For the first time since Cordelia had been back, the temperatures outside were comfortable, even warm. When compared to the seemingly constant onslaught of snow and ice that had made up the entirety of the winter months. Never had she thought that she would miss California, but Cordelia and the cold had never mixed well. A born and raised Valley Girl, she'd grown accustomed to the searing summers and the warm winters. She'd been thoroughly pleased when she'd walked outside tonight, only to find that it was in the sixties. Maybe it wasn't in the eighties like Cordelia preferred, but it was leagues better than the thirties. And the way things were going as of late, Cordelia was so much more thankful for things she'd used to take for granted; such as nice weather. Or, you know -- a studly guy.

Dean Winchester wasn't like any of the guys she'd met before. Not any that were human, anyway. Their first date had definitely been out of the conventional dinner and a movie. That had been just fine by her. Instead of watching a movie, the two of them had gone on a patrol that had ended with them stopping for some cheap Chinese food. Granted, it wasn't like the dates that the guys had used to take her on. For one thing, the guys she'd dated in the past would have screamed and ran if they'd seen the demon that she and Dean had put down. Secondly? Cordelia would have slapped any guy that had tried to take her to a cheap Chinese buffet. But that was then. Now, she happened to think it was endearing. More than anything, she'd loved listening to Dean talk about his life. He hadn't given her every single detail, but he'd shared stories of his previous hunts, how he and his brother would always prank each other, and Cordelia couldn't help but to be enamored. Hell, she had even thought it was cute when he spilled Chow Mein all over the front of his shirt. The second date had been even better. He'd shown up at the apartment, one of those "I'm up to no good" expressions plastered on his too-handsome face. Within an hour, they were overlooking the entire city of Cleveland, and all the darting, colorful lights that made up any city at night. "How'd you find this place?" She'd been here for months, and she'd never even known about the overlook. It was a large rock formation that sat on a huge hill, and the two of them had sat with their feet dangling off the edge of the tallest rock, looking over the houses and buildings.

It would have been naive of Cordelia to say that she was in love after two dates, but she was definitely feeling the butterflies.

The people were out in hordes tonight in attempts to enjoy the warm weather. It was like everyone had just come out of some long hibernation, their moods lifted considerably. Cordelia's tennis shoes moved along the sidewalk with a slight hop in her step, her mood just as soaring as those around her. I should have brought Angel. The Dark Avenger hadn't exactly been the avenging type lately, though he had an extra side of dark. No one could blame him, really. Things hadn't been smooth for him, or anyone else for that matter, ever since they'd all come to Cleveland. Cordelia had hoped her return would help. She wasn't sure that it had, but that didn't keep her from trying.

The Seer hadn't even realized that she had walked into an area less known, and definitely less populated until she bumped shoulders with someone else. When she lifted her head to apologize, she was staring at a petite blonde. "Sorry about that."

Follow her. Two words she obligated to, snatching a couple of professional polaroids of Cordelia Chase, hook estacticly on another man's arm. Dean Winchester. She studied the polaroid, expecting some answers from a black and white picture. "Dean Winchester. Well, you have been a busy boy haven't you?" She tossed the photo in the passenger seat, staring up at her rearview mirror and slurping on her lukewarm coffee. Normally she wouldn't need caffeine to keep her awake, but Cordelia had spent majority of her time with Dean, and it was hard to catch her alone. She had tracked her at another man's house a couple days ago, someone Wolfram & Hart referred to as Angel. It seemed Cordelia was a 'player' and she had to give her props for that. Two men in the same week was plain smooth, sodapop.

There was nothing impressionable about a two hundred year old vampire, but neither was a human who was too cheap to escort his girlfriend out for a decent meal. How hard was it to dish out a couple of twenty dollar bills these days? Coming from a woman who preferred the Coffee Bean over Starbucks she liked to think she had taste. Italian restaurants were reasonable these days, but she wouldn't advise the snails unless you can handle the delicacy. She was grateful the company was finally taking her seriously. She already made an impression on Dean the first night she met him. He didn't suspect she was working for a company that dealt in their own personal agendas, and now Dean was endorsing himself into it. Now she was off on a recon mission to keep an eye on Cordelia Chase. Maybe it wouldn't have matter so much if she hadn't been a threat. She knew what Wolfram & Hart was and if any of Dean's secrets leaked out, she could persuade him to turn the other cheek and get out while he still had a pulse. That plagiarized a threat. She needed to keep Dean on track and get Cordelia out of the way. Abel liked to consider herself a reasonable person. She could handle situation like these like an adult. If Cordelia still didn't cave, she would have to resolve matters a more difficult way. Yes, somewhere down the line that may involve torture or kidnapping. She could only pray this seer who see this coming, otherwise she'd truly be screwed. She would have to work from both sides. She needed to earn Dean's trust and somehow shy him away from his current crush.

