Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
who: Leah & Emily
what: Hanging out
when: Sunday afternoon
where: Emily and Sam's place
rating: Nothing serious, PG at the most.

Leah launched herself onto the couch, sprawling her body along it's width before looking over at her cousin with a smile, "What'd you think about the wedding yesterday?"

She'd just come over for a visit a couple minutes prior, not having anything better to do on the Sunday since she didn't have work, and she didn't feel like being at home. Leah was happy and content with the fact that she could come over to Emily and Sam's without feeling that weight upon her chest that had always attacked her before. Time had a way of freeing one from their personal demons and heart aches; she was grateful that she could be at a place where she didn't feel like shooting herself every time she saw the two love birds together. Nor did she harbor any hate or jealousy toward her cousin anymore. Sam was another story, because she found herself still a little bitter toward him(though she'd learned how to conceal it), but what overruled that was the fact that throughout the years, she'd come to realize that he really wasn't what she wanted or needed.

Most importantly, she was just happy that she and Ems could return to their old state of sisterly love, she'd missed being close to her cousin...

Emily really had missed her cousin. They had been so close at one point and then Emily had ruined it all, though she couldn't regret it. She couldn't pretend that she regretted anything with Sam because she loved him. She regretted that she had hurt her best friend and sister, though. It was great now that Leah was coming back around. Emily really did want her there.

Em had just settled into the recliner that Sam normally lazed in when Leah pipped up, having flung herself onto the couch comfortably.

"It was a beautiful wedding. Paul and Whitney looked happy."

Emily said with a grin. Thinking back it really was a wonderful wedding, even if the dresses had been a little too much for Emily, mainly because her's had fit a wee bit more snug than it had when she'd been measured and fitted for it She had a wonderful time at the wedding, though, and now Paul and Whitney were married and happy.

"Everyone looked great, it's nice when we can all get together like that, but it always takes a lot of effort. Did you have a good time?"

Emily asked looking over at Leah curiously.

If Leah knew that Emily still blamed herself for 'ruining it all'? She would have definitely done something to get that thought out of her cousin's head. Because Leah didn't blame Emily. Oh, sure, there was a time when she did -- because it wasn't like her cousin had to fall in love with Sam, she wasn't forced to love him though he was apparently forced to love her. But after awhile, Leah came to reason and realized that she could not blame her cousin for falling for such a wonderful guy -- Leah did, after all. They had been so close, so similar, it was understandable that they would love the same type of man.

But anyway, that was the past, and she hated to linger on it.

"They did look happy," She smiled, thinking back to the couple, remembering how they had interacted with one another. Love was truly a beautiful thing to witness, though it still made her want to gag at times with all the mushy gooey crap -- but Leah's heart had been warmed by seeing Paul and Whitney so happy together. It was a testament in and of itself with how she had grown.

Leah nodded her head, agreeing with Emily that such functions took a lot of effort, "Yeah, I enjoyed myself better than I thought I would. Of course the reception got ten times better after I'd had five glasses of champagne and got on the dance floor," She laughed, smiling to herself as she thought about that one guy she danced with. He must have been from Whitney's side of the guest list, because she hadn't seen him before but he was cute.

"You looked super hot in your dress, by the way."

Emily hadn't ever wanted to push her cousin away. They'd always been so close and when Sam had imprinted on her, Emily had pushed him away at first, and then felt incredibly guilty for giving in. It had broken Leah's heart. Emily, unlike others, knew that Leah had a wonderful heart. She just hid it behind what she said and pushing people away when she wasn't happy. Emily understood her cousin, they had been extremely close! They were so similar and they understood one another most of the time.

Dwelling on the past was never helpful for the future, though. Emily smiled thinking about how beautiful Whitney had looked and just how happy Paul had been to marry her. Emily was a romantic at heart, though.

"Well, the dance floor makes everything better, and the champagne, that's always going to help a little bit."

Emily grinned. She'd seen Leah enjoying herself and it did make her happy to see that. Emily liked seeing her chosen family happy.

"I was wearing the same dress as you. And it looked better on you too. I must be putting on a few pounds it was too tight."

Emily stated with a shrug.

