Off Hours [Closed to Ryuichi and Kotetsu]
Kotetsu prodded the door open; he thought he heard someone in here. Decimating straw dummies. Which sounded like fun, and maybe he could learn something, if not get said someone to spar. He felt full of energy, and remembering Zombie-man's fighting style and weaponry made him gleeful.

So he was feeling bouncy. Won't be having missions for a bit, he was all revved up, is all.

"... oh hey!" It was Zombie-man! Well, Ryuichi, but the nick-name fitted. And every time he called him that Ryuichi would look at him. It was hilarious. "You're here! And okay! We should spar."

Ryuichi blinked at the voice, and killed another dummy before spinning on his heel to face the speaker. Speak of the devil. Kotetsu, and his hair was still as spiky as ever.

He twirled the katana once, and shook some stuffing out of his hair. It almost made him sneeze. Straw was annoying like that. "Hello, Kotetsu-san." Ryuichi was defiantly more polite when he wasn't pissed off or suffering from blood-loss. Or a combination of the two. Some might say he was downright rude then. Of course, most people who didn't know him that well said he was rude all the time, no matter the circumstances. Imagine that.

A spar against something that could fight back would be fun. The dummies just stood there and let themselves be murdered. Not much fun, after you'd been at it for a while. Another shinobi was definitely more interesting. And this time, Ryuichi wasn't hurt. He wouldn't loose.

Ryuichi grinned, and it was somehow both happy and slightly sinister. "Fine by me."

If he hadn't been smiling, the statement might have been considered hostile. Ryuichi's scowl was tight as ever, but his eyes were sincere. He meant it, and not in anything but good fun.

He took a quick inventory of his weapons. Kunai, shuriken, and senbon in his belt pouch, plus the knives under his arm-guards and strapped to his boots. One katana, one hatchet, and a moon-shaped blade one of his cousins had sent him as a gift. Ryuichi hadn't practiced with it much, but it had proven effective for slitting throats. He also suspected it would be good for throwing.

Well, no time like the present for testing such things out!

Kotetsu grinned at him, sizing up his arsenal. Woo, huge sharp things, with quite a bit of range and reach. Definitely something that called for his kunai, since normal kunai and senbon wouldn't - heh - cut it. He could do wires too, he supposed, but the last time he'd done that in a sparring room, he got reprimanded for destroying it all.

Nearly got banned from using indoor training rooms, that time. He had no intention of being so wantonly destructive again.

He pulled a kunai - his right handed one, mmm - and crouched, just a little. "Ready?"

Ryuich was already moving and didn't bother responding. Darting in low to the ground, and then snapping into a back-flip at the last second, constantly shifting the range. At the moment, it would be better for Kotetsu to attack first, and then launch a counter attack. Then they'd proceed from there.

If the deciding factor would be speed, then Ryuichi would leave nothing to chance. He was moving constantly, weaving side-to-side, and looking for his opportunity, the hole in Kotetsu's defense. There would be one; there always was. He didn't plan on stopping unless something made him.

Right. Testing, huh? Zombie-man wasn't fast-fast, but he was nimble, and didn't stay still. Very much like Kotetsu's strategy when he was in the trees. Made him unpredictable, and with those swinging weapons, deadly.

Kotetsu merely skipped back a step, two, when Ryuichi nipped in. He was gonna make him attack first, wasn't he? Then he'd gauge Kotetsu's weaknesses from there. Was he a sparring expert or a weaponry expert? because one meant he'd gauge Kotetsu's fighting style, the other his prowess with the weapon.

Actually, either way was going to be fun.

Just as Zombie-man feinted to the left, Kotetsu darted in, his kunai held to the side to defend his forearm - and most of his chest, this rocked - and land a kick to the guy's knee.

Ryuichi saw the kick coming, and was already rolling when it stuck him. He went down hard, but his legs absorbed most of the impact, sparing a little for his hips. It didn't hurt (though it would later, when the adrenaline wore off), and he swung the hatchet first, and then the katana, thinking to confuse Kotetsu by striking him with weapons that had two different ranges; one close, one a little further. If he dodged one, the other would catch him across the ankles.

That was the idea, anyways.