Why couldn't she just raise a few zombies and have them attack by sundown?

While Wolfram & Hart was considered evil, they liked to handle everything smoothly. They must of done something right if they convinced their arch enemy to run that place once upon a time.

Abel stepped out of the vehicle, realizing Cordelia was making her way by an alley. It was the perfect time to sweep in. The Seer was finally alone, and in a less populated area. In case things didn't go as plan, at least they would have their privacy. She wove past the buildings, arriving in time to cross paths with Cordelia. She purposely shoved her should against hers, and paused to pick up the apology that expelled from the brunette's lips.

"Oh, don't be silly. I'm a klutz. They say I was born with two left feet," she laughed warmly. If necromancy hadn't earned her a novel prize, her acting skills surely would.

It was a good thing Abel didn't say anything about her assumptions about Cordelia and Angel. Had she done so, she would have been greeted by a harsh slap across her face. Cordelia had no qualms fighting girls. Besides, if Abel had done any kind of homework, it would have been exceptionally easy for her to find that Cordelia had been working for Angel for years, not sleeping with him. Maybe Wolfram and Hart was beginning to get sloppy with who they hired. Lilah might have been a life-sucking bitch, but she worked hard, did her homework, and had killer fashion sense.

"Oh, don't be silly. I'm a klutz. They say I was born with two left feet," Cordelia gave a polite laugh, raising her hand as if to assure the woman in front of her. "For your sake, I hope you're joking. Good shoes just don't come in two left pairs." Without letting the woman know, Cordelia was sizing her up. It wasn't anything against her, but Cordelia had learned relatively quickly that in order to stay alive, one had to look at everyone. Threats often times didn't have a large sign that came with them saying "KILLER."

As far as she could tell, the blonde didn't have plans to slaughter her, and she definitely didn't look the type to try and impregnate Cordelia with her demon spawn ( after happening twice before, one could never be too careful ). So, with a small smile, she raised her hand, waiting for the other woman to shake it. "I'm Cordelia."

It wasn't Wolfram & Hart's job to carry relationship details out. She had known Cordelia was a former employee of Angel's, and maybe Abel was incapable of believing a male and female could work together and not under the table. Frankly, she hadn't cared about Cordelia's personal life, not even the fact she was now dating Dean. She was only doing her job to get paid. Evidently, it wouldn't be easy to prove herself to the firm again. They thought she was fickle the last time she quit without word. They weren't willing to give her all her conditions, but some were negotiated.

Cordelia seemed charismatic, that she could understand why Dean had took a good interest in her. She kept a smile on, even when the woman was sizing her up. Now wasn't the time to seem inconspicuous. If she was going to handle things smoothly, she needed Cordelia to believe she had no hidden agenda. So, she would remain calm, and do the polite thing to do. She was human. She knew her manners, even if she wasn't exactly normal either. "Abel," she responded. Her hand extended to shake Cordelia's, while sizing her up discreetly.

Cordelia was remarkably fashionable. She could tell this woman knew the difference between gucci and a fraud bag. There was nothing fake about her. "Speaking of yours," she narrowed her eyes down. "Are those prada or jimmy choo's?" Abel hadn't been must for fashion, but she a few designer labels. She had to admit she picked shoes that were affordable, but not payless.

Ever since Cordelia had moved to Los Angeles nearly seven years ago, Wolfram and Hart had been a constant thorn in their side. They'd been around for centuries, before humans themselves, but it seemed like their only goal was to destroy Angel. Myopic viewed and relentlessly vicious, Wolfram and Hart had never released the reins they held over Angel. Any time the group would think they'd finally caught a break from the law firm, it would rear its ugly head again, and it would be worse than before. When the powers had let her come back the first time, Cordelia had a hard time believing that Angel, the champion, had become the CEO of the same place that had caused them so much grief. It hadn't been until much later that she realized he'd had the right intentions all along. She'd felt bad for ever doubting him. Angel always did have a way of coming through in the end.

"Abel," Cordelia almost made a joke about Cain and Abel, but she stopped herself short. Even if she wasn't religious, she felt wrong making fun of something like that. "Pretty name," Cordelia mused. It was easy to see that Abel was doing just as Cordelia had, and was sizing her up. Both of the women had brains, it seemed. It wasn't until Abel spoke about Cordelia's shoes that the brunette realized just how smart Abel was.

