The ire of certain citizens of Emillion toward the Mages Guild was no sudden thing. Unrest had built for quite some time, the worries of the common people having not been entirely addressed or alleviated, and so the events which transpired that morning should have come as little surprise. It was only by the pity of Faram, perhaps, that events did not take an absolute turn for the worse. A congregation of protesters had formed near the entrance of the Mages Tower, people voicing their dissatisfaction with the guild. Relaying their opinions to all who were around to listen, the group grew to a slightly larger and intimidating number by the time Sunday services were finished, and as guild members sought to return to the Tower, they quickly found their way was now blocked. Anger seethed, but before the crowd got too far out of hand, the EKP that had been posted diligently for watch nearby had sprung up to extinguish the argument. The crowd was thick with protesters, mages, and onlookers alike, but few appeared eager to challenge the peacekeepers that day, and while the loudest and angriest found themselves hauled back to the EKP offices, the only signs later that day that anything so unpleasant had happened, were unfortunate marks of graffiti blasted against the Tower entrance. "MAGES GET OUT," it said in sloppy red paint, an ugly mark of unpleasantness against the guild. Paint and patient toil would surely do to wash the event from memory, but the feelings of the citizens would hang in the air for some time. |
