Hiding behind a big tree, the silhouette of a man stood out from the whiteness of the snow. He held in his hands a long bow, as long as an eagle's wingspan, his best steel arrow poised and ready by the string. Edric murmured a silent prayer, hoping it will help him in his hunt for dragon scales.
It was winter, and the snow softened his steps as he crouched low. He did not like hunting in winter; it was cold, most game were hibernating or had migrated to the south. But more importantly, Edric and his messy head of brown curls stood out like a bleeding thumb. Hence, he had donned a white cape over his clothes, trying to disguise himself.
The dragon was a magnificent sight to behold, Edric was lucky to have been near when he heard the unmistakable sound of a giant beast landing. Edric knew that there was no possible way he could kill it, not even a knight of the kingdom could have taken down such a dragon alone. But even so, if he could somehow dislodge a few scales off of its body, it would be more than profitable. Dragon scales were rare and rumored to have mysterious properties. The scales would have been priceless just for its beauty.
Edric took a peek and tred silently to hide amid a slightly big bush that was more snow than leaf. Taking careful aim at the dragon, he eyed his quarry and fired a volley of shots.