Instantly, Cordelia lit up, obviously thrilled with the opportunity to talk fashion with someone. Hell, she hadn't that chance since she'd been brought back. "Oh, wow. I was beginning to think that no one in Cleveland knew anything about shoes." With a large smile in place, the Seer looked down at her shoes, moving one so that it was turned to the side, so Abel could get a better look at it. "Jimmy Choo. You've got a good eye." Smirking, she looked back up at Abel, her mood obviously greatly improved. That was saying something, considering her mood had already been better than usual. "I managed to snag them at half price when Macy's had their sale a month or two back."

Generally speaking, Cordelia wasn't one to bond with people prematurely. After all, years of experiencing heartache and backstabbing ( some of it from her own friends ) had made her cautious. Still, she wasn't about to lose the opportunity to have a gal-pal who could speak the language of fashion. "You know, I heard that the mall is having some pretty radical sales in the next couple of days. You and I should definitely go." She could always take Angel, but she doubted he'd be as much fun trying on high heels.

If there was one thing she learned about something was you couldn't go wrong talking about fashion. It was the key for a woman's heart, or most women who valued a decent bargain. Maybe bonding with Cordelia wouldn't be that difficult. Of course, she had to take precautions. She had to grow closer with Cordelia, and distant with Dean. The less he knew the better it would be. She couldn't have him slip out any information that could incriminate her. Everything had to be planned, but she always had a backup just in case. Still just because she made friends with Cordelia didn't mean it would draw her away from Dean. Abel like to think she had the intelligence to muster up something. If she had to attend a thousand shoe sales to do it, then so be it. She loved a challenge, after all.

"My parents were big on christianity." That part had been the truth. She never been religious either, and always loathed her name. Cain seemed more fitting for a girl like her. She could of created a new name for herself when she emancipated from them, but Abel ws starting to grow on her. It certainly drew in some reactions with people she met.

Cordelia seemed too thrilled that Abel was right on the money. Frankly, she had gambled between labels the whole time. She figured every girl had to at least have one pair of jimmy choo's they couldn't part with. "An avid shopper. Nice." She had to give props for a girl who knew where to shop for sales. It would be a shame if this ended badly. She may not be trading on the good side, but that didn't mean she was a masochist either. The smoother things with the better. "You know, I heard that the mall is having some pretty radical sales in the next couple of days. You and I should definitely go."

Abel's eyes widened, and a grin plastered on her face. "How could I argue with that. I can't pass up a good sale." She gazed around the area, noticing a coffee shop across the street, and then glossed her eyes back on Cordelia. "I was just about to head in for a cup of coffee. You want to come with? My treat."

"My parents were big on Christianity." Cordelia smiled warmly at the woman, both of her hands coming to rest easily on her hips. It wasn't a defensive gesture. Rather, it was one of ease. "I don't even know if my parents were religious. They were too busy flying off to exotic places for me to notice, I guess." Sometimes, rarely, Cordelia wondered how her parents were. Were they still paying back their million dollar debt in taxes? Had they finally been able to buy another house after losing theirs? Cordelia hadn't spoken to her parents in years.

Attention was quickly pulled away from her parents and focused back on Abel. "An avid shopper. Nice." This time, Cordelia's smile was even wider, even more jubilant than the one before. How did she not sense that Abel was a fake? Was Cordelia so desperate to gain a friend that she was letting herself be blindsided? Apparently so. Judging peoples' characters had become somewhat of a gift for Cordelia. Too bad it didn't come in handy right then.

"I was just about to head in for a cup of coffee. You want to come with? My treat." Oh, she was good. Cordelia didn't even have to think about it. Abel was barely able to finish her question before Cordelia jumped in, nodding enthusiastically. "I'd love to. Coffee is one of my biggest downfalls. Right under clothes, of course." With that, Cordelia spun on her Jimmy Choos, and began an easy pace toward the coffee shop, knowing that Abel would follow suit.

"So, are you from Cleveland? Or did you move here?" Small talk always had been easy for the Seer. After all, you weren't named the queen of your high school without some outgoing streaks.

"I don't even know if my parents were religious. They were too busy flying off to exotic places for me to notice, I guess." She was inwardly musing over that conception, expecting there were neglecting parents who choice exotic vacations over their only daughter. She had to give props Cordelia didn't endorse in neon hair dye and heavy metal music to rebel against her parents. She imagined credit cards made up for that isolation. Abel no longer spoke to her parents either, but that was something she chose. They didn't give her any reasons to loathe them.

