Notes: A teenyfic gift for

swtalmnd, who requested sweet Harry/Neville with awkwardness.
The first time Harry and Neville kiss, it's because they know that Seamus has kissed a girl and because they both want to kiss someone and because it hasn't ever occurred to either of them that boys shouldn't kiss boys. They are twelve years old and snow is drifting outside and the rest of their dorm-mates are in the common room warming themselves by the fire. Harry and Neville are conspiring on their Potions essays, lying on Neville's bed together, shoulders touching in a way they haven't yet learned isn't a way boys touch. Boys shouldn't lie close with other boys.
Harry laughs gently at something Neville has said and turns his head and sort of blinks, and Neville blinks, too, and he blurts that Seamus kissed a girl from Hufflepuff, and Harry says he knows. Neville looks at Harry's lips and Harry looks at Neville's and shrugs and leans in.
Neville's lips are dry and his breath is warm and his eyes are closed, and Harry wonders if he should close his eyes, too. He thinks that lips on lips is nice, and he wonders why the older students he's seen kissing have to put all that tongue and spit into it.
He pulls away and smiles at Neville with half-closed eyes and Neville smiles back. They decide that that was nice and maybe they can do it again. Maybe they can do it again right now, even.
So they do, but Ron comes in and he looks and them and makes a face. Neville and Harry pull apart.
"Boys shouldn't kiss boys," Ron says, and he stomps over to his trunk and starts rooting through it.
"Oh," says Harry softly, and he and Neville start working on their essays again.
Harry still wants to kiss some more, though, and when Ron leaves, it turns out that so does Neville.
