* The Smell of Sunlight by lisan, Mushishi, gen. t reads just like an episode of the anime, and is so beautifully crafted, it brought me to tears by the end. It features Ginko (of course), with a bit of Tanyuu at the beginning and end, and it is just beautiful.
*Marginalia by Katharos, Mushishi, reads like an episode of the series (the fandom really lends itself to this, I'd think), and though the author probably should have had it checked for typos before it was submitted, it moved me as well. I found the mushi in this story particularly interesting.
Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair by hackthis, Heroes, Candice, Mr. Linderman, gen. First, hackthis and I had this conversation about Candice on Heroes. And then, she posted this. So awesome. Just so freakin' great. *love*
After Winter Must Come Spring (Alice/Lucy, Iron Jawed Angels) by marginalia. I have not even seen this movie, and I could not help myself from being sucked in. So pretty and warm and gah.
Ducks in the Bathtub and Life is a One-Way Street, and If You Could Paint it, I'd Draw Myself Going in the Right Direction by hackthis. Heroes, Nathan, Peter, gen. Probably the same universe, but neither of them requires the other to make sense. I'm especially enamored with the second of these (the one with the really long name), but the first one has a picture baby ducks at the end, so really it's a wash.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy Valentine's Day, a Fantastic Fourth, and a Rockin' Cinco de Mayo, Betty Suarez! (Ugly Betty, Betty/Daniel) ~ I'm not sure I'm ready yet to see Betty and Daniel together as they are in some of the further future sections of this fic (I like my suspense to be brutal), but the not-quite-together sections are so perfectly on, I couldn't keep myself from reading them over a few times. I *heart* Betty. Yes I do.
Landed (With Strings) (Ice Princess, Gen/Casey) ~ Gen is drawn so perfectly here, I can see and hear her as though it was playing out in front of me. I'm a little confused as to why Casey is in Massachusetts, but maybe there is something I don't know.
Looking on to Spring (Secret Garden, Mary/Dickon/Colin) ~ This is so beautiful, it made me cry. I'm not kidding. The characterizations are exquisite, and every other moment makes me giggle with delight. I am in love with this fic, and you should be too.
Covenant (Zenna Henderson's "The People", Melodye, Karen) ~ I have such a deep love for Zenna Henderson's "People" stories, and I was thrilled to see this on the list. It does not disappoint. The tone is perfect for the source material and the characters are so lovingly written.
Get Where You've Been Going (Entourage, Vince/Eric) ~ This is told from Vince's POV, but the real star here is Eric. He's so perfectly perfect, it's messing with my head. So well done. *love*
Screenwriter's Blues (Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, Neil Patrick Harris-centric) ~ There aren't adequate words for this. I'll just leave you with the comments I left for the author: "I bow to you, o great one. I bask in your awesomeness. Oh, the love for this, oh the LOVE."
The Epiphanies of Dan Jarvis (Wilby Wonderful, Dan/Duck) ~ This is beautiful and quiet and just absolutely right for this universe and these characters. I am head over heels for this fic. So. Lovely.
You Can Be Mean and I'll Drink All the Time (Heroes, Nathan, Hiro, PG-13) by hackthis. It took me forever to get around to reading this, and WHY I ask?? I told Zahra that she has the same knack as the show's writers for making me like Nathan no matter how hard I try not to, and I repeat this to you because it is JUST SO TRUE. The character's voices are spot on and the scene slips seamlessly into canon. So. Great.
Same Time, Next Year by emmagrant01 (BTVS/AtS, Buffy/Angel). If you're like me, you 'shipped Buffy/Angel like it was your own gorgeous, doomed, teenage dream come to life for the first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you are me, you never quite gave that up. It is with this not-so-secret love in my heart that I rec this to you, written for this year's I Will Remember You Fic Marathon. It's a lovely story set in some of the same locations as her H/D epic, Left My Heart, and I think she captures something really nice by taking them there. If you remember those glorious and angsty Monday and (later) Tuesday nights with as much fondness as I do, give yourself a little holiday gift and click.
