All at once, there was a disturbance in the bar, as the illusion of a door opened, and two little girls danced their way in. They were about six years old, wearing pink leotards, long dark hair pulled back in pigtail braids. It only took them about 2.7 seconds to realise they were in a strange place, both of them going wide eyed.

The bolder of the two stepped forward, as if to shield her sister, as they took in their surroundings. "A bar? Really." She said in spanish, as the other girl looked on. She tugged at the other one's sleeve, hands moving in a blur, signing a litany of questions, Where are we? Where is mami? How did we get here?

Catching just the end of the signs, Zira frowned- well, that was different. Bar didn't usually draw in children, by themselves. Instincts took over, and he made his way over to them, crouching down to be on their level.

'Are you girls alright?' He gave them a soft, friendly smile, hoping a man approaching them out of the blue wouldn't be considered threatening.

Reina looked to Sofia, for her reaction. Sofia looked at the man, and frowned. He wasn't anyone she knew, but she wasn't afraid of him. She was more curious, than anything.

She spoke and signed, in the habit of both, for Reina's benefit. "We were dancing on the big stage, and we don't know how we got here. Where are we? I don't remember a bar backstage. Where's Mami? Are you deaf?"

Reina kept a step behind Sofia, watching the man, over Fi's shoulder.

Zira gave them both another genial smile, glad to see she wasn't afraid.

'I'm Mr. Z. I am deaf, and very happy you girls are very bright, and can understand me. I don't know your mommy, but I'm sure someone's going to come looking for you, soon. Are you thirsty? Dancing is very hard work' Never mind he was a hopeless dancer, himself, anything with that much movement had to be tough work. 'We can get you something to drink, and sit down, and wait for your parents to wander by, okay?'

He hoped that was alright, at least. His mind ran down the list of women in the bar, and none of them even vaguely resembled the girls. But then why would they be here?

'My sister's deaf,' Sofia said, and spared a glance at Reina. She took her sister's hand for a quick squeeze, before dropping it so she could use bother her hands to sign. 'We don't have a daddy. Just Mami.' she said to Zira, then looked to Reina. 'You want something to drink?'

Reina's eyes darted from Fi to Zira. "Apple juice, please.'

Well, that complicated things. Still, Zira hid his confusion with another smile, and a pleasant little nod.

'Why don't you girls go find a table to sit at, and I'll get you both that apple juice, okay?'

Sofia nodded. Reina took her hand, and the two started to walk over to a table. They slid into a booth that was clearly designed for bigger people. They sat together on one side of the booth, a united front.

'What's happening, Fi?' Reina asked. 'I'm scared. Where are we? We're not old enough to be in a bar. Mami wouldn't bring us here.'

'Mami isn't here, ReiRei,' Fi said, looking around. 'I don't know anyone here. They look like they're all Americans.' Not one dark skinned person around. it seemed odd, because almost everyone in their town was native to Rio, and had olive skin tones.

Zira kept a subtle eye on them as he moved around the bar, wanting to make it look like he was getting the apple juice from somewhere, not willing it up to himself. He could tell they were distressed, and already his heart went out to them- he couldn't help it. It was programmed into him.

After a reasonable amount of time, he had two glasses of apple juice will twirly straws (kids liked that sort of thing, right?), as well as a bowl of popcorn balanced in the crook of one arm. Heading back, he set the offerings on the table before sitting down across from them. While he didn't want to scare them, he was even more concerned about the idea of them being there alone.

'What is your mother's name? There are many people here- she may be waiting for you,'

'Her name is Mami,' Sofia signed. Reina tugged her arm, and spelled out 'Orlinda'. Sofia nodded, and picked up her glass of juice. She liked the twirly straw, and fingered the curves of it, until it dipped down into the juice. She didn't like to get her fingers sticky. 'Do you know her?'

He smiled slightly at the first girl's answer, although it faltered when it was a name he didn't recognize. He hesitated, before shaking his head. 'I'm afraid I don't, ladies. But then, I'm not the most social person, here. She might be here, yet,' Which wasn't exactly a lie. He had never heard of an Orlinda, but then, he didn't speak to everyone. And if there was one thing these girls seemed to need, it was hope.

'Okay. Thank you for the juice,' Sofia said, speaking the words as she signed. Reina nodded her agreement. They had no idea where they were, how they got there, or what they were supposed to do, now.

'You're very welcome. Do you girls need anything else? Do you have any questions? I know this is very weird.' And he had no idea how to help, something that made him frown vaguely. He didn't like not knowing how to help, but at the same time, he didn't want to scare them further.

'We just want mami.' Reina signed, without really looking at the man. She was clearly the more shy, of the two girls.

Zira frowned, reaching out to set a hand gently on Reina's shoulder to get her eyes back on him. 'I'm sorry, child. I don't know where she is. But you're safe here, and anything you need, anything at all, I will help you with until you find her, alright? Things will work out,'

He saw them from behind, as he came into the bar from outside. Probably best not to ask what he was doing out there, but he stopped in his tracks at the sight of the two little heads, two little girls sitting side by side in a booth. His breath stuck in his throat, and he felt his heart rate increase. He knew, without question, they were his daughters, the ones in the picture.

