It had been too long since someone had called her 'little one.' At the time she had hated it. It was a common insult to hurl at the runt of the family, when anyone was around to say it. But now - there was no malice to it, and it was so very familiar. That and the tone provoked immediate obedience from Era. She couldn't relax entirely, but she tried. Or she would have had the woman's next action not sent her mind skittering for answers.
Era tilted her head. Her gaze moved from tree to woman and back a half dozen times. Era was young, but she wasn't stupid. She knew dragon magic when it was performed in front of her. Neither drawing back, nor pushing forward, Era blankly asked, "How do you do that?" She didn't mean the fire. "How is it you look human? Who are you?" Terror and curiosity warred within her.
