Victoria Island, BC
Weather: Yesterday's storm has blown over and the day dawns overcast and warmer. The outside has a muffled feeling to it, like maybe the oppressive heat may be on it's way back. The scrubbers check the island over and only the far southern side of the compound is deemed to be off limits in the wake of the storm. The lawn is open, the pool is being refilled, the walking paths are up and running. People are invited to get outside, but to cover up!

Events: There is nothing major happening on the compound today. The dress shop and on-sight tailor are both hopping busy as they get ready for the Sweetheart Ball, which is only a week away!

Program Housekeeping Announcements

Susan's Dress Shop - Come and browse the rack and enjoy the attention of a professional fitting in time for the Sweetheart Ball!

Politics: The Board is still enjoying their victory with the European Union. In the wake of such a powerful endorsement, many of the smaller, struggling countries have quieted their outcries. Indeed, there is rumor that the Prime Minister of Australia has been seeking a new charter with the Program, which will open the doors to Australia citizens for the first time in more than a year.

Who: Garron and Adnan
When: lunchtime
Where: cafeteria

Adnan hadn't been to very much structured school. His parents and the other Kurdish refugees had taught him and his sisters at home for the most part, unable to afford to send them anywhere. So it was an interesting pattern to try and get into, with the books and sitting still for so long and listening. His teachers seemed to know that, too; he'd been offered private tutoring in a different setting by more than one of them. While he appreciated the offers, he wanted to see how well he adapted to the classroom setting first. It was only the first week, after all.

Coop had other lunch plans -- which didn't bother him, really, they saw each other for dinner and beyond every night -- so he walked into the cafeteria and got into line alone. As he walked out of the other side of the line with a tray in his hands, he started scanning around for an empty spot to sit, eyes skimming over all of the married-couples faces.

Garron didn't mind the presence of all of the happy couples. He was one half of a pretty cute unit himself. However, his other half had a much more important job than he himself did. She was gratefully back at work in the security tower, making life safe for all of them. He had to admit, though, he'd had a hard time being sympathetic when she'd complained about being taken off external duties. He was a little uneasy at the thought of Avery flying out toward the chaotic mainland in a chopper, protesters and anarchists firing weapons at her. He liked that she was essentially pushing paper and breaking up school yard fights.

School was a trip as well )

exodusmod10:49am: Daily Update, Thursday June 7th, 2065
Victoria Island, BC
Weather: A storm moving down from the north has the island in a bit of an uproar. The docks have been closed to traffic and Security is postponing any candidate pick ups outside of the perimeter today. Early warning stations in Alaska have determined that the storm is pushing a large level of radiation ahead of it. As a result, all personal and program members are ordered to remain inside until the damaging radiation passes. High winds buffet the building and the rain is expected to hit shortly before dinner time. The storm is expected to draw down the warm temperatures.

Events: Thanks to everyone for making the Rom Com festival a roaring success! The Entertainment Committee plans to bring more good times soon! We hope everyone is anticipating the Sweetheart Ball next Friday! Make your dress orders and get measured for your suits right away! You don't want to miss a night of dancing under the starts with the love of your life.

Program Housekeeping Announcements

The Security Center: Please report any open windows and doors to security immediately until the crisis of the radiation storm passes. Anyone caught outside despite the curfew will be charged with endangerment. For everyone's safety, please comply with the indoor orders.

The Health Department - Iodine pills will accompany the breakfast carts today. Please ensure that you and your loved ones take these pills. They will help to lesson the damage in the case of a radiation breach.

Politics: The meeting with the EU in Paris has resulted in a resounding show of support for the program. Leaders all across the stricken northern countries vowed that, under no uncertain terms, would they deny the right to safety, success and good health on the new world. The entire program rejoices, as well as the hopeful applicants from the European Union.

((So sorry that this has come so late.))

exodusmod10:21am: Daily Update, Wednesday June 6th, 2065
Victoria Island, BC
Weather: Warm and breezy, today is another day that begs for a little bit of outdoor play. The temperature by noon will top out at 29C (84F) by mid-day. The UV rating is still high, however, so don't forget to cover up if you can and wear sunscreen.

Events: The end of the Rom Com Festival is upon us and it has been a great time! Today all of the films will be shown on the lawn. Order a picnic basket from the kitchen, grab a blanket and join us to lounge and watch with your sweetheart. For those still enjoying their honeymoons, you'll be able to tune in via your terminals.

11 a.m. - How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days staring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.

5 p.m. - Betsey's Wedding staring Molly Ringwald and Dylan Walsh

8 p.m. - The Proposal staring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

Program Housekeeping Announcements

The Security Center: (repeated from yesterday)With fine weather, people are tempted to roam the grounds and we do encourage outdoor exercise. However, we remind people that it best they stick closer to the hotel than the waterfront. Despite fences, some fanatical protesters find new and inventive ways to attempt to infiltrate. We only have your safety in mind when we ask you to not roam close to the water alone, and should you view non-Program boats in the water, please return to the hotel immediately.

The Health Department - Please remember that UV can harm! Take the time to apply sunscreen or cover up your skin as you enjoy this fine weather!

Politics: Devastating news for the Board of Directors today on two fronts. First, early in the morning, the African Coalition of Countries (Angola, Nambia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique) have all withdrawn support from the Program. Coupled with Greece's abandonment the previous day, this has a dire death knell feel for the program. The ACC also bans it's passport holders from traveling to North America indefinitely. The board members immediately begin to reassure the people of the world that they are still very well funded and in no danger of dissolving. They reassure the people already within the Program and on Haven that the next launch will happen on schedule.

Word comes in the afternoon that the countries of the EU are meeting in Paris to discuss and evaluate their wish to remain involved in the Program. It's a tense day for Program supporters. Without the financial aid of European powers, the Program would suffer a terrible loss that it may not recover from entirely.

littlemissdoc1:36pm: Too Pleasantly Tired To Fight
Who: Kieran and Allie
Where: their suite
When: evening

The past couple of days had passed with no major traumas, which was a good thing. Even though Kieran felt he'd done an excellent job of pretending not to give a shit, the tension of ignoring Allie and having her ignore him had been a killer, and while things weren't rom-com hearts and butterflies by any means, it was much better now. She didn't seem to mind exercising with him, and that was both productive and filled up some of their time, and she'd ceased sleeping on the couch. Of course, the bed was so huge that four people probably could have slept on it comfortably, so it wasn't as if they were crammed up against one another even when they were both in it.

He'd taken a quick shower after dinner, feeling sweaty from the day's exercise session, and he loped back into the living room dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, pausing to pull open the balcony door. They'd decided to watch the movie that was being shown outside, although they'd watch it on their own entertainment terminal, and he figured they could get stereo sound by having the door open. Might as well watch the movie. It was something to do, right? He settled down on the couch after he'd turned the room lights off; plenty of light came in from the middle room where they ate their meals.

Allie was right where he'd left her. She'd had her shower before their meal had been set out and now she was slowly braiding her hair into a damp plait so that the water wouldn't soak into the microfiber of the couch. The breeze from the outside was nice and Allie was glad he'd gotten up to open it because there was no way she was going to.

Grateful For The Ceasefire )

Politics: The Canadian Prime Ministerial race continues to mud sling the program, adding fuel to the raging fire that is the camps. It reached a violent crescendo today as Greece announced that it was withdrawing finanacial support from the Program. It's representative board member, Nikolos Nikolopoupoulous, left the island in a Greek National heliocopter this morning and is not expected to return or be replaced. The abandonment of Greece has not barred Greecians from applying to the Program. Other countries who are being pressured to withdraw their support are threatening to pull their board members as well.
