Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!episode 01: darkness descends, character: gabrielle delacour, character: hannah abbott, status: complete

Characters: Gabrielle Delacour & Hannah Abbott
Setting: St. Mungo's Hospital; June 30 1pm.
Rating: PG at minimum will increase if need too
Summary: Hannah Abbott needs to seek help and finds herself in the company of Gabrielle

Gabrielle was sitting waiting for the next clinic patient that would be sent her way. She was taking new entries today and doing the first observation before sending them to the correct ward. This was not the position she liked the best, but it challenged her skills on various levels. Though of course they skipped right over the patients who were in dire need and of course those it was obvious where they needed to be.

Gabrielle rubbed her head and hoped that today she would not break down into tears again. She had just been a blubbering mess these past couple of days and it was just so unusual. This was not herself. Not her at all. Maybe she was just over tired. But she never broke down to tears with very little as a catalyst. Gabrielle just did not understand.

She was told there was her next patient in the waiting room and she nodded her head dropping her hand from her forehead and walked out with as much confidence as she could muster. Gabrielle looked down at the clipboard and seemed somewhat shocked at the familiarity of the name. Hannah Abbott. Wasn't she the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, she was there so often she was sure it was her. She looked around the waiting room and saw her. "Hannah Abbott."

Hannah had made it down to the pub just a few times this weekend. She'd convinced her father and step-mother to keep Christopher until she could figure out what was wrong. Of course she'd had some explaining to do, but in the end they had agreed that keeping him with them until Hannah could sort herself out was the best idea. They also urged her to contact Neville and let him know that Christopher was with them for a few days. She told them she would but didn't. Worrying him while he was at school wrapping up the end of term would do none of them any good. If there was a need to tell him, she would.

Over the past few days the bitter taste that all food had taken on as of late had gotten so bad that even drinking water had become hard to swallow. The tears had come so hard the night before as she sat there looking at the waning moon out her window. She wasn't able to get them under control enough to sleep until well after two this morning. Now she stood at her icebox, stomach growling in anger as she cried because there was so much in there while there was nothing for her to eat. It was then that she'd decided it was time to haul herself to St. Mungo's.

She'd been in the waiting room for about an hour and had drifted to sleep. Her name rang through the air and she stirred and stretched as she stood. "I'm here," she made her way across the room to where a young girl that she thought she recognized stood. Of course she was too tired as of late to make a solid connection.

Gabrielle just hoped she kept it together today, she would rather be in one of the wards where she knew what to expect rather than being hit with the luck of the draw. What if there was some exceptionally hard to hear sob story? She would be of no help with the rate she had been going. Victoire was staying with her and she had hoped she had not frightened or disturbed her niece with the tears she had cried, she had hoped some what silently the night before. And she still hoped that the vision she had seen of spiders crawling over every inch of her apartment had been stress induced and nothing worse. Thinking about the spiders had made her start to shake making her cross her arms over her chest in hopes to hide it.

"Come with me Ms. Abbott and we will get you looked over." She guided Hannah back to the room to examine her, and hear what was going on. She was curious to know what was going on with her, she always seemed so happy and healthy. Of course time could change that, and obviously it had if she was coming in here.

Once in the examination room she motioned for Hannah to take a seat on the examination table and she took a seat at the table putting the chart down and pulled out her wand to make the quill take notes, much more accurate than the quick-quotes-quill. She had picked up this trick in her time at the hospital rather than taking hand held notes. Of course it did cause her to have to say everything she wanted to take note of out loud. "So what brings you in today."

While Hannah had drifted her mind had gone to the inventory she needed to check and reorder. This was a good thing because it wasn't a topic that she was likely to find anything emotional to distract her with. Therefore, she was able to keep her composure as she made her way across the room.

Upon approaching Gabrielle she gave a simple nod and followed the other woman through the doors to the room. She took a seat and looked over to the side of the room. Her mother was standing there against the was in the same way she had whenever Hannah had needed to see the doctor as a girl. "Mum," she whispered eyes trained on the wall. Tears started to leak from her eyes as she turned back to the other witch. "How long has she been here?"

Gabrielle watched as the older woman she barely knew started to cry, that was peculiar, but nothing so peculiar as what came next. Her eyes darted to where Ms. Abbott was looking she furrowed her brow in confusion. "How long as who been there?" Gabrielle felt herself shaking again and thought that tears might start just looking at this woman cry so painfully. What was she seeing that could cause such pain? Gabrielle felt helpless.

"Who or what do you see?" She said as she felt and heard her voice break as she talked. Looking at Hannah she stood up walking a little closer. The quill writing this all down. "I don't see anything."

Hannah swallowed hard. Jillian gave her daughter a sad smiled It's okay dear, tell the mediwitch what's bothering you.

"My mum," Hannah said as the tears fell freely. "She's standing right there," she lifted her hand in disbelief toward where her mother stood. Hannah knew that sometimes witches were held at St. Mungo's for years because of magical illnesses. In her mind she knew it couldn't be so, but here the woman was clear as day, and no she wasn't a ghost. Could it be that the Jillian had been locked away in a ward for all these years?

She then turned to her mother and added in the pleading voice of a little girl. "I can't tell her what's wrong, because I don't know?"

Gabrielle did not divert her eyes to the spot because she knew there was nothing there. It was heart breaking to watch a woman have a psychotic break like this. "I'm sorry Ms. Abbott but nobody is there." Gabrielle took a few steps towards her as she said she didn't know what was wrong. "Have you been seeing things a lot?" Gabrielle hoped she could not break into tears just like she wanted to do right now.

