Incidents at sea
What: A scene at the docks.
Where: Pier 39, The Docks of Emillion.
When: Afternoon.
Rating: G
Philip Lanstrum, the dock master, has begun pacing along Pier 39. His normal cool composure and well kept demeanor appears to be cracking. Philip's clothing, which is standardly pressed and ironed, has wrinkles in it and looks as if it's on its second day of wear. A hand digs down deep into one fold of fabric, retrieving an aged, but carefully tended, pocket watch. Pressing a button pops open the front of the watch, revealing the time and a frustrated exhale is accompanied by a hand scrubbing over the scruff and stubble that's begun to mar his normally clean shaven chin and jawline. "Another one missing." The words are low, muttered and his brow has begun to crease with worry lines. It's rare when such a look, or even state, can be dragged forth from him and the watch is clicked shut, being dropped back into the pocket it was retrieved from moments before. The ship was supposed to arrive hours ago and there has been no sight, nor sound from it regardless of how many contact methods have been tried. Philip has even hired an airship to track the ships course, trying to find any hint of what's happened and yet, there is still nothing. This is the sixth ship in the past few weeks that has gone missing and it's made the sailors and the dock workers antsy, even if they have managed to keep the rumors null and hide the worry across their faces. There are regular glances of uncertainty, worry and unease amongst the workers now, unlike the assuredness they shared not long before. Philip's right hand man approaches slowly, trying to read the body language of the dock master before speaking. The signs given off only cause the second man to frown and Philip gives a nod, his hand rising high enough to signal the other man to only venture as far as he needs to. Without looking up, solemn words fall from dry lips. "Notify the merchants. There will be no shipment today." |