"Oh yes, alcohol does wonders to improve the setting," She chortled to herself, "Although it sucks because with the way my body works these days, the alcohol burns right on through me -- unless I chug some seriously hardcore shit... I mean stuff... then it doesn't have much affect on me," Leah had caught herself swearing for some reason. Normally she talked like a sailor and didn't have a problem with it, but for some reason she just couldn't do it around her cousin.

It probably had to do with the fact that in her mind, Emily was the epitome of what a perfect girl was supposed to look like. All throughout their lives growing up, Leah had put her cousin on a pedestal. It had been ripped out from underneath her the second she felt betrayed, but now she was gently placed right back from where she came now that they had made amends. Or more specifically, now that Leah had forgiven her. Anyway, the point was that Leah felt guilty whenever she cussed in front of Emily for reasons that seemed a little silly, but that's how she rolled.

She rolled her eyes, "It did not look like it looked snug on you at all. If you ask me, it looked even better cuz your boobs were popping out all over the place!" Leah laughed, knowing her cousin wasn't nearly as comfortable in that type of scenario as she was.

"Moreso your outlook on the setting, Leah."

She told her cousin with a grin. Emily tilted her head towards her husband and shook her head slightly.

"Might be good, though. It isn't good for you, Leah."

Emily reminded her in a good natured tone of voice. Emily didn't care if Leah cursed, and honestly it was a little amusing that she watched herself so much around Emily. While Emily was the motherly type that didn't mean she didn't realize that others were different and might curse or do things that she didn't imbibe in herself. Emily was okay with that, though.

Emily turned her face slightly away from her cousin, shaking her head.

"I prefer to keep my boobs covered, though."

Emily commented with a slight shrug.

"You did look beautiful, though."

Emily said with a smile.

Leah snorted a laugh as she shrugged, figuring that it probably was her outlook more than most of society. Whatever, she couldn't help the slightly destructive behavior that she got involved into! She was a product of her circumstances! If alcohol and cigarettes actually did any damage to her, she wouldn't have any reason to take part of them. Honest. Heh.

"I know, I know, it's not good for me," She'd heard this from Emily before. And her mother, plenty of times. But honestly, what did it matter if she couldn't get hurt from it? Wasn't like her liver was going to give out on her anytime soon.

Leah laughed, taking the compliment with ease, "Thanks. Although I bet Sam sure liked the dress on you," Here she waggled her eyebrows up and down, quite impressed that she was able to tease her cousin like this now.

Emily was fairly observant and intelligent. That didn't mean anything, though. She knew that there were certain aspects about her that were definitely different, though. Emily was motherly in most aspects and she worried about all of her family members, most of them were chosen too. Emily didn't think that just because someone could do something without repercussions, that didn't mean they should.

"It's not, but I'm not lecturing."

Emily stated with a smile. She really wasn't lecturing! She wouldn't lecture Leah, it wouldn't help their relationship. Emily shook her head.

"Sam doesn't really care what I wear, but yes, he did like that dress."

Emily laughed a little.

"I never asked, are you hungry or thirsty, Leah?"

Nah. Leah knew she wasn't getting a lecture. And for what it counts, she did appreciate Emily's concern and warning. She needed people who cared for her, who went out of their way to tell her to be careful and watch out. It made her feel loved, something she hadn't gotten a lot of in the latest years of her life. Between Emily and her mom, she knew they could get on her nerves a little, but she respected both the women to great levels, and she didn't want to disappoint them.

"Do you even have to ask that??" She barked out a laugh, "I may not be as much of a pig as all the boys, but I am always hungry, cous'!" Leah grinned widely before rolling over and hopping to her feet. She knew her way around their place pretty well, though, so she asked, "I could get it though, if you want."

And then a thought hit her, "Hey, where is Sam anyway? I totally forgot to ask."

Emily didn't feel like she was old, but sometimes she was more mature than those around her. Either way she was like everyone's mom, or an extension of their mom. She wanted to be Leah's friend and cousin again, she didn't want to push it by lecturing her or anything.

"I should have thought before I asked."

Emily grinned and pushed herself up out of the recliner happily. She was generally most at home in the kitchen.

"The boys are pretty bad at times, I'll get it, but you can come with me."

Emily teased, nodding towards the kitchen, looking back at her cousin.