So weird to fight a guy with two drastically different weapons. He blocked the katana with his kunai, shoving it aside hard, just about managing to stomp on the flat of the hatchet's head and leap up. Yow, that was close, because his sandals nearly slipped, woulda got his ankle shredded if his timing was just a little off.

But he managed, and he slammed into Zombie-man, knees first. Cause he was just that cool.

Oh hell no!

Not only had Kotetsu managed to dodge both the katana and the hatchet, though the latter was a close thing, almost had him down for the count and bleeding out, but no, and Ryuichi found himself pinned. Momentarily, he's pretty sure, but still flat on his back with an opponent on top of him, which never ends well. He'd seen enough throats slit to know the drill, and the fact that unless he moves damn fast, he's going to lose again.

Ryuichi glared, swore under his breath, and didn't notice how shaky it came out because he was bringing the hatchet up and angling it at Kotetsu's throat. A hard kick to the chest got him enough leverage to shove him off, even before the strike would land, guaranteeing Ryuichi enough space to jump back.

Never commit yourself to a single move. Be ready in case it fails with a second and a third.

"Yeah, I know that." Kotetsu tried to move his arm. Ow. That hurt. A lot. Okay, left arm was a goner, and no way was he moving that unless he was going to get something chopped off.

Maybe he'll just yank it out? Or just...

And then Ryuichi was moving in, circling like a shark. Kotetsu took a breath, waited for him to get in range. He'd stand and block for now, and see how it goes.

Ryuichi shrugged, not really concerned with Kotetsu's injury. If the guy wanted to keep on fighting, that was his decision, and Ryuichi would most defiantly support it. More fun for him, at any rate.

The moon-blade was twirled. It could be thrown, but now it was being used to distract. The dancing steel caught the eyes and then the attention, and if it wasn't full, that was fine. A bit was enough to gain an advantage. It didn't take much to get someone off-balance so you could kill them.

Fighting Kotetsu was fun. It made him think more than he usually did. Come up with strategy more complex than "run in slashing and don't stop until the other guy isn't moving". Kaede-sensei would have been proud.

The katana came in next, aiming to slap at the back of Kotetsu's head. Ryuichi decided that it wasn't worth cleaning up the mess and angled it so the flat would strike instead of the sharp edge. It would still hurt like a bitch, but wasn't fatal. Unlike most of his attacks seemed to end up being.

Kotetsu ducked. He knew blades, and he knew two-handed weapons. He'd done butterfly swords before. Wasn't an expert, but he knew the principles, and he wasn't going to sit here and get diced because of a pretty shiny distraction.

The blade passed over his head, and he shoved his kunai up and in. Not aiming to gut the Zombie, obviously.

His kunai caught and tangled with the silvery moon-blade, and Kotetsu twisted, shoving as hard as he could, and pushing in at Ryuichi.

Ryuichi snarled, and bared his teeth for a moment. His katana had been deflected, but not enough. He shoved down on the kunai, and then reversed the direction, coming in for Kotetsu's face. No more playing nice; the edge was coming in for a (probably deep) cut, and Ryuichi no longer gave a shit.

Then he kicked Kotetsu in the chest, about as hard as he could without getting off-balance. The bastard was going to stay down once Ryuichi got him there.

Ow fuck. With only one hand working, Ryuichi could easily overpower Kotetsu's kunai, and he stumbled back, hissing as he got kicked, in the chest, and nearly got slashed in the face.

Fuck!

Kotetsu dropped back, and to hell with anyone who objected to kunai-in-the-floor, because that was just what he was going to do.

The wood of the sparring floor protested the treatment, harsh blade slamming into the wood and splintering it, whining at the weight as Kotetsu threw himself in a roll that was more force than grace, and kicked back, hard, against Ryuichi's knee. Attack the joints, and hope he didn't try to slice out his ass.

Ryuichi swore, voice both quiet and terribly hysterical, and was knocked backwards. He snapped into a roll at the last second, regaining his balance crouched on his knees. This was fun! Kotetsu was the best sparring partner he'd had in a while. Even Kaede-sensei hadn't been this fun; she always smacked him with her blades.

