When Rena asked for help, Molly turned immediately to her. “Okay.” She stood up.
“There are about a hundred different ways we could go about this. And I can tell you now, in the moment, all of them are going to seem wrong. You’re scared. Water can be scary.” Molly tried to acknowledge the logic in that. “It’s lot of other things too. Good things. I’ll show you if you let me.” She gave the taller woman an appraising look. “You want to overcome your fear. That’s noble. I honestly don’t think I could be as brave.”
She looked back at the pond. “It’s a gorgeous day. And I want to go swimming. Have you ever seen anyone swim properly?” Curious, she considered it. If Rena didn’t know what swimming looked like, it would be incredibly difficult to imagine it as safe.