He glanced at the steps, as if willing Greg to be there. Greg would know, if what he'd said before was true. In his experience, they had raised the girls together. Greg wasn't around. Ray would have to do this on his own.

He had the fleeting thought to head upstairs, without comment, and hide out in his room. Instead, he walked over to the table, and found a small smile. "Reina? Sofia?" he asked. looking to the girls and ignoring the man sitting across from them. He knew one, Reina, was deaf, but the other was able to hear, and Ray didn't know sign.

Sensing the concern, the familial feeling coming from the other man had Aziraphale relieved- he was glad they at least had someone willing to be parental for them. Not that he wouldn't, but they deserved family.

The bottom fell out of that plan, with the confused look Sofia gave the new man, tapping Reina's shoulder to get her attention as well.

"Yeah?" Sofia signed as she spoke for Reina's benefit, a little more concerned with this man than she had been the first- he knew their names, but she didn't recognize him.

Ray shook his head. No. It couldn't be. He was seeing things, imagining. it was because of Allie. Something about the kid, made him think of the twins. He passed a hand over his face. The scene in front of him was surreal, and he blinked.

"It's not possible," he heard himself murmur.

Sofia watched the man suspiciously for a minute, before turning back to her sister, thinking he wasn't going to continue. The girls had a concerned conversation in sign, about their mami not being there, about these boys bothering them. She was curious, about how he thought he knew them, but she didn't want to talk to the stranger more than she had to. Mami always said that was bad.

His focus wavered, over looking at them and watching their hands as they were speaking. "What are they saying?" he asked the man sitting with the girls, then sighed when Zira didn't answer. "Is your mother here?" he asked Sofia, then.

Aziraphale frowned vaguely when he saw the man try to ask him something, making the somewhat-recognizable sign for 'deaf', at his ear.

Sofia looked to him, before back to the new man, head turning to the side. Her English wasn't very good, but she caught 'mother'.

'What about Mami?'

The Angel was about ready to put his head to the table. He signed the question over. Sofia hesitated, before shaking her head slightly. 'We don't know where Mami is,'

Ray, unfortunately, was on his own- translating back to spoken English would be impossible, for Zira.

Ray looked between the two, or three really, though one of the girls offered little to the signed conversation. "Okay. What about your father?" Ray asked, looking pointedly at the girl who had spoken. Shaking his head, he sighed, and asked again, in Spanish.

She was a little more confused, now, that he spoke Spanish, but did answer, after a minute.

'We don't have a Papi, just a Mami.' It was usually 'we', with Sofia; she was used to being her sister's voice, speaking for the both of them.

He pulled his wallet out of his pocket, and showed the girls the picture he had. 'This is a picture of my girls, Reina and Sofia,' he said, eyes looking past his shaking hand to her face.

Sofia looked at the picture, taking it from Ray's hand to show it to Reina. They pointed and signed, looks of stunned confusion on their face. They scooted imperceptibly closer to each other, and away from Ray.

"But that's us." Her voice was smaller, somehow, worried.

For better or worse, another man came hobbling down to the bar, at that point. He stood back, long enough to read the signed conversation between the two girls. Of course they weren't his daughters, that would have been too easy. Even though Ray seemed to be floundering, he figured his going over there would be adding gas to a fire, so he redirected, heading to the bar. He'd been there, if Ray needed help- but he wouldn't impose.

Ray nodded. "'Your mother sent it to me about six months ago. I'm...I'm your father.'" He ran his other hand over his face. What was he supposed to do now?

He saw Greg hobble past, and take a seat at the bar. He sighed. 'Okay, Wood. Think.' He berated himself. He had to think of something. He had to do something.

He glanced at Greg. "Hey. You know these girls? These are the twins you were talking about?"

"They're not mine- they don't know me. But yeah. That's them." He could tell by the dubious way Sofia was looking at him that she didn't understand who he was, or what he was saying, and he sighed, reverting to Spanish to address her.

"It's alright. I'm his brother, Greg. Your uncle. What he says is true."

The girls had another signed conversation. Greg watched as he walked over, standing next to Ray so he could speak to him, softly.

"Orlinda told them you were a bad man, that you were 'gone forever'. She didn't think you'd be coming back to them. You're better off not telling them I understand sign. She lies, in her translations," All said lightly, with a smile on his face, trying to keep Sofia from catching on to what they were saying.

"This is really fucked up." Ray scrubbed his hands over his face. "Orlinda isn't here. What the hell am I supposed to do with these kids?" He sighed, wondering not for the first time why he was stuck here, when his other self was not. "I can't take care of them. I can't."

Sofia might have been distracted, but she heard her Mami's name, and turned to them. "What're you saying about Mami?"

