"They aren't alone?" The question was whispered in a tone of wonder, meant more for herself than for Emi. Part of her ached so fiercely for that. She had been so bitterly alone, even when she had lived with her mother.
Such a notion blocked out even the intrigue of choosing a mate based on affection. Her mother had liked her father - sort of. As much as needed, anyway. It wasn't something Era had given much thought to. But alone was something she was all too familiar with.
She looked back up at Emi, "But what do they do with all that time together?"
