Title: No Regrets Fandom: Lord of the Rings Characters: Feanor/Nerdanel & sons Prompt: 028; Children Word Count: 510 Rating: G Summary: Nerdanel thinks about her life and how it could have been different.
A/N: Rated for PURE FLUFF. Mildly AU... I seriously doubt they had pancakes. But we can pretend, yes?
If anyone were to ask Nerdanel how she thought her life would be as an adult before she had reached her majority and before she had met Feanor, she would have probably said that her time would be spent in the forge beside her father - she wouldn't have considered a husband or a child, let alone seven children. She let out a sigh as she pulled herself out of bed slowly. Her youngest, the twins, had taken a toll on her body that she had yet to recover from even though they were nearly five years old. Righting herself, she wandered over to the mirror opposite of the bed she shared with her husband and eyed herself critically.
In her youth, she hadn't been exceedingly pretty -the only thing about her that hadn’t been plain was her copper hair- but she had possessed a very fine figure. Seven big, healthy sons later, that was no longer the case. Sometimes she secretly wished that she had lived the single, childless life that she had planned on living before Feanor had swept her off her feet.
“Amme, Amme!” Curufin, her fifth child, came bounding into the room. Nerdanel paused a moment to consider how like her husband he looked - raven black hair, smooth pale skin, and piercingly bright eyes. Even at the young age of eight, he had already shown great potential in craftsmanship, a thing that brought Feanor no end in joy. Nerdanel, it seemed, had had some foresight in naming him "little father."
“What is it, little one?” She asked the question gently, not wanting to seem irritated at the interruption of her private thoughts.
“Ada made us all breakfast. He said that we could not eat until you came to the table. I am hungry, Amme! Come on!” He grabbed his mother’s hand and pulled.
Nerdanel allowed herself to be led into the kitchen where her family was gathered. Feanor was walking between the table and the stove dishing out pancakes and setting the table while chatting with Maedhros, her eldest, and Maglor was standing in corner, rocking and singing softly to one of the twins (Amrod, it seemed) while the other, presumably Amras, played with one of their many toys on the floor. Her other two sons, Celegorm and Caranthir, were sitting in their seats and bickering, as they were wont to do.
Curufin sped over to his own seat, crawled up into the chair that was still a bit too tall for him, and proudly announced: “Amme’s here!”
Feanor looked up after setting the last place and flashed one of his brilliant smiles at her. “Excellent,” he said. “Let’s eat!”
Nerdanel paused for a moment in the doorway and considered the scene in front of her for a minute with a small smile on her face. While her dream life would have preserved her looks and not drained the majority of her life force from her, if she had been offered the chance to go back and change it, she wouldn’t. This life, her current life, was perfect.
