You guys, I need to rant for a sec. See, I don't even watch Current Crap Show, but I still follow spoilers because... because... IDEK, because I'm a twat, I suppose.

The good news: I don't give a rat's arse about Deniz being anvil-chained to Stella 2.0 Beegirl Whossface Sarah Wendt by the bonds of conveniently degayed plot recycling true love. It's so far into the realms of ridic that I honestly don't even care. It's not Deniz; it's Some Dude who bears a vague resemblance. Fine by me.

The bad news: I am all RAAAAAH GODZILLARAGE about CCS's craptastic handling of a very sensitive subject in Ben & Katja's current, hair-tearingly stupid storyline. And it bugs me because I really really wish I could just ignore that too. ( But gaaaah OMGWTFBBQ. (contains spoilers if anyone cares) )

Okay, stopping by to announce I've committed meta in this fandom about Flo & Franzi's storyline (with reference to Deniz & Roman, of course) and how the storyline addresses gender and sexuality, and what points Show might be trying to make and where I think it fell down.

These days, Katja is made of...

What's your opinion on Katja's development? I know a lot of people are disappointed with the character lately. What would have to be done differently for that to change? What would you like to see happen with her? TELL ME, FANDOM, FOR I MUST KNOW.

Disclaimer: I admit to being a little scared of writing my first post here, so I apologize if I'm going about it the wrong way, being amateurish, annoying etc. Also this is kind of a conversation that continues what Spagettitoes started sometime ago in a post about the Exodus from the show. Here goes.....


Lately I've been reading about a general disillusionment, impatience, boredom with Show that I find interesting. There have been a few posts mentioning this regarding the show as a whole, but I'm interested in how this relates to DeRo as individual characters/fictional couple.

I love looking back at old DeRo because I enjoy the hell out of their storylines, but it really makes me appreciate where the show has taken the couple and where they are now. There's something a bit more grounded about Roman and especially Deniz, at least that's what I read into their relationship after everything they've been through. But the nature of their relationship now has affected their potential for storyline. The usual, more obvious sources for DeRo drama have been used up.

1. Deniz and Roman have broken up twice already, so it becomes less interesting and less dramatic to break up a couple that has already seen their relationship end several times before.

2. Also, Roman's no longer a competitive skater and appears more comfortable in his role as trainer, and Deniz is not a model anymore. There's arguably little room for career-related angst unless conflict arises when/if Deniz begins to hit a glass ceiling at work because he has not completed his formal education.

3. Deniz seems to have a comfortable relationship with Marian, Roman appears to have a stable relationship with Florian. Pending any Egon visit or appearance by Deniz's mother or missing brother (which is something I'd like to see), DeRo have a pretty stable family unit that includes Marian and Florian.

I suppose this is all a long-winded way of saying that DeRo are in a nondramatic place. Roman seems more secure in his work, in his relationship with Deniz, and with himself. Deniz has grown up in a multitude of ways that makes him a more emotionally stable, mature character. I think it is possible for them to be involved in a captivating storyline again, but that it has become harder to do so. In general, what realistic, captivating storylines can Deniz and Roman have now after that they are an established part of the show? I'm interested in where people think the future of DeRo's storylines will lead, if anyone disagrees with me, etc. And at the very least, I just wanted to put the question out there. Thanks.

jessjustjess has recently revisited the early days of AWZ, where the new things we've learned in DeRo 3.0 might have shifted our perceptions quite a bit. He's posted some interesting discussion topics in his journal, and I just wanted to point people over there -- you can examine the notion of patterns in these storylines in AWZ-The Story of Deniz and Roman or discuss Roman in Running From Safety. Lots of fun, lots of chance to gab without those pesky YT limits!

So this is not what anyone expected a discussion on at this stage in the plot I guess but I know that it’s something that’s really upset people and to avoid dumping all this on anyone’s personal journal (*discreet hugs*) I thought we could discuss/vent here!  Now, to the topic at hand…

Okay, in the past couple of weeks we've talked Roman, we've talked Deniz - high time we had a chat about the third point in this triangle, no?

Häh?! You mean LET'S ALL TALK ABOUT MARC AND HOW SMIRKY AND LOPING AND LOVELY HE IS is not enough of a topic?!

'Fraid not.

Sigh. Man, this is like hard work or something. Okaaaay. I think what interests me most at the moment is how well Marc actually does know Roman. Case in point: The scene today after Egon had left. Roman is devastated, doesn't want comfort, Marc backs off. Lil thinks he handled it exactly right, I think he was out of his depth. Thoughts?

Is it one of those connections where it doesn't matter if you've not seen each other in a decade, as soon as you're there in person again, something goes *click* and that's that? Is he deluding himself? Does he know and understand the person Roman's become, is he trying? Are they talking? Or are they too busy falling on each other's lips each time they see each other? How much of it is regret and what ifs and missed chances? How much is that "holy cow, you totally bowled me over, I did not expect that but the hell with it, I'm going after it" flash that we got when he was first about to leave?

And what about Marc's current position? (No, I don't mean between Roman's legs, er, lips. You guys are always so pervy :p) Roman's acknowledged that there's still something there, all the doors of possibility are wiiiide open, and yet everything's frozen in a curious waiting pattern. Is there hope for something real? Did he just set himself up for total heartbreak again, agreeing once again to give Roman time, to wait and wait, not being able to touch him in public, having no official claim whatsoever, hoping that his mad gamble will pay off in the end and Roman will choose him?

Also how much does Marc know about Roman's family history? It actually never occurred to me to doubt that Roman would've told him all about it back then, until someone said on YouTube they were not convinced he did know, and now I'm intrigued. TELL ME MOAR. If he didn't know, why wouldn't he and how does he feel about it now? If he did, how do you think it'll affect current developments, what with Roman's family lies all crashing down around him and Roman having to deal with his craptastic loser of a father?

Or, you know, talk about whatever, as long as it's Marc-related (and isn't OMG GET HIM OFF MY SCREEN I WANT MY BOYS FLUFFYCUDDLYHAPPY 24/7). I haven't slept in about 50 hours and all my thinky-thoughts look like Maximum-induced vodka pixies *gropes after them*

There's been a lot going on in Roman Wild's life lately, so much so that I think Show's leaving a lot of latitude for us to fill in the blanks again. Which, YAY!
