Guild Wars Finally Unveiled

NCsoft and ArenaNet finally released images and info for the long-awaited Guild Wars 2, also at GamesCom. The teaser trailer doesn't convey much (other than the fact that ArenaNet still employs fantastically talented artists), but the developer was willing to shed light on one of the game's new features: the event system. In similar fashion to Warhammer Online's public quests, GW 2's events offer a dynamic way for players to work together to impact something in the gameworld. ArenaNet shared an example of a centaur raid on a military outpost, where the outcome of the raid determines whether the next battle takes place as the human forces counterattack to either retake the outpost or go after the centaur's base. Unlike the first game, Guild Wars 2 features a persistent world like most MMO's, though the relative balance of instanced content to public space is as of yet unknown. NCsoft has yet to announce a release date for the title.

Hudson Entertainment Brings Wii Owners Face to Face with Spirits of the Dead in Calling

Calling Videogame Strays between Life and Death, Evoking Intrigue and Mystery as Players Fight for Survival

Hudson Entertainment will bring players face to face with death as they roam an alternate existence in an attempt to survive Calling. The adventure horror title is set to be published by Hudson Entertainment, the North and South American publishing arm of HUDSON SOFT, and will be exclusive to Wii in 2010.

“Players will be asked to use their wits and senses to survive the world of Calling,” said Mike Pepe, Director of Marketing of Hudson Entertainment. “It is a game that revolves around real people and real emotions – no chain saws or suits of armor. The game is traditional survival horror at its finest.”

In Calling, players begin by visiting a mysterious “Black Page” website with a simple number counter. Some say it is a bridge to something sinister; the counter indicating the number of people who have died after visiting the page. It is said that people who have visited the site and witness a certain event are drawn into a mysterious space compiled of the memories of the dead - the space between life and death. Someone or something is drawing the living there for a reason, and it is up to the player to discover the horrifying truth. In order to do so, players will use various equipment including flash lights, phones, and other items to navigate and escape the Calling.

Throughout the game players will visit various parts of the Calling world. Memories of houses, schools, hospitals and more bring players closer to either an escape or an untimely death. Players will solve puzzles, search and interact with objects, and ultimately try to avoid the inhabitance of this alternative existence.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review
 e3 - (ex_spellboun8)

07:09pm 05/07/2009

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has somehow wormed its way into America's collective heart, earning mega bucks at the box office. Don't hold it against us that we were a little hesitant at first to check out the movie's video game sibling. We've been burned in the past by movie spin-offs (yeah, Wanted, I'm looking at you) and didn't know if we could take having our fragile little hearts broken again.

However, X-Play's Transformers expert Matt Keil reviewed the game and it wasn't all that bad. From his review:

"If you loved the movie, and for some reason a lot of people did, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is worth a weekend rental. It gets more things right than the first film’s game, but still doesn’t quite rise above the “average” threshold. There’s clearly a good game to be had out of the Transformers property, though, so here’s hoping Activision keeps trying while they have access to the license. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows proved that you don’t need a movie tie-in to make a good licensed game, so maybe next year’s recently announced Transformers title will follow suit."

A cross-breeding of Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein seems to be the concept behind this latest third-person adventure from Vivendi. The resulting game sees a generously-endowed, foxy female protagonist embark on a quest to investigate some rather mysterious supernatural goings on within Nazi Germany. As the full story goes, in the years between the World Wars, Agent BloodRayne works as a killing machine for a top-secret fraternity that hunts down and destroys supernatural threats. Two missions, five years apart, turn out to be connected by one particular man who, for years, has been searching for powerful occult relics to bring Germany into a new age of domination. Agent BloodRayne must face this man's elite Nazi army to prevent them from releasing creatures of unfathomable terror onto the world in their unwavering quest for the relics.

Katamari Forever Hands-On
 e3 - (ex_spellboun8)

05:15pm 07/06/2009

When it comes to quirky, kooky and flat-out bizarre games about collecting as much random crap as you can by rolling around equally random settings in order to appease a body-less space king, the Katamari series is among the best. Bandai Namco’s next installment in the famed franchise, Katamari Forever, features a new story, new modes, new maps, new graphics filters, a remixed version of the original game’s soundtrack, runs in 1080p, and will be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 this Fall.

Katamari Forever tasks you, the Prince, with satisfying the outrageous demands of not one, but two collect-o-phile kings, King of All Cosmos and Robo King. Robo King assumes the throne after the King of All Cosmos falls into a coma and loses his memory. It’s therefore up to the Prince to traverse the game’s various maps, including five new Robo King maps (bringing the game’s total level count to well over 20) in an attempt to revive the fallen king and help him regain his tainted crown.
