Sad as we are to have such a significant loss of talent, a huge clean out of inactive players/characters who did not respond to my check has just been performed, so please run the f-button here ASAP. Because we lost so many people, if you know of anyone else who may be interested in filling a role, I would appreciate it if we could get back into a more aggressive pimping/promotional campaign once again.

Now, given that we're about a week away from Christmas and all other kinds of holiday shenanigans, plus people are still caught in the midst of that dreaded finals time, we're still not going to force anyone to meet an IC posting requirement just yet. If people do want to continue having threads, you are by all means welcome to keep playing, but for the most part we're currently on pause as far as plot development goes.

However, once people do have more time to spare, there are a few paths we could go with the plot, and this is partially dependent on whether or not we manage to get a few new characters to replace some of the ones we've lost. Under consideration is the possible (and violent) merger of the Athena and Nekhbet crews, which would basically flip everything upside down, but allow for the consolidation of characters, action, and some really, really juicy drama, action, and adventure as they engage in a power struggle. However, this is only off the top of my head and not entirely fleshed out yet -- if anyone thinks this could work, I'd love to have some input.

In general, any ideas you guys have for how we can turn this game around would be stellar. I'm more than happy to work on steering this game in a direction you would like to see it go in. Like I said earlier, my personal job as a mod is more to facilitate reaching your RP and story goals than to dictate them, so any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your patience and your effort! :]

The violent merging of the crews seems like a good option. It would leave the positions on the Corvus still open for filling in case we'd have other players wanting to join.

Agreed. Maybe one or both ships come under attack (if one, the other would be around and respond to the distress call or somehow get inadvertently swept up in the chaos) and one of the ships end up damaged beyond salvage or gets confiscated by the enemy forces? Corvus could be involved? Maybe part of the attacking entity? Or possibly a surprising rescuer if they're facing reevers, perhaps? Hell of a lot of 'or' there (also a lot of speculatives and 'totally don't have to listen to me but here are some ideas anyways'), so enjoy the abuse of conjunctions!

Haha, that was my thought exactly, actually. Tragic as it would be to lose a pretty bird like the Athena, there would be more physical room on board the Nekhbet, though I don't suppose Dalia would be particularly inclined to rescue any stranded passengers, would she? I figure the Nekhbet, in spite of it being a completely badass vessel, could get totaled by a SURPRISEWE'RECRAZY!Reaver ship that comes out of nowhere, and both the crews of the Athena and Corvus get their distress signal. Death and mayhem is always a fun way to get rid of some inactive/abandoned characters. :P

Maybe Athena gets there first, and being the more benevolent crew, decides to rescue those still left on the Nekhbet? The Alliance crew arrives at the same time, so there's a brief skirmish and standoff before they realize they're outnumbered and outgunned by Independent types, and allow them to escape -- or maybe even take someone prisoner in the mean time? I can see Dalia trying to pull a hostile takeover of the Athena not long after they're out of range of the Corvus, though, so we won't ever be short on drama and conflict.

Yay or nay to any of these ideas?

Aye aye, captain--that means a thousand times yay! Count Strauss in for anything short of an untimely demise à la Reaver-style because I have vested interested in continuing to play him. XD

I think a merger of the two crews would definitely be interesting! Especially a violent one of sorts.

I second ~straussmd's suggestions. And add that we could always run a sort of "Out of Gas" scenario on one of the ships? Which could ultimately lead to a merger? The outgassed crew could use the opportunity to just pull a hostile takeover of the ship that offers aid?

and not to seem like I am ignoring this comment at all, I tried to angle in the hostile takeover aspect that you mentioned -- to me, though I could be wrong as I'm not captain of that ship, it seems like something the Nekhbet gang would do to the Athena if placed in a dire enough position, and would also be a nice mirror of the "Out of Gas" scenario that happened to Serenity.

Dalia would be definitely the more likely to attempt a hostile take-over (and I think Rezek and Zeke wouldn't hesitate to help, but I could be wrong). Sohei has a smidge of righteousness in her that would keep her from being a complete and utter failure as a human being, so that's unlikely.

I'll be sad to see us lose the Nekhbet, since it was the stronger of the two ships, but the game *is* based on Firefly and it seems a bit sad not to make us of their ship - easier to picture the setting as well.

Yeah, given that she's now the effective Captain on board, though I'm reluctant to have her take on the role officially, Sohei really isn't the type to turn on people -- she'll do what it takes to survive, but not more than that. I'm sad to see the Nekhbet get ruined, too -- or maybe it's just temporarily confiscated by the Alliance, and they can eventually stage a break in to reclaim her one day? It just seems that the Athena crew outnumbers the Nekhbet, plus they're more likely to be benevolent and junk and stage a rescue without expecting any kind of compensation. Ruthless opportunism would be a much more fun lifestyle, though. :P

Forgot to add: since the current mission the Nekhbet was on essentially throws them in the line of fire of the Alliance (and the Athena would have been hot on their heels), it's possible that the ship might have been damaged in a confrontation, hence prompting them to evac. I figure that even if the Nekhbet can't be boarded by the Alliance, it can still be damaged and life support could be severely affected.

Effectively, it's your ship, Captain, so if that's what makes sense as far as getting the Nekhbet decommissioned temporarily, I think that's just fine! If the Corvus happens to be part of that confrontation, all the more interesting.