She had to ride solo in this business, but still being human it was hard not to grow close to someone. She could easily love Cordelia, and at the same time she could easily hate her. A fashion extroadinare wasn't exactly her cup of tea, but she could tell there was another side of her. Someone who probably was a good friend to keep around. Heck, if she convinced a two hundred year old demon to keep up with her, there had to be a good reason behind it.

Abel followed directly behind Cordelia, joining her right at her side and acknowledged the question with a warm smile. "Business I guess you could say." She hoped that didn't come off inconspicuous, so she decided to elaborate. "My father wanted me to go to an Ivy league school. My way of getting back at him is buying a full tank of gas and coming to the least place he would expect to find me." Of course, it had been all lies. Although she was amazed at how well she was coming up with them.

She entered the coffee shop, that thankfully had no lines. Cordelia and Abel were able to make their orders and have their coffee at a decent time. Although it was never really an inappropriate time for coffee as far as she could tell. She sat down at one of the booths with her coffee in hand, and kept that smile on when Cordelia joined her. "But mainly it was because of my exboyfriend. Now I know what you're thinking. He cheated. Which is true, but you could imagine the shock in my eyes when I found out it wasn't with a woman." Another lie, but she hoped conversing over relationship would get Cordelia to talk about Dean. Any information she could provide her would be gold to the firm.

The Chase's weren't necessarily neglectful parents, in the strictest sense. Cordelia had never known what it was like to go without food and clean ( expensive ) clothes until she moved to Los Angeles. Her parents loved her. They just loved their jobs and their vacations even more. Cordelia had grown closer to her nanny than anyone else. Jezebel had been a plump, dark-skinned woman who had always been the first one to hold Cordelia when she was upset, and rejoice in her happiness. More times than not, Cordelia wondered about the cheery woman more than she did her parents.

"My father wanted me to go to an Ivy League school." Cordelia nodded gently while she placed her order to the tender. "Most people would have jumped at the chance to get into an Ivy League college." The Seer would have been one of them. Cordelia had surprised everyone when she'd been accepted into some of the top colleges in the United States. The only thing that kept her from going? A little thing called debt. Once the money had been drained from parents' accounts, they hadn't even had enough money left to send her to the community college. But, Cordelia figured that was the Powers' way of making sure she went to Los Angeles.

"He cheated. Which is true, but you could imagine the shock in my eyes when I found out it wasn't with a woman." Oh, that had to hurt. Cordelia's mouth dropped open, completely shocked. "Get out! I would have killed him!" There was a beat, as Cordelia shook her head and took a small sip of the coffee, wincing when the too-hot liquid scalded the tip of her tongue. "My first love-lost wasn't quite like that, but he did cheat on me. I walked in on him and his best friend making out." A lot of people assumed that Cordelia was dating Xander out of pity. They'd been wrong. Despite what everyone thought, Cordelia had loved Xander. She'd vowed to never fall in love again after him. Then Doyle had come along, and she'd been blindsided. When he'd died, a world of missed opportunities had rained down against her.

"I don't know why I even bother dating anymore. It usually ends badly. I'm hoping this time will be different." Cordelia shrugged, and offered a small smile to Abel. "So, you find any studly guy here in Cleveland, yet?"

Maybe it was the opposites attract that made this conversation bearable. She had thought prom queen usually meant an air-head bimbo, but clearly she was mistaken and took the cliche too far. Cordelia had a sense in style that didn't just consume in her fashion, but also her charismatic personality. Abel knew she had to keep this professional. Wolfram & Hart didn't take their employees seriously if they made their missions personal. If she was going to deceive, she had to play the part. The lies wouldn't be difficult, since she was an avid manipulator.

"Most people would have jumped at the chance to get into an Ivy League college." Abel had always been smart, but when she found out she could raise the dead it no longer crossed her mind to participate into wealthy colleges. Who needs algebra when you can bring back the first president of the United States? She grinned at that thought. It never occurred to her to raise famous deceased people, but she could imagine what they would say if they woke up in their own grave. She couldn't imagine herself growing up to be a surgeon or a dentist. It wasn't her style. Who would of thought she would of ended up working for a firm that was far from your typical lawyer agency.

"Get out! I would have killed him!" She laughed, taking a sip from her coffee. My first love-lost wasn't quite like that, but he did cheat on me. I walked in on him and his best friend making out." A part of her wondered who would ever cheat on someone like Cordelia Chase. She was gorgeous, much more then others, and seemed to hold up her end of the conversation. "Men are such losers," she commented. She could comprehend why Cordelia was giving up on love. It seemed to be foreign. Abel never fancied herself on men too much. They were all cheats and liars. So, you find any studly guy here in Cleveland, yet?" She shrugged, giving a laugh, and narrowed her head down. "Well, I can't say that I have. Their all gay, married, or players."