As We Are, Or How Lloyd Saves the Day (Again) by hackthis (Entourage). A wonderful treat for us Entourage fans, waiting anxiously (desperately? pathetically?) for the next episode which is soooo far away. It is awesome and must be read.
as long as trees are skying by marginalia, (Anne of Green Gables, Firefly, Harry Potter, and BTVS/ATS) Multifandom, multipairing. For femslash05. Each character is utterly perfect, and when you see how many there are, and which in particular, you'll be as impressed as I was.
the great cereal master-mind by Amand-r, (BTVS), the most hysterical and perfect Andrew fic.
Everything Looks Perfect From Far Away by jacito, Dead Poets Society, Neil/Todd, PG. The few times Jaci has written this pairing make me want her to write them all day long. This made my heart just ache. Gorgeous, melancholy and hopeful. Also, short. WAH.
Where there is no miscommunication because nothing has been said, Dead Poets Society, by niche. I am slain.
What You Do For Your Friends by hackthis. Entourage fic, Eric/Vince. My friends, if you are at all interested in this fandom, and you saw the most recent episode, you must read. I feel an OTP coming on.
A Million Light Years from Home by musesfool, HP/Firefly, Sirius, ensemble, gen, PG. This should not work at all as far as I'm concerned, but it so very much does. I haven't gotten into a lot of Firefly fic, despite my enormous love for the 'verse. This may have to change.
About a Girl by mollita, Firefly, River/Mal, PG-13-ish. I was sketchy on the pairing at first, and even when I got to it, it squicked me, but the ending turned me around. The whole fic reads like River in a way that almost makes it difficult to read, but I think she's absolutely perfect. I am much with the liking.
Aube by Diantiquarian, Jane Eyre, Jane/Helen, beautifully written and quite sad. I believe so strongly in Jane/Rochester and am so in love with the canon, that I didn't think I'd be able to get interested in fanfic, especially with a non-canon pairing, but when I think about it, I'm not so sure it's non-canon. I think that Helen is the first person Jane ever loved, and possibly the one she loved best, at least until she met Mr. Rochester, so I'm able to buy this, at least on her part. It's difficult to see Helen as someone who would be interested in such worldly pursuits, but still I found this compelling.
When You Grow Up, Your Heart Dies by alejandra, My So Called Life, Rayanne, with Rayanne/Angela overtones. So perfectly in the voice of the character, this just rang true to me. All the characterizations are amazingly done, and it just made me more glad that I got the dvds of this series for Christmas. This could have been part of an episode, easily.
Peter in Love by Tosca, The Chronicles of Narnia, Peter/Aslan (really). Wow. Just. Yeah. Oh, and read the postscript, it enhances the "wow". Possibly my favorite of this yuletide group.
The Case of Kings by Lar, The Breakfast Club, Bender/Andrew. Mostly just really depressing, but very well-written and kinda perfect.
A Midnight Clear by Byob, Grosse Pointe Blank, Martin/Paul. Very believable explanation for Martin's decision to leave town on the day of the Prom. Again, depressing, but rings true. The actual Martin/Paul moment is weirdly sweet.
Tidings of Comfort and Joy by marginalia, Master and Commander, Jack/Stephen. Delicate and beautiful... it made my heart skip. For real.
After the Dragon by prillalar, Narnia, Caspian/Eustace, PG. Part of Boy Kissage week. So beautiful and heart-melty. Exactly what I needed.
Wings for Icarus by reenka, Peter Pan, Peter is... kind of how I would imagine he'd end up. Broken. Still Peter. It wants to be read. So. Yeah.
salt up the stem by marginalia , POTC, Norrington/Jack/Elizabeth, PG-13-ish. Talk about gorgeous. I don't even read fic in this fandom, and I was carried away.
My Name is Inigo Montoya by hackthis, Spiderman 2 (movie-verse). Dudes. It's Harry/Peter. And. Ow. I would follow her into almost any fandom I have a clue about at all.
Circle by penknife Anakin Skywalker (also Anakin/Padme), really brought to mind for me all the ways the most recent three films could have succeeded and did not. Anyway, it's very rich and lovely, and I was very glad to have read it. (Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith)
Holding On by serialkarma. Wilby Wonderful, Duck/Dan. This follows perfectly after the film, I think. My brain has already adopted it as canon. I love it.
You'll get no regrets from me, by marginalia, Wilby Wonderful, Duck/Dan.
Dom/Oz series by marginalia, LOTR RPS/BTVS. This is one of my favorite fic series' of all time. She created her own fandom with this, and I have followed faithfully.
* fic just added
