Forgetting (Remus/Ron, R)
Title: Forgetting
Pairing: Remus/Ron
Rating: R
Word Count: 213
Warnings: AU, mentions of character death (not Remus or Ron).
Disclaimer: Not mine. JKR's.
Summary: They both remember. They help each other forget.
Notes: An Advent Drabble for [info]nathaniel_hp, who requested Remus/Ron, "memories".

Remus remembers hair that was never this red, remembers leaning down instead of stretching up for kisses, remembers a lilting laugh quite unlike Ron's throaty chuckle. But those are gone, and now when someone trips coming down the hallway, it's Ron, carrying in tea things and swearing just as vividly as Tonks once did.

Ron remembers hair that was thick instead of fine, remembers leaning down much further for kisses, remembers an enthusiasm quite unlike Remus's steady understanding. But those are gone, and now when someone's paging through a book in front of the fire, it's Remus, shifting and sighing and pushing his reading glasses up on his nose as Hermione never did.

Everything was ordinary again before they found each other, death and loss having become facts upon which one did not dwell except perhaps in solitary times.

But now there are fewer of those painful times, for they both have someone with whom to forget, someone to tangle with in the sheets, and it's in the forgetting that they're both the most alive again, Remus gripping slim hips, Ron tugging at thinning hair, gasping against each other's throats and chests and shoulders. And after—after—they cling to each other, for they each know and trust that the other is alive.

That was simply beautiful! So bittersweet, yet with such a hopeful and happy ending. How lovely!

♥ Very much like this... the emotions are beautifully true and the parallel structure is lovely.

I've always been intrigued by this pairing, but this is a really fresh take on why they would work. Nice!

Thank you! This is one of the best pairings for angst fic, I think. :)

How lovely. :)
So sad that they lost people they love, but sweet that they found each other. *cuddles them*

So sad and yet there's so much comfort there.

Yes, indeed--I liked having them find comfort in each other after they've both lost so much.

Oh sweetheart, thank you! This is wonderful! I love bittersweetness!

and now when someone trips coming down the hallway, it's Ron, carrying in tea things and swearing just as vividly as Tonks once did.
Hee, swearing Tonks and clumsy Ron :-))

Interesting that they both have heterosexual relationships before they find each other. But then again, Remus never really loved Tonks, or did he? ;-)

This little ficlet is so much more satisfying than the marzipan I had in my advent calendar this morning!

You're so welcome! *huge grin*

You know, in my mind, Remus/Tonks pretty much doesn't exist, so it was difficult for me to write them into this fic. Hee. But maybe, somehow, in this universe, he did, just a little. Just enough. But Ron's the right one for him after all. *snuggles them*

So glad you liked it!

Oh, this is lovely. I adore the comparisons at the beginning, especially the image of Ron tripping down the hallway. *sigh* *clings to them both*

I find it more bittersweet than sweet, with a distinct touch of sadness and regret, but very beautiful all the same. This is one pairing I adore, but so pitifully rare!

Thanks for making my night with this little gem :).

Thank you so much! Yes, it's definitely bittersweet--they had to lose a lot in order to find each other. It truly is a far-too-rare pairing, and one I always forget to request in exchanges and such.

♥!
