Who: Halden, Jason, and Caleb
What: Talking after the Kat/Halden break up
Where: By the creek/ Caleb's work place
When: Saturday the 6th of September after Halden has had time to fester
Status: incomplete
Rating: TBD

Halden was completely pissed at himself for breaking up with Kat very rashly but he knew it had to be done and he knew he had hurt Kat. In order to get his frustration out Halden decided to take a tennis ball and his racket and volley against himself till he was completely out of energy. Doing this usually took his mind off of things like how much of a jackass he thought he was or what happened with Jason in the other room the night before.

Halden had finally wore himself out to the point where he could barely walk and he decided to hunt down Jason. He checked Jason's room and knocked on the door he wasn't there.

Halden took out his phone and texted Jason Where are you? I pretty sure I need to talk

Jason had taken to sitting near the river drawing on the days when Caleb worked and he didn't. Since the growing season was over, the nursery had been very slow of late, and his hours were cut way back.

He was a little surprised when his phone beeped at him. The only one who ever called or texted him was Caleb, and he was at work - or should be, anyway.

When Halden's number came up, Jason was more than a little curious.

Down near the creek in the forest. Drawing. What's up?

Halden sighed and texted back. I broke up with Kat on Thursday and still feel like a jackass for just blind sighting her with it and... I could just really use someone to talk to...

Oh... that was not good. Well, not particularly bad either...

Painful to be sure. Halden must feel horrible after doing a thing like that. Why, if he ever broke up with Caleb - or the other way around - both of them would likely be in a world of hurt.

Come on out here. Do you want me to meet you by the forest edge?

Something niggled at the back of Jason's mind, thinking that there could be something wrong with this situation. Still, a friend in need, and all, right?

Halden began walking over to the forests edge from the tennis courts as he texted back still pretty upset. Yea that would be good I'll probably get lost.

Halden arrived at the edge of the forest pretty quickly and saw Jason there waiting. Halden was sure he looked like a mess. His shirt was off after a couple of hours of tennis, his hair all messy, sweating like crazy, and racket in hand which all together probably made Halden look like a psycho but he didn't care at the moment he just need to vent and he only trusted Jason.

As he arrived he sort of smiled but he was a bit to hurt to make it a full smile, "Hey... sorry to interrupt your drawing."

"No, that's okay. Come on, I'll show you where I'm set up."

Jason led Halden back to where the creek ran down through the forest. It took a little while to get there, but once they got to the banks, there was a nice log and several boulders to sit on. "You look like shit. I mean, like... yeah."

He motioned for Halden to sit on one of the rocks. "It was that bad?"

Halden nodded quite worn out from all the practice. He sat with his back on a boulder and his ankles crossed, "Well lets see we went to that 'book club' meeting and i couldn't stand it any more so I went to run off to the music room ya know bury myself in my practice. She caught up and I told her I couldn't do it any more I couldn't keep this relationship up. She thought I was already seeing someone else," at his he blushed slightly cuz he was sort of emotionally with someone else, "I said no there wasn't a someone else I'm not cheating on you so on and so forth then we had a spat on line and I went and buried myself in tennis to forget about it which didn't work and now I'm here."

Halden took a deep breath after his tirade, and wiped the sweat off of his chest with the shirt in his back pocket.

"Jeez. That sucks," Jason said, setting his things aside. "And you weren't even cheating on her and she didn't believe you? Dude. That really sucks."

Halden was obviously overheating. Jason took his shirt away from him and went and dipped it in the water from the creek, then tossed it back to him. "Here. wipe yourself off with that," he said.

"So, um, do you regret it? I mean, do you wish you hadn't broken it off with her?"

Halden took his creek and sweat soaked shirt and whipped off some more sweat leaving creek water on his upper body as Jason instructed, "No I don't regret it. Not at all I wouldn't want to just have things not work out and people get hurt even more than they have to."

"Yeah, that's the part that sucks. I'd hate to have to do it, myself. I mean, you know the person's gonna be all upset."

For the most part, Jason tried not to hurt anyone. He really liked his friends here, and went to extra care to make sure they were alright.

"So, she's still mad at you? I mean, I can see how she'd be mad, but if it wasn't gonna work out, it wasn't gonna work out. I think it's better that you ended it not and didn't let it go on longer."

Jason could tell Halden was a little uncomfortable with this. "Come on, it'll be fun," Jason said, nudging his friend with his elbow. We'll just stop in and say hi, get a drink, and then go down to the used CD store."

First, Jason led Halden back toward his dorm, though. "I'm just gonna drop my stuff off, hop in the shower and change quick before we go. Do you want to get a clean shirt? I could let you borrow one if you don't want to go back to your dorm first."

Halden wasn't exactly too smiley right now. He followed Jason back to his dorm, "I guess." Tagging along and being the third wheel didn't exactly seem too pleasurable to him at all.

Halden blinked at Jason for a second comprehending what he said, "I'll just borrow one of yours if that's ok," He took a second and sniffed and made a disgusted look, "Do you have anything to musk my insane b/o?"

"Soap," Jason offered. They had community showers in the dorms, so he was used to showering with all of the other guys. Sure, it would be a little awkward with Halden there, but as long as they were in separate stalls, and they didn't actually look at each other, things would be fine.

