They'd celebrated their five month anniversary- but then, going home to Gen every night was celebration enough for Julius, as cliched as that might have sounded.
There were two pregnant mares this winter, and even though they still had a good four or five months (out of eleven) before foaling, Julius kept a careful eye on them. Foaling season was his favorite time of the year, admittedly, and he had to be sure that the mares were well-cared for beforehand.
He didn't know that Gen was coming to visit, but her presence when she entered the barn was unmistakable. Julius quickly doused the hot metal he was working with in a barrel of water, taking off his gloves and setting them aside. "Gen? What's going on?"
