Notes: An Advent Drabble for
florahart who requested Percy/Draco, going to rescue your idiot ex at one in the morning in sub-freezing temperatures.
The taxi glided along the snow-shrouded streets, and Percy sat huddled in the back seat, his eyes scanning the pavement. Finally, his gaze landed on a lone figure huddled in a doorway, and he sat forward.
"There," he said, breaking the silence, "Right there."
The taxi driver slowed to a stop. Draco stepped hesitantly from his shelter, his cloak wrapped tightly around him. Percy made no move to signal Draco, merely waited while the fare ticked higher. Finally, Draco approached the taxi, peered inside, and, seeing Percy, opened the door and got in.
Percy could sense Draco was looking at him, so he looked steadfastly forward as the driver propelled the cab away from the curb, taking to the streets once again.
"A left here," Percy directed. He plucked at his cloak, very aware of the pyjamas he was wearing underneath. He felt exposed, but decided he shouldn't, wrapped as he was up to his neck against the winter night.
"Where are we going?" Draco said finally. Percy allowed himself a small sigh. He should've known he wouldn't get thanked for this mission.
"I'm dropping you at your flat," Percy replied, deliberately keeping his voice neutral, "And then I am going back home, to my flat, to my bed."
"Oh," said Draco, then he leaned toward Percy just a bit. Percy caught the movement out of the corner of his eye and flinched, though he wished he hadn't.
"I thought—well, thought I might come over."
Percy didn't think this was even worth a response. "Take a right," he directed the driver, "And the next left."
Draco put a hand on Percy's wrist for the briefest of moments before pulling away and settling into his own corner of the cab.
"You're the only person I know who has a telephone," he mumbled.
"It doesn't matter," Percy replied automatically as the cab finally reached its destination.
And, he realised, it didn't anymore.