She lifted her head, making eye contact again with Cordelia. "How bout you? Any fish left in the sea that you can your hook on?" She hoped this would be her chance to gain some insight on Dean Winchester.

"Men are such losers." In any other circumstance, Cordelia might have agreed with Abel. Men, on a massive scale, were Grade-A losers. She might be convinced that every single male alive was a loser were it not for the few in her life that she'd found to be otherwise. Angel - well, he was a champion. There was nothing about him that Cordelia could associate with anything resembling a loser. He'd lost. A lot. But he wasn't a loser. Then again, Cordelia might have been biased. Wesley wasn't exactly himself as of late, but he was still one of the best men that Cordelia had the honor of working beside. Gunn. The name alone made Cordelia tense, the feeling of loss nearly unbearable for a long moment before she composed herself again, forcing a tiny smile.

And now there was Dean. While still new in her life, it was easy to see that he was one of the best guys around. He loved his family more than anything else, and he was willing to fight for what he believed in. He reminded her a lot of Angel. Except for - you know, the breathing and being alive.

"How about you? Any fish left in the sea that you can your hook on?" This made Cordelia's mood lift instantly. She was still a woman, after all. Talking about boys had always been a specialty of hers. "There's this one guy," Both dark, well-kept brows lifted in a teasing expression while she took a long sip of her since-cooled coffee. "I've got to admit, I thought he'd be just another one of those ridiculously good looking guys that think they own the world, but he's actually very sweet." Wait, was Cordelia - was she actually blushing? "His name is Dean. And I'm not one to be vain," Okay, so that was a complete lie. "But he's quite the studmuffin."

It was hard to associate Dean Winchester with sweet. She met the man a month ago, and he'd been a cocky bastard who probably would jumped her bones if she allowed it. She could see how charming good looks could cloud a woman's perspective, or maybe she was being too shallow. Abel had relied too much on first impressions. She thought it told a lot about a person. What Wolfram & Hart had told her about Dean Winchester proved her speculations correct. When they spied on him he was caught with many attractive women. She only hoped Cordelia didn't rely too much on a committed relationship with this Dean fellow. She was setting herself up for another disappointment.

Abel still hadn't seen the good in men. They all had some secret or flaw deep down. The information she picked up on Angel was horrifying. Formerly Angelus who slaughtered families upon families, even made one insane. There wasn't much she knew about Wesley, except he was sleeping with one of bosses.

"Oh, now this I have to hear about. A studmuffin and sweet? There is no such thing." She tapped her finger on the desk while she spoke those last few words, then took another sip from her coffee. "Details."

Oh, Cordelia would have been the first to start a "men suck" group. She'd be the president, of course. ( If Abel wanted to join, she'd have to settle with just being a member. Cordelia had to be president. Maybe she did still have a vain streak. ) But when it came to men, Cordelia wasn't one to let good looks and a cocky smile get to her. Given her previous history of men, she'd learned a few lessons along the way. If they hadn't wanted to impregnate her with their demon spawn ( it happened twice, people! ), they had wanted to wear her on their arm like some kind of trophy. But Dean - he was different. At least, that's what Cordelia thought.

If Abel had told Cordelia her thoughts about Angel, she would have argued until she turned blue in the face. Angelus and Angel were two separate beings shoved in the same body. She had always been the first one to remind Angel of that little fact. He might have to carry around a demon with him all the time, but Angelus wasn't in the driver seat. That didn't mean Angel was flawless. No, he could be callous and selfish. When he had abandoned Angel Investigations for months, Cordelia had probably been the last one to forgive him.

"Oh, now this I have to hear about. A studmuffin and sweet? There is no such thing. Details." The Seer smirked, setting aside her cup of coffee for the time being. "I really thought he'd be the kind of guy that would love 'em and leave 'em, you know? But so far, he's been great. We've only been on two dates so far, but we're planning another." Fingers played idly with the edge of the table, tearing at the falling plastic. "You know how when you really like a guy, you get those butterflies? I'm definitely feeling those. And it's been years since I've felt that. I almost forgot what it was like."

Cordelia was about to say something else when she glanced down at her knock off Armani watch. An H&M sale was going on right now, and Cordelia was missing it! Gasping, the brunette grabbed up the coffee, offering an apologetic smile to the blonde. "I am so sorry, but I've got to dash. Let me give you my number, and we'll totally get together for those sales. I can't wait to have a gal pal who knows their way around good pairs of shoes." As soon as Cordelia had scribbled her number down on a napkin, she spun and made her way out of the coffee shop. She almost felt bad for the abrupt exit, but ... sales.
