Nay, if our wits run the wild-goose chase, I am done....

The wooden cart rolled along the path rattling and creaking with each uneven bit of road laid out before it. The chocobos continued with a series of warks and clucks whilst pulling the owner, and the contents of the cart along regardless of the noise or shaking that an unsteady wheel seemed to make towards the city of Emillion. They weren't far out now! With that realization, the cart driver smiled, and couldn't help the relived sigh that escaped his lips. It'd been days since he'd been able to obtain a good solid night's rest and it would be nice to off load the random goods and domesticated Cockatrices off to their proper owners. Faram knew he'd heard enough of their ruckus in the last few days of transporting them. Unfortunately, it wasn't an unusual request with one of the Ivalice famous cockatrice breeders being only a ways out from the city, yet, the driver couldn't help but try to find an upside. At least, even if he didn't care for the creatures, it was regular work. Stopping at the gate for a quick cart inspection, it would seem like perhaps the day was looking up for the worn and hungry driver. With a crack of the reins, the chocobos began to move forward once again, and the driver revealed in the idea of only being minutes away from unloading his haul. Well, at least…. That was until the cart hit a particularly nasty pot hole and the wheel that had merely been somewhat unsteady not even an hour before busted right off, the axle of the cart breaking instantly under the strain and toppling the crates of domesticated cockatrice, and other assorted items and pets into the streets of Emillion and around the North Gate. Scrambling from his seat, the man attempted to gather the creatures but as quickly as the crates broke, they swiftly attempted to flee from their confines. Unfortunately, it would seem this job wasn't going to be as easy as the driver had thought as he watched various cockatrice skitter and sprint in all directions. Surely, they could be all around the city before long and he'd be in nothing but the utmost trouble with his patrons. "100 gil for each one found! Tell your friends! I need all thirty of them back tonight!" Certainly, someone would help with his plea. |
