What: Archery lesson.
Where: Shieldwyrm Hall
When: This afternoon around 4PM
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete.
An hour before he had agreed to meet Cressida for training, Pyr headed down to the armory at Lindwyrm Hall and asked to borrow a bow. The armorer gave him a blank look and asked for a bunch of other details, such as if he needed right- or left-handed equipment (his right hand was predominant, Pyr said; that had nothing to do with it, said the armorer), what draw-weight he used (Pyr had no idea) and, seeing the confusion on Pyr's face, shook his head and said, "Total beginner, aren't you?" At Pyr's nod, the man launched into a barrage of explanations so comprehensive, Pyr felt like he'd had his archery lesson even before reaching the range. The armorer had him stretch out his arm and lift his index finger and, focusing on his nail, move his hand toward his face. Pyr wondered if this was some sort of mockery to make fun of newcomers, but he did as he was told and, when his hand was close enough that the back of it touched his face, he realized his finger was in front of his left eye. Seeing this, the armorer declared him left-handed and gave him a bow that didn't look very impressive at all, and showed him how to assemble and disassemble it. Then he gave Pyr a quiver with half a dozen arrows inside, and wished him luck, and sent him on his way. Pyr left the armory not quite sure what had happened, and made his way to Shieldwyrm Hall in a daze. He hadn't been around long enough to know his way around every guildhall, but he saw a guy in light armor jogging on the training grounds and asked for directions. With a word of thanks, Pyr followed the guy's instructions and walked for a good five minutes until he saw the archery range. It was empty, but then again, it was still early. There was still a good twenty minutes left until four, so he sat on the ground and tried to see if he could remember the proper way to disassemble and assemble the bow while he waited for Cressida. |