"Port Angeles, he had to pick up a car part."

"Okie dokie," Leah all but skipped to the kitchen as she followed the other girl, finding herself to be in a rather happy mood. She hadn't realized until Emily offered, but she really was quite starving!! And her cousin was one of the world's best cooks, so she knew she'd be well taken care of.

When Em answered her question about Sam, she nodded, "I see. And things are going well for you two? Can't believe y'all have been married for so long, seems just like yesterday," Which was true for the most part. On one side, the day Leah had been in Sam and Emily's wedding seemed like yesterday, but on the other side, it seemed like lifetimes ago. So much had happened in that time frame, but time went by so quickly. Such a weird feeling.

"Will I be seeing any little Sam's or Emily's running around in the near future?" Her eyes twinkled as she asked.

Emily enjoyed cooking, and it did help that she was good at it. She'd made dinner the night before and there was actually some left over that she could heat up for Leah. Emily moved around the kitchen with an ease and grace that not everyone mastered and she didn't have any problems getting out the leftover roast, with vegetables, and setting it out, turning on the oven to heat it up that way (it was always better heated up in the oven).

"Things are fine. We're happy."

Emily said with a smile as she got out a nice portion of the roast and vegetables for Leah and put them on a large plate, putting it into a pan and into the oven.

"You might, but not yet."

Emily stated, though there was a part of her tone that wasn't too sure about that.

Leah's mouth literally began to salivate as she watched Emily fix her something to eat. She always forgot how amazing her cousin was with food until she saw it, and smelled it. It was mouth watering!!

"I'm glad to hear that," She grinned, leaning her body against the counter before crossing her arms against her chest. There was something very freeing about the fact that she could say that and be sincere. It was an awesome feeling. What happened to the days where all she wanted to do was throw darts at images of Emily and Sam? Leah couldn't lie -- she didn't miss those days at all. There was something so burdensome about holding grudges. It drained the life out of ya.

Leah eyed the other girl with suspicion, unsure whether that odd tone was supposed to mean something or not. Truth be told, she would be quite excited at any news of her cousin having children. Well. It would be bittersweet again, because she couldn't have any of her own. But did Leah really want children right now? She had no one to settle down it, it would be impossible right now. So the next best thing, clearly, was being an aunt.

"Get on that, Ems. I want kiddies that I can spoil rotten."

Emily moved around the kitchen for a few moments grabbing the necessary utensils and then settled to wait on the food to finish heating. She didn't think leftovers were as good as when they were first cooked, but it wasn't exactly a bad option either if you were hungry. She smiled at Leah, she had grown up a lot, and honestly Emily was just glad that she was around again. It was nice having the other imprintees around, but LEah and her had been so close for such a long time.

The honest to truth was, Emily wanted children. She'd been taking care of the pack for so long, but she really wanted at least one child of her own. She wanted to be a mother and she wanted a family, but she wasn't going to come out and say that she was hoping for soon around Leah, she didn't feel like it would be nice considering everything. So, Emily laughed off Leah's order.

"All right, Leah, I'll be sure to put that on rush order. How about your food first, huh?"

Emily asked putting on her oven mit and getting the plate out, setting it down on the table for Leah and then grabbing the iced tea out of the fridge and pouring two glasses.

"Let that cool a little and it'll be ready to eat."

Generally the boys would scarf it down too hot...

"Fine, we'll deal with one thing at a time," She rolled her eyes as she teased, not serious about rushing Emily and Sam or demanding babies.

But if she couldn't have some of her own, she was determined to live vicariously, dammit!!

Again, her mouth started to water as she smelled the food, and watched as Emily pulled it out of the oven. Oh man, it looked good, and she knew it would taste just as good because her cousin was a fabulous cook. If she ever needed lessons on cooking, Leah knew she had her mom or Emily to go to, but... well, since they both enjoyed living in the kitchen, what was the point of learning for herself?? haha.

"Wait, are you not going to eat with me?" She asked with a pout, not having thought of the fact that she might be the only one eating. She didn't have a problem with it, but unlike the boys, Leah enjoyed eating for the social aspect that it brought, rather than just filling her hungry, some-what empty stomach. She did laugh, however, when Emily told her to let the food cool, "Yes, mama."
