Penny felt a touch of remorse at the tone she hadn't quite intended to take when she spoke of Julius. It wasn't that she intended to offend but rather, she had been caught entirely off-guard and, in retrospect, her reaction hardly seemed charitable. She managed a chastened blush at Genevieve's expression, her gaze averting slightly to the floor as Gen sighed and launched her explanation.
As she spoke to her, Penny lifted her eyes once more, watching Genevieve as she spoke, noticing the way she clung to the book, the way her eyes fell to the ground, the way her lips curved into a slight smile of remembrance. Penny couldn't ever remember seeing her sister quite like this before and it was intriguing, if a little unsettling.
"I understand that he's your friend," Penny finally managed, though the word sounded foreign on her tongue, reminding her of the fact that she couldn't come up with a single friend other than her sister and her dog. The thought hadn't exactly bothered her before but now that she knew her sister had a best friend (one that she was kissing no less!) only made her aware of the differences between them. "All the same, do you think it's... wise?"
It seemed a silly question once it was asked; of course Gen hadn't thought about the wisdom of her actions. Genevieve was a creature of passion and impulse, much unlike her hesitant, careful twin. Still, it was Penny's nature to ask, even though her curiosity begged questions of another nature.
