Who: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
What: A reunion of sorts.
Where: Hermione's flat.
When: Late Sunday evening.
Rating: Low.
Waiting for Ron to return seemed like an impossible task. Hermione had glanced at the clock a countless number of times since he had left, each time expecting it to be the last few minutes until he came back. It was hard enough to reconcile the idea that there were significantly more Death Eaters free now, let alone the fact that her boyfriend and best friend were supposed to be chasing after them.
Standing around looking lost wasn't achieving anything though, and Hermione forced herself to concentrate on doing something useful. Retreating to her bedroom, she sat down at her desk to continue working on the map that would one day maybe give her more peace of mind. She was still stuck on the location charms, but if anything, she had more motivation than before.
It was there at the desk that she woke up hours later, at first unsure of where she was and what was going on. It didn't take her long to remember, and she immediately glanced at the clock. It had been ten hours since Ron left and he still wasn't back. Running a nervous hand through her hair, she wandered out into the living room, remembering to feed Crookshanks now that he was snaking his way around her legs. Picking up her journal from the coffee table, Hermione flicked through a few pages, not sure what she was hoping to see.
It was obvious that the news had reached most people, courtesy of the Daily Prophet. She hadn't seen the newspaper herself, but all the talk of headlines was a strong hint. It bothered her to see that the Death Eaters were taunting those who had written, but there was also a sense of relief in that if they had time to be sitting around goading people, then they were obviously biding their time when it came to another attack for now. She could only hope that it meant things were okay for Ron and Harry.
The sense of relief didn't last long, Hermione was soon back to worrying again and she put her journal down, not having the heart to reply to anyone. Making herself a cup of tea that she knew was just going to go cold, she went back to her map, only to leave it in frustration again twenty minutes later. Deciding to take a shower to clear or head, or waste time, she didn't even know anymore, Hermione only realised afterward that Ron could have knocked and she wouldn't have even heard him. Opening the front door to check just in case, she was disappointed to find that he wasn't waiting for her on the other side.
It was very possible that she was slowly going mad, but she didn't know what to do about it. Eventually she just sat down on the couch with her copy of Hogwarts: A History and tried not to think.
