Um, WTF?

HPFandom.net... account suspended... any information to be had?

Per darlinggirl1263 on LJ: The account was suspended for "excessive CPU usage". The mod is working to get things back up and running. We'll just have to wait it out.

ETA: Had a couple of people asking for an older fic - meaning the ones I have not tagged here on IJ yet - so, I figured I'd just link you my LJ tags.

Jesus. I gotta make myself get those old tags done. I mean, it has only been two and one-half years, right? *hates that kind of stuff*

Vanilla and Kinky and Lifestyle! Oh, my!

To be honest, I hadn't intended on posting anymore about BDSM. Not outside of fic, anyway. But someone asked the difference between kinky sex and Lifestyle. And the answers to this are endless. Especially if you try to use nothing but serious, technical type jargon.

Good thing we all know I'm not so great with sticking to the technical, huh?

So, let's look at this like a bowl of ice cream. Because, really, who doesn't like ice cream? )

Meta meta meta on the table table table: Naming your Muses!

Found on DW's Metafandom comm, An entry about naming muses and nicknaming fics, I have decided to open a discussion about the subject here on IJ.

Do y'all name your muses? Do you have nicknames for your fics?

And stuff!! )

So I am using this one because it is fun. :3 :3 ;3

Dear Muses,

Now that I'm starting on the Zero Princess Saga/Void Space Saga/Whatever the hell you want to call this series, Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, turn this into Viceroyverse done Kairi/Rinoa Style.

Please. I don't care how well it works, I don't care that it works on a multitude of levels. I don't care if it'd be cute (and about a quarter as creepy as Quistis/Kairi is!). I don't care if it makes a lot more sense than any other Kairi pairing in existence, Sora/Kairi included. But the Nonsense of Sora/Kairi is another show rant. Aaaanyway, no one would read it.

Even if it is a really good idea--

No. No. If you try and steer it in that direction, and we know that the one-sided Rinoa/Kairi in Braceletverse is enough, I will turn this brain around and write...umm...

I WILL MAKE US WRITE MPREG. SORA/KAIRI MPREG. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES!?

No love,
Jordi.

Daily life: Counting my past wordage

"My biggest writing mistake is that I can't leave well enough alone. Even after the manuscript has come back from the various proof-readers I use, inevitably, the urge to pick a scab overrules all logical sensibility."

Daily life: Trying to figure out ways to improve my wordage

"Look, I do know this: stories matter.

"Sometimes they come to me in the middle of the night, I wake up and I know there was once a person with a name, a history, a life -- and sometimes they died a hundred years ago and sometimes they haven't been born yet, but they're so real, they're right there, like I can touch them. I write them, when I can, and grieve them often, in ways I've learned to be smart enough not to talk about.

"At times that bothers me, the silence I feel obligated to that comes with storytelling. It bothers me when I write, which is one manner of inhabiting a character, and it bothers me when I act, which is another. But I've learned to live with it because stories, and the people they are about, are, in the telling, more important than me.

"I'm just a translator, a medium, a canvass and a liar. Their stories matter so much that in the telling of them, all I can wish is to disappear.

"And I love them so much, the people I tell into being.

"Which means that when it comes to the business of awards my gut says, honor them. Not me. Not writers. Characters. Stories. Honor them."

--RM

Writing life: A celebration of thirty years of The Three Lands

I pressed my Muse hard and persuaded him to finish writing Law Links (The Three Lands) today, November 8. I began writing that novel fourteen years ago, almost to the day: November 15, 1995.

By coincidence, this year happens to be the thirtieth anniversary of the original draft of the first Three Lands story I wrote, Blood Vow. In honor of that, I thought I'd show three versions each of two scenes from the novel, so that you can see how my writing has ceased being absolutely dreadful progressed.

The first appearance of the Chara in 'Blood Vow,' just after my 16th birthday. Spoilers for Part One of 'Blood Vow.' Warning for bad teenage humor. )
The same scene re-written one year later )
The final version of that scene, age 45 )
The first appearance of Lord Carle, in a passing reference, as part of a flashback )
The second appearance of Lord Carle. Warning for a horrible simile. )

Do I even have any Trek slashers on my flist other than myself and jemisard?

Now that I've actually seen the new Star Trek movie, I feel comfortable recommending jemisardjemisard's Spock/McCoy trilogy (rated PG.)

It begins with Before You're Old, in which TOS!Spock seeks out STXI!McCoy in an attempt to set right an old regret. The prequel Time Enough shows us the last days of TOS!McCoy's life, which he's chosen to spend with Spock (character death, obviously.) The last part of the trilogy is the sequel Bloom of Youth which takes place almost immediately after the events of Before You're Old. STXI!McCoy discusses with STXI!Spock the conversation just concluded with his counterpart and what impact it has to their comradeship.

