Not that I don't like waltzing

It pulled as the wolf did just before the moon, wearing at the barriers he'd so diligently built. He held Harry when he cried and sat silent while Harry screamed--blaming Dumbledore, Snape, even Remus before settling always on himself. He let Molly chatter as they worked through the house, moving personal items out of sight. For Harry, she said. So much better for Harry.

At night he crept into Sirius' chambers, breathing deep, struggling against the pull. He mourned in bits, carefully placed to avoid notice. When he finally broke, there was nothing left but anger and dull longing.

Breach

It had never been a special day for them, not as it was for others. Even before Azkaban, Sirius was disinclined toward mad, romantic gestures, and Remus was wise enough to keep his proclivities to himself. In the years after Sirius had returned, the day simply passed like any other, rendered insignificant by distance and dark prophesies.

Molly's invitation had come as a surprise, giving way to discomfort as discussion of table settings turned slyly to the question of Who Else Would Be There.

Remus stared blankly the roll of pink parchment, his cup of tea growing cold beside it.

Man of Constant Sorrow

It was a fresh, young sound, more soothing than he was prepared to think about, and he lowered his eyes to steady himself against what he should not have. Could not have, he reminded himself, almost as a comfort. Grief was like a shield these days, and he held it out before him, defending desperately against the flash of pink hair and the soft, low tones, more lilting than he'd have imagined, considering the source. She winked then, and he forced a smile, turning quickly back to the dark, hungry eyes ever-present in his mind, cursing his own inconstancy.
