Penny returned her sister's smile warmly, though she could see even that simple gesture was distracted; clearly Gen's mind was elsewhere. Lucky didn't seem to mind, though, and he wagged his tail as eagerly as he ever did. Though reserved with strangers, Lucky happily greeted Genevieve as family, which was just how Penny would have it. She would hope that Lucky would protect Genevieve as well as herself should the need arise, however much she hoped the need never did arise.
Waving off Genevieve's apology, Penny fell into step with her sister. "I was enjoying some quiet time," she replied with a slight smile. "It is lovely today, isn't it?" Perhaps it was silly to begin by speaking of such trivial things but Penny was unfailingly polite and it seemed rude to just delve right into serious matters without any sort of introduction. There was plenty of time for that and it might be that Gen would bring up what was on her mind without any prompting from Penny now that they were alone together.
