Edward blinked when Roy made a motion that clearly said he better pay attention. He grimaced feeling that childish urge to ignore the man, until his gaze fell on the eye patch. Guilt sucker punched him as he swallowed and stepped forward. He couldn't be a little brat about things, not anymore. Too many had paid the price for his foolish mistakes.
"This is your desk Fullmetal, its here you'll handle paperwork and return to as the day progresses." He nodded quietly, fiddling with his white gloves in a nervous fashion. He wasn't used to the uniform that felt heavy and thick despite its loose material. "I know that, Brigadier. I'm not a-" Roy cut him off his voice rising and taking a tone of authority. "I expect you to finish what work I provide you in a timely fashion and to follow my orders. You can't be a child anymore, you have officially enlisted as a member of this military Fullmetal."
He gritted his teeth as the urge to snarl some comeback came and went. The Brigadier went on, his voice lowering slightly as he gestured to the pens and papers already on the desk. "You can't interrupt when orders or instructions are given anymore." Ed sighed as his shoulders sagged and that ancient feeling came back. "...Does it ever get any easier?" Mustang said nothing as he limped to his office, his back straight and imposing.
The newly appointed Major shook his head and climbed into his seat, the cold wood keeping him awake. It reminded him of what he's lost and grief threatened to rise.
