Drabble meme!
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays.
You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble
You start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Unsurprisingly, mine are all Weasley-centric. Surprisingly, they are all low-rated!

1. Girlfriend is Better, Talking Heads

"Penny's better than I am," Percy declared out loud to himself in the mirror. He believed it. He did. She managed to strike that balance between smart and fun that he could somehow never find. She abided by the rules, but she never got accused of having a stick up her arse.

Then again, she didn't have Fred and George as brothers, so maybe that made a difference.

Percy sighed and picked up his comb again and finished parting his hair, then took up his shining Prefect badge from the bureau and pinned it to his robes just so, and polished it with his sleeve though it didn't really need polishing. It was the last thing he did before he left the dormitory every morning--a reminder that he was good, too, no matter what his brothers told him.

2. Same In Any Language, I Nine

"Hi," Charlie said, raising his hand and dropping his knapsack on the bed. His roommate looked up from underneath dark, heavy eyebrows with a grunt.

"Um. Charlie Weasley," he said, crossing to the man--Alex, he'd been told--and holding out his hand. Alex shook it after just long enough a pause to convey that he couldn't possibly be less interested.

Charlie twisted his mouth up and turned to begin unpacking. He'd thought the dragon handlers would be more like himself, but so far he'd only met two besides his boss Marina, and both had been equally unfriendly.

He pulled out a lumpy packet his mum must have squashed into his knapsack just before he left, and he heard footsteps behind him.

"Biscuits?" Alex grunted.

Charlie turned and smiled and opened the package.

"From my mum," he said, and Alex nodded and smiled and reached for one.

3. Hell, Squirrel Nut Zippers

Percy always told his brothers they would regret their actions. He had heard his mum say the word--regret, regret--such a good word in his mouth, such a good word to growl at Bill and Charlie when they were shoving each other or being bad examples for the twins. You'll regret regret regret it, he would say, but Bill and Charlie would only laugh at him and tease the twins even more and bang them on the head and get dirty and all sorts of things that they would regret.

Percy growled out the rrr and patted Fred's hair and George's hair but the twins would just laugh and laugh and Percy tried another word that he'd once heard his dad say, and he said damn damn damn and Charlie's eyes went wide and Bill laughed and then Percy was in trouble and it wasn't fair.

4. Angel Band, Stanley Brothers

When Fred died, he wondered if he would see the angels he'd once heard about. Wizards didn't believe in angels, but he'd been to a Muggle church once with George when they'd fancied that set of sisters from the village and followed them in, and Fred had been fascinated by the concept of angels.

But there weren't any radiant men or women with flowing hair floating down to carry him away. There was only laughter, then falling, then blackness.

And then. A railway station.

5. One Down, Ben Folds

When Percy arrived at work, he realised it was Saturday. Not until then. He sighed and went around to the weekend entrance, deciding that as long as he was there and dressed and everything he might as well stay at least for the morning.

He sat at his desk slogging through piles of paper, getting more done than he might have done on a regular work day as there were fewer interruptions.

At noon, he thought vaguely about finding something to eat, but instead he spent a full quarter of an hour with his chin in his hand wishing he had a reason to go back home--someone waiting in a dressing gown and slippers to laugh with him about how he'd accidentally gone in on a Saturday.

He rationalised with himself that it could have been worse--he could be a busboy or a garbage collector who went into work on the wrong day and had to spend the whole day filthy.

At least he could spend tomorrow at home.

6. Grace Kelly, Mika

Percy wanted to scream at Harry sometimes. Why don't you like me? Why don't you like me? He thought he could be almost anything for Harry--could be less uptight, less fussy, less whatever it was that made Harry turn away and laugh with another redhead.

You should be with me, he wanted to shout at the boy, but ultimately Harry was preoccupied, and Percy would have to deal with that.

He shrugged on his cloak and licked his lips and cast his eyes downwards so he didn't have to watch Harry making eyes at Ginny.

"Harry," he said to the floor, "I'm leaving."

7. I Am A Rock, Simon and Garfunkel

Outside Percy's window, London was shrouded in snow. He blinked at its brightness and sighed, never before so grateful for the four walls of his flat. It was Sunday, and he had the whole day to himself.

Of course, recently he'd had every day to himself, most especially Sundays. He'd solidified that by sending back his mum's sweater and by cutting off contact with Penny.

He had books and tea and Hermes in his flat, warm blankets and a comfortable bed, and he could spend all day reading if he liked, alone.

He tried to convince himself that it was all very cosy, instead of very lonely.

8. Twisting, They Might Be Giants

"Ginny's going to kill you," Percy murmured against Harry's hair. "You do realise that, don't you?" He dropped a trail of kisses down Harry's neck, marvelling at the feel of this boy in his arms, the boy he'd wanted--craved--for longer than he could remember.

"Probably," Harry murmured back, embracing Percy harder, "But right now I don't actually care."

9. Summertime, Janis Joplin

Arthur had just received a raise at the Ministry, and when he rushed home to tell Molly, she was aglow with the news that she was pregnant again.

"Four children!" he crowed. "And maybe, Mollywobbles, maybe a little girl this time!" He nearly knocked her down with his hug, and the two of them laughed and the babies all joined in the laughter, too, where they sat on the grass eating biscuits and drinking lemonade.

And then Percy upset his cup and began to wail, and Molly and Arthur let go of each other to tend to their brood. Arthur caught Molly's eye as she was dabbing lemonade from the baby's lap and he winked at her there in the late August sunshine, and nothing was more beautiful than that moment.

10. Love Is All Around, R.E.M. (cover)

The answer had been there all along, eating Sunday dinners at the Burrow, trailing down the corridors at school (god, so long ago) after Harry and Ron. Neville was the sort of person that made Percy want to slow down, calm down, make promises and keep them.

And the amazing part was that Neville felt that way about Percy, too. Only Neville didn't need to slow down, calm down, and he was already good at keeping promises.

Percy thought that as long as Neville held him like he did, everything would be all right.

Great drabbles (and of course I'd expect all of them to be about the Weasleys, especially Percy *g*).

Fred's was my favorite. The ending killed me - it hit me with the reality of the afterlife for wizards...

Oh, lovely -- all of them, but I especially like #7 because of that heart-twistingness, plus I grew up loving that song. ♥ Wish I had time to do this meme, maybe someday!

Thank you! ♥

I did it as a reward to myself for finally finishing my Springsmut. Which makes no sense at all--writing as a reward for writing? Heh.

Bahaha, I know, right? I'm so wild and unpredictable!

It really was fun! I want to do the meme again already! It's a real challenge and I have to admit to skipping a couple of songs I didn't know well because it was good to know when the ending was approaching so I could wrap things up.
