectors; it's no surprise that, when appearing in uniform, they get as many terrified glances as they do smiles and waves. Even more than most shinobi they spend their time hidden in the shadows; and though the job pays well, few ANBU members last more than a few years under the onslaught of the sorts of missions they are asked to perform. The high turnover rate means that the Squad frequently needs new blood -- ANBU is, in a way, a cross-section of the young and the restless in Konoha's current generation.
Hunters—Field Ops These are combat-oriented agents who perform assassinations, thefts, sabotage, tracking/retrieval and protection missions. From their ranks are chosen the elite guards responsible for protecting the Konoha home front, the Hokage's person, and select other VIPs. Hunters are the busiest members of ANBU and make up the bulk of its ranks.
Intel—Field Ops The cloaks of the cloak and dagger squad are responsible for spying, surveillance, infiltration, and other methods of information-gathering.
Intel—Internal Ops These agents are the unsung heroes of ANBU. They are responsible for mission planning and control, codes and ciphers, maps, forgeries and documents, and all the other details that make it possible for the field agents to do their work.
Torture and Interrogation The bogeymen of ANBU--the creepy people in the subbasement. They are responsible for information extraction from captured targets.
ANBU generally receive two types of missions: Missions pertaining to the safety and security of Konohagakure and Fire Country, assigned by the Hokage and the Village Council; and missions for hire from Konoha's customers which are of either such a gruesome, unsavory nature that ordinary Chuunin and Jounin would turn them down, or are of such high risk or importance that ANBU are required for their reputation as the elite of the elite.
Agents are assigned missions by the Mission Desk (aka fallen_mods). Characters on a mission may continue posting in threads taking place chronologically before the mission, but should avoid starting or participating in threads taking place chronologically afterward until the mission is finished. Players are highly encouraged to Suggest a mission or characters they would like to work with for their next job; the Mission Desk can also make assignments independently. ANBU members may petition not to run any mission, but part of the pathos of ANBU is the nature of the tasks its members must carry out, so it would be advisable to keep such petitioning to a minimum. Too much IC refusal of orders may also have IC disciplinary consequences.
The ANBU Compound (HQ Map)
ANBU, isolated from the regular Konoha ranks and civilians alike, is nearly a world unto itself; this is reflected by the all-encompassing nature of the ANBU compound, a three-story building on the far side of the Hokage's administrative offices that extends some unknown depth underground.
