Notes: This is a short piece, but very enjoyable.  Daniel is going through a mid-life crisis (uh, which life he's not really sure...)   Jack realizes something is wrong when he finds Daniel's notebook, filled quotes from dead philosophers like Kierkegaard.  So he kidnaps Daniel to get him out of the mountain, and things get a little out of hand.  I love the fact that he quotes Sappho - uh, never mind...not going to spoil anything, just read it and enjoy.

Notes: One of my favorite stories by The Grrrl.  They're trapped off world, and captured and abandoned by native soldiers, during wartime.  The way they care for each other, and find happiness together is beautiful.  It's not that simple, the way they're drawn is complex and intriguing, and the story holds your attention all the way through.  This story just makes me happy.

Why this author?  Her fic are incredibly dense - everything is intense and extremely well thought out and realistic and they just make you yearn for a happy resolution - a resolution that does not always come.  And even when it does?  It's often bittersweet and melancholic, and even when I know the ending isn't going to be one of the happy ones (I should know, I've read them all more than once), I still wish for it, anyway. 

Her fic are usually high on angst and drama, with extremely well rounded characters that grab you and just don't let go.  I really love to read her Jack O'Neill.  You'll see the crazy oaf that you see portrayed in canon and fic, but what I love seeing is the deadly, black ops Colonel that you know is in there, and only seems to comes out when needed.  You see a lot more of him in Komos' work, and that makes me happy, because you know he didn't get to where he is now by being a baffoon.

Oh, yeah, and she writes some of the most intense sexual situations I've ever read. 

She hasn't written that many fic, you can read them all in a fairly short time.  I'd recommend it.  She also recs a lot from her journal; it's worth keeping up with, she has good taste in fic.

Notes: There's an AU component to the fic, in that the begining of Season 8 doesn't happen quite this way, but it's rather close.  It's a road fic, kind of slowly paced, relaxed - and I just love the way Jack and Daniel just sort of gravitate to each other over the course of the trip.  Jack has the press hounding him, thinking that he has something to do with the fire fight that took place over Antartica at the end of Season 7, so Daniel snatches him out of their grasp and takes him on one last trip before he takes over his new post as head of SGC.

Notes:  I have a thing for good Absolute Daniel fic.  The problem is, this is the first one I ever read, and it spoiled me.  I love the mood of this piece.  Kind of...I don't really know how to describe it.  It doesn't move really fast, there's a kind of relaxed air to it that's hard to reconcile with the fact that it's a story about Jack being a captive of the Daniel that Shifu describes in his "teaching dream."   But the fic moves at it's own pace, and I love the glimpses we see of Jack and Daniel together, of Jack's escape attempts and recaptures and of Jack watching football with his guard Major John Sheppard splitting his attention between the game and Jack.  I like the way dirty diana leaves so much of the action to our imaginations, and just gives us glimpses that fill in the gaps.

Notes: This is one of the hardest fics to describe - it's quite short, which is good, I think, because if it were longer, it might be too much to deal with.  But it gets the point across in a minimum of words.  No whips and chains involved, here, but the violence is shockingly real, and intense, and the first time I read this fic, I had to sit there and digest it for a bit.  Then I had to read it again.   Then I went and friended Kres, so I didn't miss anything else.  This one still blows me away, everytime I read it.

Notes: This story takes place in an Alternate Universe where the military has a stronger presence both in life in general, and the Stargate in specific.  The military stuck around and estabilshed a base on Abydos, and when in a huge battle between the Goa'uld and the military, a good portion of the human population of the planet were destroyed or left homeless, Daniel opted to stay and help care for the surviors instead of return to Earth.  He was branded as a traitor, and is now the property of the man who turned him in - Colonel Jack O'Neill. 

Daniel struggles to keep his sanity and dignity in a world where his entire life is controled by the military, and his very survival is in the hands of those he hates and despises.  He's protected (in some ways) by O'Neill, but his status as a prisoner, leaves him open to abuse and mistreatment, accepted by all as his due for his "betrayal" of his own race.   Every night he dreams of his wife and freedom, only to wake to a world of despair from which he sees no chance of escape, except death.

I love this story.  It's bleak, and filled with horror, but Daniel's struggles to keep his dignity, and Jack's efforts to find a way to reach through to him, make this Universe real to me.  There really can be no truly happy ending, here, Daniel is always going to be a prisoner - no matter what happens.  But you hope all the way through that the two can at least find some balance that can keep them both alive and help them find some peace in their lives. 

For some reason, Quinn has taken her fiction off Area 52, but I found  this copy on The Angst Archive, thank goodness.  I saved a copy for myself.  I really don't want to lose this fic.  Quinn used to have more fic on Area 52.  If anyone knows of a website, or another archive where more of her fic is kept, please let me know!

Jack and Daniel are being forced to have sex, in order to save Teal'c's life.  They flip a coin to see who bottoms, and Jack loses.  Daniel takes over.

Notes: This is an incredible story.  Beautifully written, incredibly detailed and the characters are so well drawn.  Jack is the ex-BlackOps Colonel that I love to read about.  Professional, hard-edged, strong but capable of caring and love - she's written him just the way I like him.  The way he and Daniel communicate with just a touch, a look, a lift of the eyebrow, fingers on a racing pulse, and everything is clear to them.  But not just beautiful - damn is it hot, too!  

If you haven't read this, you really should.  And don't be scared off by the fact that she says it's the beginning of a longer fic.  It's perfectly complete as is.  And once you've read it, you'll be glad she has more in mind.  You want to see more of these two.  You miss them when they're gone.  Sign of a good fic, in my book. 

The excerpt  bellow gives us a glimpse of  yet another side of Komos, her humor, and her excellent ear, capturing everyone's voices just as clearly as she does Jack's and Daniel's.  In the scene before this one, Jack has been taking out his anger on the innocent gym equipment, since the men who tortured Daniel are dead, and beyond his reach.  Then Teal'c shows up and helps him get rid of his aggressions.

You know, I really like this fic, but I often feel that at the end, Daniel's behavior is a little bit off.  But that's just me, and it obviously doesn't stop me from reading it all the time, so I'm probably being a bit nit-picky, here.  After all, Daniel's been through a hell of a lot in the last two days, how the hell would I know how he'd act?  Anyway, it's definitely worth reading...more than once.

Notes: Carter is kidnapped and shown in graphic detail exactly why she should not be loyal to General O'Neill or Stargate Command.  Excellent portrayal of Sam Carter.  She's a full, rounded character, with conflicting emotions, and an unwavering faith in her friends.  An intense fic, but well worth the read.  (For that matter, everything by paian is.)

Oh, yeah, and the sex is freakin' hot! The following excerpt gives you a taste of the scene in which Jack and Daniel have the most intense session of clothed frottage (without moving!) that I think I've ever read - ever.