"A Shower will prolly feel good, especially with all that tennis and stuff."

Halden blushed slightly, "Ya don't think that would be.. I don't know awkward... embarrassing..." Halden had run out of adjectives to describe the many ways that this wouldn't be wise at all.

"What? Oh, nah. I mean, we're both used to the community showers, right? We've gotta use them in Gym class all the time."

Jason took out his key and opened the door to his room. Tossing his stuff on the bed, he went into his dresser and pulled out two T-shirts, a clean pair of shorts and jeans for himself, and two towels. He had a bag of his shower stuff hanging by the door.

"We'll just be in stalls next to each other, and I'll put the shampoo and stuff on that wall between them." He tossed one of the T-shirts to Halden.

Halden caught the shirt and followed Jason after him. This was completely going to be embarrassing no matter what Jason said. As he followed he could feel all the blood rushing to his cheeks this was going to be so awkward.

When they got into the shower room, Jason turned to Halden. The guy looked really uncomfortable.

"Do you want to wait for me? We can take turns, instead."

Jason held up his key. "You can hang out in my room until I'm done if you like, and then I'll just do some homework or something while you shower."

Halden wasn't exactly sure what choice he could pick. He could take the shower with Jason and get a peak at what he looked like where Jason could do the same or look like a loser and sit in the room and take turns, "Nah... I'm sure I'll be fine." I hope he added mentally.

Halden shook his head, "Nah I'll be fine." He followed Jason into the store as they headed over to the medicine section for Jason's allergy stuff anyways.

"What are you allergic to?" He thought if he was ever planning on or even remotely hoping of being with Jason, which seemed doubtful with the way his relationship with Caleb was looking he should know.

"Almost everything," Jason said, pulling a box of antihistamines off of the shelf. "Pollen, bee stings, grass, mold, rodents... you name it."

After getting his medicine, Jason wandered over to the aisle with the drinks and snacks. "Smart marketing this, don't you think? Put the sodas next to the salty snacks?"

He grabbed a case of Coke and went on down to the crackers. Grabbing two boxes of cheese crackers, he looked down to where the granola bars were.

"Did you know that all of last year, I had $5 a week to spend on things I needed? 'Cause that's all my parents would give me. Miss Heart, Mr. Dixon and Mr. Thibaud would give me extra jobs to do so I could earn some money. All that time, I'd buy one box of granola bars for the week."

He went down and picked up a box of the Honey and Oat crunchy granola bars and showed it to Halden. "These things. My emergency food supply for if I missed a meal 'cause I had to do things for David - my jerk of an old roommate - or something."

Halden chuckled, "Alright I'll be careful then." He didn't really care about the marketing of soda and chips, but he smiled and nodded to show Jason he was listening.

"Really? At least you've got the teachers looking out for your back. Sounds like you've got through a bunch of shit yourself. Did that roommate graduate or stay back a grade?" He couldn't believe what this guy did to Jason it seemed horrible.

"They were great. Really, I don't know what would have happened if they hadn't helped me out. Oh, and Caleb, Scott, Gabe and JJ, too. When all of that crap with David was going on, they all stood up for me."

For a moment, Jason wondered if that was part of what sparked interest in Caleb for him. The fact that the guy tried to protect him and all.

"Anyway, If it weren't for them, I don't think I could even talk to you. And now," Jason was a little surprised at his own realization, "I feel like I can really talk to you."

More than almost anyone else.

Jason swallowed hard and headed up toward the registers.

He listened to Jason tell the story about his old jackass roommate, "At least there was someone who was willing to stand up for you in your time of need."

As they headed towards the registers Halden didn't feel like continuing the rest of this conversation where someone besides Jason could hear so he got a little closer and whispered in his ear, "I know. I don't think i could talk to anyone else." He pulled away from Jason's ear because he didn't want to lead Jason on. Halden heard the hard swallow and put his hand on his shoulder for a few seconds to comfort him.

It didn't take long to get to the theater from there. Of course, Jason had walked along that road so many times by now, he could practically do it blindfolded. Not to mention the fact that it was just a few blocks away from his work.

When they got there, Jason waved to the gal at the ticket booth and headed right on inside.

"Caleb!" he called out, smiling at that handsome guy in the vest. Caleb was taking tickets today, so he didn't have to try to talk his way into the place this time.

Not that he had to anyway, since everyone there knew who he was by now.

Caleb quickly tucked the nachos he was sharing with the nearby food vender, Brenda, He stood up and stretched out his arms.

"Hey sugar!" He pulled Jason into a quick hug before stepping back, he wasn't allowed to show too much affection while on the job. He turned slightly towards the blond boy. "Halden."

He instantly turned back to Jason, "So whatchu doing here?"

He tried not to be too jealous that while he had the most boring job at the cinema, getting fat on delicious nachos, Halden was out and about with his boyfriend.

At least he didn't feel like punching Halden.

Halden suppressed the snarl he felt as Jason and Caleb hugged Jason whom he was definitely feeling possessive over by now, but Halden was a self proclaimed master of being two faced when he needed to be.

He put on a cheesy happy smile, "Hello Caleb." Although Caleb may not have felt like punching Halden at the very moment, it was quite opposite with Halden who was most definitely jealous of the one who got to 'claim' Jason.