"Just that she's not here. He's worried, princess. You shouldn't be alone, here,"
The use of the nickname didn't go unnoticed, and Fi seemed to relax a little bit.

"You knew my mami, too?"

Greg nodded. "I helped her with you, when you were really small." So, a half-lie. Orlinda hadn't shown up until after the girls were six, in Greg's mind. But he'd helped her with them. And to him, they were small like this. As if having a thought, he turned back to Ray, finishing his thought.

"You can, and you will. It's not like you don't have people to help. We have friends here," The 'we' included the four of them, his tone probably implied. "Aziraphale, here, for one." The angel looked at him curiously, having caught his name. Greg closed his eyes with a sigh. "You are the angel, right? Aziraphale?" Zira nodded slowly, making Greg smile. "Then he'll help. He's genetically programmed to, or something," He looked a little embarrassed about being recognized, but not disagreeable.

Ray nodded. "Okay. Okay. I can. We can do this. It'll be all right." He found a small smile, for Greg, for Aziraphale, and for the girls. Mostly he felt like passing out, or something. Waking up would be better, even if he was still in prison. He might take the cell, over this madness.

"It'll be all right," he repeated in Spanish, for Sofia's benefit. "You can stay with me, unless or until your mami comes to get you."

The twins talked amongst themselves for a couple minutes, before reaching a decision, both nodding almost at the same time.

"Okay. Until Mami gets here. Where are you staying?"

Greg looked at Ray, before deciding to take the heat for that revelation. "There are rooms upstairs- this place is like a big fancy hotel. And your little cousin and I are staying right down the hall, so you'll always have someone to stay with, okay?"

The mention of a 'little cousin' interested them just like he figured it might, the girls brightening up at the idea. He started in on explaining about Allie, how old she was, that the girls could be big cousins and help with her sometimes. It seemed to take the last bit of an edge off, and distract from their being stuck in the bar, at least for then.

Seeing the girls seemed okay, Aziraphale slid out of the bench, signing to Reina and Fi that he had to go check on his friend, but he would be around if they wanted him. That left the other side of the booth open for Gred to slide in and sit, waving his hand at the space next to him, for Ray. They hadn't been quite that close, before, but to keep up with the idea of being 'brothers', it would have to be alright.

Ray didn't hesitate to slide in next to Greg. What else could he do? If Greg was saying they were brothers, he'd go with it. Especially since Greg put the girls a bit more at ease, with talk of the cousin.

Ray watched how they talked to each other, hands flying in conversation. It was fascinating to him. "I suppose I'll have to learn sign," he said, voice low, a whisper to himself, not really meant to be out loud.

He knew Spanish, his interest in Latin dances had led to an interest in the language. He'd had no need to learn sign, even knowing his daughter was deaf, he'd never thought he'd meet her.

Greg chatted with them for a few minutes more, about Allie and their friends there, trying to paint a good picture of the place, before Reina's fidgeting with her skirt became unavoidable.

"Are you girls uncomfortable? We can find you some better clothes, if you want." The girls discussed that, before both nodded. Greg grinned. "Okay, good. Lemme show you a magic trick," He cracked his knuckles for show, before leaning down, tilting his head to address the bar.

"May I have pajamas for these beautiful princesses, please?" A pair of night gowns appeared on the table in front of the girls, earning gasps. "It's magic- the bar. And as long as you're polite, she'll get you whatever you want," The girls seemed properly impressed at that, each asking for a bowl of ice cream, which appeared almost instantly. Greg seemed poised to ask them what they'd eaten, a reflex imposed on him by Ray, but he held back. For the night, ice cream for dinner seemed fair.

Ray smiled a little, as he watched them. Greg was really good with the girls, and it made Ray feel all the more sad for him, and for them. He wouldn't know how to do the things Greg did, how to put the girls at ease, like that. It was interesting to watch, at the same time it was heartbreaking for him.

"We should have ice cream too," Ray suggested to Greg. "May I have ice cream, please?" a bowl appeared for Ray, spoon and all. He smiled a little more, though he was still mostly sad.

"Make mine a root beer float," Greg's own melancholy was hidden well, mostly by the fact that it was a sort of default for him, these days. Once the float appeared, he took the spoon and dug in, willing to take the almost-normal moment in silence.

That, of course, didn't last much longer than the girls' sundaes. Once they were done, each gave a yawn, stretching and scratching at the tulle of their skirts. Greg wasn't quite done with his float, but he'd likely be coming back down to the bar for something stronger later. It could wait.

"You ladies ready to go get ready for bed?" Another short signed conversation, before they gave in and nodded- well, that was infinitely easier than it had been back home. They must have really felt out of place. He nodded, waving Ray out of the booth. "We'll head upstairs, show you girls the room. You're big enough to get ready for bed yourself," He said, as much to inform Ray as to make them feel like big girls. They nodded, and slipped out of the booth to follow Greg and Ray upstairs.
