Hermione really had been looking forward to the charity ball, so much so that she had managed to talk herself into the unnecessary expense of a new dress. Red seemed an appropriate colour for the festive season, and the only other dresses she owned were all lighter colours that she was afraid may have her blending in with the white scenery.
It certainly seemed worth it when she saw look on Ron's face by any means, and she enjoyed seeing him all dressed up as well. She was hoping that this would be like the Yule Ball she had wanted, but never quite managed to pull off. At least she had the right date this time, and there was always the chance they wouldn't end the night screaming at each other.
The Ministry had been transformed into something beautiful, and Hermione barely recognised it as they walked in. It was quite a sight when coupled with so many people dressed in their finery. Perfectly happy, not even Mr and Mrs Weasley were going to put her off. She insisted on going with Ron when he went to say hello, just in case Mrs Weasley planned to say anything about their new living arrangements. Hermione could have reeled off a dozen reasons why Ron living with her was a good idea, but she didn't need them. Not then, anyway.
Glancing sideways at him as he asked if he had told her she was beautiful again, she leaned across to kiss him on the cheek. "Multiple times," she assured him with a smile.
