Moving in a few Weeks
I'm moving across the country in a few weeks from a very liberal state to a very conservative state. Even when I was going back and forth to college within the same state, the change in people and general emotions often left me over whelmed and in need of a lot of alone time, sleep, and adjustment.
I know a period of adjustment is going to happen, but I'm looking for a way to ease this. There is enough for me to deal with without being overwhelmed by other people's feelings. I was wondering if anyone had any techniques, advice, or thoughts on how I can make this transition as emotionally and mentally easy for me as possible.
Thanks and sorry for any x posting that goes on.

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Where to start..well for a while I was into the empath thing and I have a knack for predicting things so I'm familiar with these things a bit. Well I decided I would join here to learn more since I keep getting pushed back in this direction it seems...
Lately I've noticed that when I sign onto AIM and a certain person is on, almost immediately I feel sick to my stomach and what's worse is most of the time I actually do get sick. It was really bad last week, my Mom had to come home to check on me it was so bad. I was fine the whole day until I tried talking to a friend, then all the sudden I felt really really sick. Does this make any sense? Is this part of being an Empath? If I even am one?
It happened just a few minutes ago, it was someone different but it's like getting a bad stomach ache when just a few seconds ago you were fine. I haven't had any problems with any of my friends recently so I can rule that one out. Is it just me, or is there anything I can do to make this better? This used to happen to me a couple years ago but I thought it was just me. I'm not sure. Anyway before this gets too long I'll go for now.
If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Current Mood: sick

Stones & Crystals
I thought I’d compile a list of gemstones that I’ve found really useful in dealing with overwhelming emotions. Remember to smudge and cleanse them, if anyone needs an explanation of that, feel free to message.( Click Me )
Intent is one of the most important things with having stones for protection and healing. You can have the stones absorb positive energy and continually recharge them with such.
If anyone else has stones & crystals that they use for emotional healing/protection, please share. ^__^

Okay, I'm rather new to being an empath and am struggling to control it. The negative emotions I get from others is really draining me and I'm finding it difficult to protect myself from such people - especially a bully I work with. It makes me feel so tired... I just want to sleep all the time and have no energy. Does anyone else experience this? And does anyone have any tips on what I can do? I'm finding that carrying black tourmaline is a great help, but beyond that I'm not really sure of what to do. Current Mood: drainedCurrent Music: Evanescence

Music & Empathy
Music is healing and to an empath, their favorite type of music can be their best friend.
I've found that the resonance of music within the body can have positive healing effects.
The next time you listen to your favorite song, soundtrack, or ambient noise (ex: rainfall, waterfall, etc) - feel the music vibrate within you.
Feel it expanding out from within you, causing interference with any foreign emotions that may be hovering around your shields. (For those familiar with chakras, feel the music in each of the energy centers, gradually surrounding you)
It can do wonders to soothe you and even if you're not listening to the music in person, you can hum it in your head or sing it aloud and the results can be quite therapeutic.
Immerse yourself in the music and be the conductor of your own shields.
(This is especially helpful to those who are more auditory than visual)

Protecting Your Computer Workspace
Because of various degrees of drama and news that we receive from the Internet, sensitives often are affected. Energy is very much like electricity and can travel via an electric current through the computer to you.
This applies to emotions that we receive from others (from reading journal entries, emails, news stories, conversations in IM, etc.) and the emotions that are triggered because of it.
I’ve seen too many people hurt and affected to the point of being crippled – so I’ve taken measures to further protect my workspace and decided to share it in this community.( Stones and Crystals are your friends )( Cut cords from situations )( Smudging )( Candles )( Charging Items with Positive Energy and Emotions )( Water )Note:
With all of the above, intention is key.
If you intend your workspace to be cleansed with the above tools (by praying, meditating, asking higher powers, etc) – it will be done so.~*~
I hope that these tips prove to be of use to many of you. If anyone else has any other techniques or items they use around their workspace, please comment and share. ^___^ Current Mood: hopeful

Grounding & Protecting (Shielding)
I'd like to share with everyone my personal grounding and protecting exercise. An outline of this was given to me by a shamanic acquaintance online and I've since personalized it with the assistance of my guides. It's morphed through time, but the basics have helped me beyond measure.
There was a point where I G&Ped every morning, night, before I went out places, etc. Now I will do it if I feel energies pressing against me or if I do energy or healing work. At this point, my shields are self-sustaining and I clean/bolster them every now and again.( Grounding )( Protecting ) Current Mood: hopefulCurrent Music: Maneki Neko - 'Auracle'
Fire can be a powerful cleanser, burning away toxic thoughts or substances. It can also be utilized to create a shield around you, burning away any emotions that are not yours, turning difficult situations into ash.
With each of these meditations I recommend having a source of flame near you, if you prefer to further connect with the fire element. If you’re highly sensitive, you’ll feel the energy emanating from the fire. If you’re connected to the fire, you will feel it steadily working with you.
I’ve used candles with healing and the fire element is strong with them. I love working with them and use them in cleansings of my home, objects, and of my body.
The great thing about them is that you can choose your favorite scent or color to use.
If you’re in an area where you can build a bonfire, by all means do so safely and try the meditations. ^__~( Fire Meditation One )( Fire Meditation Two ) Current Mood: contemplative

I found this article when searching for shower meditations/cleansings. I do one every time I take a shower and they're beyond helpful when empathy is overwhelming (or if I just need to destress).( Shower Your Cares Away )
If you try the meditation, let us know how it works for you.
Does anyone else do similar?
I do and cleanse my chakras as well. ^__^

Empathy & Energy at the Zoo
A few days ago I went to the zoo with my friends. The amount of people there was staggering, especially the number of children on day trips. The energy of that many children in one area was astounding and I felt rather buzzed by it, becoming exhausted energy-wise later. Does anyone else perceive the energy difference when it comes to children? Especially excitable children in large groups? *laughs*
Then again, I was also reaching out to various animals with Reiki and communing with some via empathy, so that would also lead to my energy fatigue. ^__~
With my Reiki and empathy, I connected with various animals
: Butterflies, birds, a type of monkey, gorillas, seals, lungfish, peacocks, a horse, eagles, and most especially monitor lizards.
I’ve been able to connect empathically with a variety of domesticated animals, such as dogs and especially cats and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced similar with a pet or another animal? Current Mood: thoughtful

You wouldn't think I'd be a good candidate for any level of empathy, much less the hypertrophied kind, but it is.
To most people, 'empathy' is mostly an abstract idea representing their ability to recognise and understand other people's emotions.
To me, it's rather like my sense of smell. Emotions swirl in the air, miasmic, clouds of information, energy-molecules just like my nose picks up matter-molecules. I can't see them, I can't detect them any other way, but I pick them up nonetheless.
When I was five years old, my very first psychologist called me an 'emotional sponge', and said it was impossible to hide anything from me.
I don't know how it works, or why I am this way. It just is, I guess.
Oh. And I'm Jack. Hi. :p
As the maintainer/moderator of this asylum I’d like to extend a warm welcome to everyone who peruses the cove.
Feel free to join and post stories, questions, advice, etc.
Discussion is encouraged as are introductory posts. ^___^A little about me
I’ve been empathic and highly sensitive all my life, but it wasn’t until a few years ago when I learned the term ‘empath.’ Upon learning about Grounding & Protecting and that the empathic ability can be harnessed, I set about learning as much as I could to help myself first and then others.
I am also an Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master Practitioner, versed in hands-on and distance healing. I use my empathy to aid me in my healing.
So, to start off, has anyone else found constructive ways to utilize their empathy? Current Mood: happy
