Without you, this would never have come into being. <3 A/N: This world is circa 1700s or 1800s, so definitely not the world of equality for all. Slavery, women as concubines rather than companions, war, famine, injustice... I'm sure there will be a bit of something to offend everyone here, but I hope you will allow yourself to suspend judgment and read anyway. There is a combination of fantasy and more realistic elements in the story, but no magic. I will do my best to post these at regular intervals, though I have a tendency to get side-tracked now and again, so do bear with me. |

Warning: angst, epilogue kids Word Count: 4625 A/N: This was the quick little fic idea that decided to turn into an epic. But I suppose that’s what I get for trying to cover the time between the end of the battle and the scene in the epilogue… The style's a bit unusual, because I wanted to try something different. I hope it doesn't throw people off too much. Basically, anything that isn't in italics is dialogue. But when he's hit by an unknown curse, the person to help him is, perhaps, the most unlikely of all. Word Count: 9497 Disclaimer: The characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling – save for a few who were made by annafugazzi. No infringement on copyright was intended and no money made from this work of fiction. Author's notes: Written for annafugazzi at HD Remix at LJ In this remix I chose to keep the framework of the original fic. The basic plot and its devices are all made by annafugazzi as are the various OCs herein. The idea for setting and what the characters are doing there should also be credited to annafugazzi. My contribution was to switch the point of view and update the fic to being compliant with Deathly Hallows – even the epilogue, if you squint. Hard *G* I also changed some of the dynamics surrounding the magic used here and I have to admit to cutting parts of the original as well to make it more suitable for an exchange. I would like to mention the dialogue because I had a lot of fun with mixing annafugazzi's original dialogue with my own to make the fic a parallel but not simply a rewrite. My thanks go to coffeejunkii for running this amazing exchange and to my beloved beta and muse, elfflame. She is the reason this one worked out for me. some very important recs so after viewing the list of 225 h/d classics on gossymer's LJ: http://gossymer.livejournal.com/101 i've done some thinking. i have had a couple of discussions with people who've read the list and immediately thought of fics that are their favorites that they have always thought of as classics that didn't make the list. the first ones that come to mind that others have mentioned to me are "checkmate" by naadi moonfeather and "clear as mud" by scoradh so, my request is that in a reply to this post everyone rec less than 5 (we don't want to go crazy) fics that they love that they feel should have been on the list. i am thinking in terms of a new h/d shipper using that list a resource. what fics would we say every h/d shipper should read that are not on the list. i am not knocking the list. i think it is fantastic. i have added it to my favorites and plan to use it as a resource. but i really feel the need to rec some fics that were not on the list and wanted to invite everyone else to do that as well. here's my five: one night at the ministry by maeglinyedi http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.p hilarious nevermind the bollocks by geoviki http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.p pure unadultered essential crack all his saints by setissma http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.p brilliant and beautiful, i would put this in my top 5 h/d fics ever. open surrender by anise http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.p in my opinion, one of the hottest h/d smut fics of all time the other hottest h/d smut fic of all time is "in hot water" which i believe is by fiona_fawkes, but my computer isn't letting me access the LJ link right now. does anyone know if this fic is archived in more than one place? so, there you have it. go forth and rec. and thank you in advance for your contribution. ;) |
