Who: Everyone!
What: A royal fete.
Where: The Palace of Lions.
When: Today.
Rating: Mark as necessary.
Many of those prone to spreading gossip had speculated that the catalyst for planning such an extravagant royal fete were the many troubles which had plagued the city. Another attempt to soothe the concerns of those of influence and great power, and even the common citizens as well, it no less proved to serve as an adequate form of distraction by the unique wonders the King had sought to provide. Guests arriving to the Palace of Lions had been ushered to the enfilade of celebration halls positioned at the westernmost wing of the palace. Those of common blood were sent to the first hall, and even this room provided splendors of which could hardly be seen elsewhere in the city. From the grand crystal chandeliers, to the centuries-old sculptures and tapestries crafted by master artists, to the great painted mural celebrating the deeds of kings and conquerors of ancient times which decorated the ceiling above, few could argue the singular opportunity of being allowed entrance into even a small section of the palace. The silent presence of the Kingsguard could be seen lingering near the walls and entrances, keeping watch should anyone try to disrupt the festivities. Many foreigners mingled among the familiar citizens of Emillion, from noble knights of Kerwon in gleaming armor, to prestigious mages of Ordalia and beyond. Merchants looking to mingle and businessmen eager to find new opportunities moved from one crowd to the next, making pleasant conversation and shaking hands with those who looked important. Travelers from all across Ivalice had come to the fete, and these included bards and entertainers as well. The first hall enjoyed a varied troupe of musicians and singers, providing music from as far away as the Sako Islands, while colorful mummers roamed about the audience to allow for a humorous spectacle. Chefs and culinary masters had been hired to provide a feast as glorious extravagant and diverse as the rest of the entertainment, and only the most well-traveled of visitors could attempt to recognize each and every food and drink. Those of noble blood were sent to the second hall, where a stage had set for nimble ballet dancers, an orchestra of master musicians and singers of great renown to perform throughout the fete. Parliament members and prominent figures of government wandered back and forth from the furthest hall, the place where King Weyland IV and visiting royals resided, from time to time, offering reassuring whispers of potential new laws and regulations designed to keep further dangers from occurring. Judge Magister Royse lingered around the edges of the room as well, taking interest in the company of a perturbed looking Grand Inquisitor from time to time, who had little to say herself save for a litany of terse dismissals. The political body of Emillion was in full force, or so it had appeared. These were not the only wonders provided, however. As those traveling to the halls were allowed supervised access to a portion of the royal gardens, a gallery of intricate ice sculptures had been formed along the path, each of them forged by the magicks of powerful mages and designed in the striking shapes of ferocious monsters, gallant heroes and beautiful maidens alike. Certainly, there were more than enough distractions provided for anyone who attended the fete to forget their concerns for one day. |