"I think I should go find someone from the Psych Ward." Or namely her trainer because she was not sure she was capable or able to handle this in her own state. Gabrielle looked her over. "Can you tell me anything else you have been experiencing?"

Gabrielle knew she had to get through the rest of the check up before she could really move her anywhere.

She didn't hear anything Gabrielle said because Hannah was busy engaging in a conversation with her mother. "I have tried to eat. Nothing tastes right anymore." She tossed her hands up in the air. "No, mother," she argued, "I'm not going to bring him home until this is sorted out. Neville's not there to take care of him anymore."

When she heard her mother practically call her crazy, Hannah snapped. "I'm not crazy," she yelled at the wall. "I'm just tired and worried," she cried not voicing exactly what it was she was worried about because there were so many things that seemed to way heavy on her mind this past week. She fell back into the chair and cried uncontrollably. Could this get any worse.

Tears started to fall down Gabrielle's cheeks as she listened to Hannah discuss, or more like argue, with her mother that just wasn't there. Had Hannah lost her mother in the past? Gabrielle just did not know. "Ms. Abbott please," she wanted her to sit down and calm down. She brushed tears from her own cheeks and tried to hold it together. "You are under a lot of stress."

Gabrielle took a few steps towards the door. "Please stay here." She had to go find someone to help, she was not accomplishing anything. Gabrielle left the room and when in search for her superior. She found him rather quickly as he tended to be near by to assist. "I have a patient and she is talking to someone there and I cannot get anything else out of her as she is merely talking to this other person that is not there." Gabrielle followed the other doctor to the room and both entering he spoke. "Ms. Abbott who are you speaking with."

Hannah's face was in her hands and she could still hear her mother's voice. She'd begun a litany of things Hannah had done that both made her proud and disappointed her. Each statement made her cry a bit harder until she was crying so hard that Jillian's voice was lost among the tears.

Somewhere she heard a voice tell her to stay, not that Hannah could have gone anywhere if she wanted. By the time Gabrielle returned with reinforcements Hannah was certain her mother was just sanding off to the side giving her a disapproving look. "I'm talking to my..." her voice trailed off as she turned to look where Jillian had been standing, her mother was gone.

"What did you do with her? Why did you make her leave?" Hannah stood and pushed past the medi-wizard to the door where she frantically began looking up and down the hall. "Mum, I'm sorry. Come back," she choked on the words and tears as she slid to the floor certain that she'd lost the only chance she'd had in years to be with her mum.

Gabrielle watched as Hannah started breaking down even further, she wasn't sure it was even possible to cry that hard yet here this woman was. "We did not do anything to her Ms. Abbott she was never here." She sad it rather harshly and insensitive because she couldn't process or handle it anymore. Anger was coming out instead of tears, which was probably for the best at this moment because she didn't need her boss thinking she was incapable of controlling herself.

Dr. Owens, looked at the home and took a hold of her pulling her back into the room a gentle as possible. "Ms. Abbott you need to sit down. You are seeing things that are not there. There was only ever you and Gabrielle in this room until I arrived. You mother is not here." He looked at Gabrielle and told her to get a sedation potion. Gabrielle just nodded her head and went back into the hall to get one. Gabrielle was in fact relieved to get out of there for a moment as she had started to shake once more. Tears fell down her cheeks as she grabbed for the potion and brushed her hand over her face to wipe away the tears before re-entering the room.

"We need you to take this Ms. Abbott." She looked at the woman and then to her boss, it was clear to both of them that she needed to take her to the Psychiatric Ward on the fourth floor. Gabrielle did not spend a great deal of time on that floor as she had no interest in specializing there. But to get Hannah there she needed to be much calmer in hopes of not using force or spells to get her there.

Her mother was gone. For the second time in Hannah's life her mother had just up and disappeared. Over this past week everything that she'd thought she knew had been upended. Ghosts that she'd buried and done her damnedest to forget about had come boldly to the surface. Combine that with whatever physical ailment had taken over her body and Hannah Abbott was very close to losing her mind if it wasn't already completely gone.

As she sat there on the floor, any fight she had left in her escaped Hannah's body and mind. When they offered her the potion she simply put her hand up in a simple refusal. Hannah knew it would taste absolutely horrid and she didn't want to deal with retching up the potion which would just add to her physical exhaustion. "I can't it's going to taste horrible," she looked up at Gabrielle and actually saw her for the first time since the young girl had brought her back. "I've not eaten in two days because everything tastes horrible."

"You don't have to Ms Abbott," she said looking at her and getting down to her level. "If you can do one thing with me and come with me to the fourth floor." She looked up at Mr. Owens and he nodded his head. He was going to let her finish this herself but was there if Hannah broke down again. "And we will need to get you some form of nutrients soon. So it is better to get you checked in." Gabrielle was honestly concerned because she saw a bit of what she was feeling in her and worried she too could end up like that.

Standing up she held out her hand so Hannah could take it if she wanted to stand up. It seemed she wasn't as hysterical as she was earlier so that was a step in the right direction.

Hannah didn't want to fight anymore. She didn't want to cry. She didn't want to be hungry. She only wanted to rest. The best way to do that would be to get checked in so other people could worry about her instead of having to worry over herself.

She reached out and to the younger woman's hand and pulled herself up. "Alright," she stated simply. She glanced back to where her mother had been and knew in her heart that Jillian had not been there. As much as Hannah wished it had been so, she knew it wasn’t. Perhaps her mind had put Mrs. Abbott there as a coping mechanism for the stress that Hannah had been feeling. Maybe she’d feel better in the morning.