His knees didn't hurt, not yet, at least. Ryuichi always had had a problem with letting the adrenaline get to him. Made his mind work in strange ways, think about stuff he shouldn't, and defiantly wouldn't when he wasn't moving with homicidal intent. No, it would wait until after the fight was after, and probably drive him to his stash of booze. Best painkiller there was, though it sucked to depend on it so much. Fuck.

Kotetsu was down on the floor, but wouldn't stay there unless something was done. Ryuichi lunged, and then, in a moment where his smile was more in good fun than murderous, sat on him, knees on his arms. One of the Intel girls had shown him that move. She'd said it worked well. Here was to hoping it would. Kotetsu still had weapons on him, though Ryuichi's katana was angled at his throat. He'd try to use them, in all likely-hood.

"Then I'm the first. Off, now, 'fore I start taking your hand off with 'm wire."

Ryuichi's weight was heavy, but Kotetsu had a good grip on the wire, and the wire on Ryuichi's arm.

It was, to Kotetsu's mind, a standstill; someone was going to have to give.

"No." And that would always be his answer. Ryuichi was one of those rare individuals who would never change their answer no matter how many times they were asked the question, or how many different variations of it were offered. Kotetsu could keep it up all day (or at least until he passed out), and Ryuichi would stubbornly say the exact same answer each time. No. Give me back my damn hatchet.

"Fine." His fingers weren't that cut up. He twitched his wrist, dropping the loops of wire down to where the gloves covered his knuckles, sacrificing manoeuvrability for less ow, and yanked. Hard.

The wires tightened around Ryuichi's forearm, and made that noise again, this time starting to cut into Ryuichi's arm just where the armour didn't cover.

Was that meant to accomplish anything? Ryuichi thought it was a rather stupid move, personally. He shifted the knife so that the edge was in a position to cut, and deeply so. "That is stupid." He ignored the wires, even though he was starting to bleed.

Shiiiit, this man was definitely a zombie. Totally; didn't he even notice that he was getting cut up? Kotetsu's head tilted back as far as it could go, and he couldn't quite surpress the whine.

"Never said I was clever." Right. Wires were out, he'd waited too long to use them. "Fine, I'm giving up. See? Giving up. Please get off. I even said please!"

Ryuichi rolled off him in a single, fluid move, still gripping both his weapons. The moon-blade was twirled once, and the hand holding the katana twitched slightly. Kotetsu would be giving it back, once the medic pulled the weapon out of him. Ryuichi didn't share his things.

"I'll take you to the medic," he said shortly.

"You can cook?" Kotetsu was very distracted from the ow of meeting the floor. "No clue about cafeteria food - 'm banned since the pudding incident."

The medic didn't have nice hands. Kotetsu made a face at him, and shoved down the pain in favour of telling Ryuichi how the pudding'd blown up, but it seriously wasn't his fault, honestly.

Ryuichi raised an eyebrow at the word "pudding", and blinked as Kotetsu began detailing the incident. Oh my. "Yeah, I can cook." Well enough, for a guy, Ise-chan had always said. She couldn't cook for shit, blew stuff up all the time. He didn't like having to clean up after her. She managed to get stuff on the ceiling every single time. There was still beer all over his old appartment from an incident Ryuichi didn't want to relive. Ever. As long as he lived.

The medic was staring at them. Ryuichi glared, and the guy blinked. Nerves. Not used to dealing with pissed-off agents, it appeared. "That's mine," he said, gesturing at the hatchet. "I want it back."

Thanks -- and the second was even cause we sparred AND you lost my trigger. But that's okay cause we'd spar again. The hatchet you still owe me." Kotetsu didn't particularly want a hatchet, not really, but seeing that Ryuichi so stubbornly refused to let it go, he was going to keep prodding at the issue till Ryuichi gave up, blew up, or killed him.

Preferably not the last one.

Ryuichi was going to strangle him. Or otherwise incapacitate his voice-box. Anything to make him shut up. Gods, would he just give it a rest already? Ryuichi wasn't going to give up the damn hatchet, no matter how much Kotetsu seemed to want it. Did he even know how it worked? He didn't think so, otherwise he would have dodged better.

Fingers twitching, he glared. And the medic gave him a look that said, "I know exactly what you're thinking about doing, and you better damn not put it into action, buster." Ryuichi glared harder. He didn't say anything for a minute. If he had, it would have been extremely rude.