This trilogy is one I'd consider a must-read for Spock/McCoy shippers, and would reccomend to non-shippers for the same reasons; jemisardjemisard's strong grasp of characterization makes the interaction between all characters a delight to read. She maintains the classic interaction between TOS Spock and McCoy, the more antagonistic and shaky version of the same with their XI counter-parts, and in doing so subtly illustrates both the similarties and differences between the four characters. Her plot is also a joy, fitting easily into the cracks between series and movie in such a way that I could easily see this happening.

Ok, dry pseudo-professional tone aside; you should totally read this. I read the trilogy when jemisardjemisard first posted it, and made the choice to see the new Star Trek movie because of how well she'd written in that 'verse. This fic convinced me to spend actual money guys, I am a skinflint this is a big deal!

Wow, my geekitude really does know no bounds

*looks @ fic*

*looks @ scratch notes*

It really takes a special kind of geeky OCD to turn "how are we going to transport these aliens" into a convoluted dimensional analysis problem and then try to turn that lovely long string of Imperial-to-metric-and-back conversions into (hopefully) believable dialogue.

Have also finally chiseled out something vaguely resembling an outline. Sort of. Considering the extremely minimal say-so I appear to have in terms of what is actually happening with this damned thing, I'm sort of pleased to have managed to contain it in 13 chunks/eps/chaps/whatever. For now. This is, after all, The Fic That Wouldn't Stay Dead, and "if I can't kill you, I can contain you" turned out to be canonically (and predictably) untrue. *facepalm* Which isn't to say that they're all written, by any means. Very close to crossing the 60K mark though. *boggles*

Finally finished my S2 rewatch Friday night at work. Amazing how differently some bits come across the second time through.

Also periodically listening to audio of GDL's panels from The New England Fan Experience, which I briefly considered running up to Boston for last week (before deciding that was insane, as it would mean leaving directly from work Saturday morning to have even a prayer of catching his panel that day). Dear Gods, this fandom really has kidnapped my brain. *facepalm*

Oh, and I watched "The Rescue" last night. I don't always watch the special features, but I did this time, and it was interesting to learn that those two eps got the highest ratings of any Who story arc until the Baker years. They were all marveling that it was a bigger draw than the Daleks. I'm marveling that "1st introduction of a new companion" was a bigger draw than "1st regeneration." Which reminds me, tangentially, that [info]ubiquirk just drew my attention to the fact the Doctor is apparently supposed to get younger with each regeneration. Huh. Didn't know Gallifreyans had a common ancestry with Orkians. This has slightly tempered my annoyance that Eleven looks like a teenager. (Does that mean Twelve will need to actually be one? LOL)

Ah well, time to do a bit more writing. 76 more words and I'll hit this week's [info]5_for_five goal. Whee!

I'm busy, busy, busy, trying to finish working on a piece, but I just wanted y'all to see how much the Impertinent Daughter's artwork has improved.

Katsumi

She's come to the attention of the art teacher at her junior high, who has encouraged her to participate in this year's art UIL. And that, in turn, has encouraged her to sign up to take art in high school. Of course, you know I'm incredibly proud!

Hi! My name is Minxie…

…and I'm a submissive. As in, a contracted and collared sub to my husband, Matt. D/s, BDSM, leather, lifestyle, call it what you will. It is what it is.

Originally, I intended to post something like an introduction because, as my fandoms branch out, there are new people on my flist. And I tend to be loud and opinionated when it comes to head exploding kink fics. Figured offering some insight to me might help explain the tangent rants I sometimes have. Along with the fact that most, if not all, of my fics have some display of power dynamics, no matter how subtle.

I'm sure those of you who know me best find that to be an understatement. Heh.

This has morphed, through conversations with friends, into not only a hey, this is me post, but also one that, for lack of tact on my part, is a whoa! let's think about this before you write it post. Mainly because BDSM comes under enough fire without having misleading works of fiction floating around out there stirring up more trouble than they're worth.

And, honestly, not trying to be a bitch, but if a piece of fiction disregards the basic principles of safe, sane, and consensual they really are more trouble than they're worth. They set a stage for others, those not in the scene, that can lead to misunderstandings, arguments, and, most important, serious injury.

Not cool.

Not when it takes just a few lines of dialogue, or even implied conversation to lend believability and credibility to the work.

To that end, I've started a list. Which is actually quite funny seeing as I despise lists. )

Got questions? Ask 'em. I'd rather you ask me something embarrassing than you make my head go splodey in the next fic I run across.

Also - I have cola! I can't drink the sugary stuff because of my diet (plus diabetes runs in my family) and I used to drink litres of the diet stuff but then I found that the aspartame was causing an allergic reaction. Morrisons though make a max version with no added sugar and no aspartame. I have missed cola and I find I write better with cola.
