Current music:the setting sun -- switchfoot

who: Leah & Rachel
what: End of the patrol
when: Thursday night
where: Cullen property
rating: pg-13, language? (knowing Leahface)

Leah was running as fast as she could. The night's air whipping her in the face. The moon glimmering down upon the ground, lighting her way. Currently she was phased into her grey wolf form, doing what she considered the mundane task of patrolling the land of the Cullens.

If it was so mundane, you might ask, then why was she subjecting herself to being a part of this pack? Why did she still phase? Why not leave La Push and end it all already? Well. That was a complicated issue. Leah did want nothing more than to leave the place she grew up in to travel around the world, to experience different cultures and see exotic sights. But... there was just something inside her that wouldn't let her break the tie La Push and the whole phasing thing had on her. Secretly she didn't mind. She might not have liked patrolling, but this running that she was doing now? Favorite thing in the world. If anything, it was the speed that she was reluctant to give up.

She slowed her pace as she came nearer to the house, her wolf body inhaling deeply to catch her breath.

"See or hear anything?" She asked her patrol partner, pretty much knowing they wouldn't have to be dealing with any intruders tonight. Things had been quiet for the last couple years, she had no reason to think that they'd suddenly have unexpected visitors now. Even so, as Jake said, it was best that they be prepared.

She'd been out, for two years she'd been out, and then she came back, and she ended up stuck. That was years ago. She could probably take off now again, but she had a job, a house, and a family around her. Besides, it wasn't like she was aging anything soon, so she didn't have much to worry about. There would be time to get out, and live later. Whenever that would be.

Rachel raced around the Cullen property, no chance in hell of keeping up with her patrol partner, she just wasn't that fast, no matter how hard she pressed herself. So she didn't try. She just ran for the enjoyment.

"I think I saw a couple of squirrels in a bitch fight a mile back. We could break that up?" She was agreeing with Leah, she knew there wouldn't be trouble, they hadn't seen any in years, and with any luck it would stay that way. Still, she did what her brother wanted and an the Cullen grounds. Some days she felt like a guard dog. But hey, whatever.

She slowed her pace, stopping to look around the darkened forest. Lifting her muzzle, she sniffed, breathing in the air. The only vampire smell belonged to all the Cullen's, she knew their scents by now. Nothing she didn't recognize.

God. She envied Rachel for her time away -- two years out in the 'real world' would have been like a slice of heaven. But maybe it would have also been harder. Once you get a taste of something, it's hard not to want it all the more. Besides, those years her friend had been gone was mostly the time in which she was still with Sam. Or maybe that was when he'd broken her heart? Hell if she knew, or cared for that matter. All that time was just a blur in her minds eye. The past that she'd rather not ever have to dwell on.

And for the most part? She didn't. Leah was able to get over a lot of stuff with the passing of time. It was true that time heals all wounds. Though she wasn't completely one hundred percent back to what she used to be(she never would be), she was a hell of a lot more whole than when all this madness began.

When she heard the other girl's voice in her head, she smirked -- or what felt like a smirk, though it probably looked like more of a snarl on her wolf-like face, "We could break them up, or we could show them what a real bitch fight looks like," She laughed, imagining the chaos that would break out if her and Rachel were to get in a fight, "Nah, I think we could probably call it a night, ask them to tie us up and feed us a bone."

Though she had gotten over most of her issues, she would never get over the sarcasm and dramatics. Leah felt like a guard dog not some days but every day. It was true that she'd grown to like some of the vampires, and she didn't cringe every time she smelled them, but the fact still remained that she was protecting what should have been her sworn enemies. It felt unnatural and weird, she'd never be completely okay with it.

Rachel snorted, causing a rabbit to take off that was near by in fright. She could only imagine the scene they would create if both of them just started fighting. Some people would try to break it up, some wouldn't dare, but she was positive people would be taking bets on it. Everyone made bets around here, or that was what it felt like. There would be some night when she would have taken Leah up on it, a good fight, even just for fun was sometimes needed. But she was ready for bed. Check in with their dear king and then give her a damn pillow. She would sleep well.

"Sounds like a plan. I gotta deal with angle biting midgets tomorrow morning." she worked at a youth center, and sometimes the elementry school's gym class came to the center, because it had better equipment to use, and it was close buy. Tomorrow was one of those days.

Rachel didn't mind the sarcasm, because truthfully she felt the same way. Shifters came into creation to fight vampires, and now they were guarding them. Like good loyal pets. As long as they knew better to not joke about that, because Rachel would probably snap at them.

She took one look around her, and then turned, taking a different direction to head back. Check in with the brady bunch and then get the hell out of here. She was hungry too, a snack before bed was in order. Maybe getting fed wasn't such a bad idea. She knew for a fact that at least two of the Cullen's could really cook, even if they didn't eat. "Lets check in with the Brat and get out of here." even if he was her Alpha, Rachel would always harass her baby brother.

Hell yes there would be betting! A fight between Rachel and Leah would be epic -- maybe not quite like an Alpha fight, but when you get two female wolves going at each others throats? You better believe there's going to be blood. Leah would probably bet herself -- on Rachel for the win, of course, because she knew that girl was feisty. Leah might have had the speed, and she might have been a good fighter, but she didn't think she was as good as Rach.

"I still don't understand how you can handle working with kids," She mentioned, running toward the place near the house where she left her clothes. After however many years of this job, Leah had the system of phasing and changing clothes down to an art, "But then again, you're probably nicer than I would be. I'd probably end up back handing one of them ankle biters..." Leah chuckled to herself, imagining the scene in her head.

Leah gave her agreement to checking in with 'the Brat' before shifting back to human form, scrambling into her clothes before stretching out her limbs. These days, it was hard to say which form she preferred; both wolf and human were huge parts of who she was. As she waited for Rachel, she whistled softly to herself, her thoughts along the same line -- food. That was the one thing she appreciated about the Cullens -- they always had really good food to eat.

"I've been highly trained." she joked, thinking to some of the kids that were there, that she saw after school got out as well. Sometimes she thought, that if she wasn't as strong or as quick as she was, she wouldn't have lasted. Babysitting wasn't what she wanted to do. This wasn't where her interests really were, but it would have to make do until she was out of here once again. "Some days I feel like it. But then they get all sad faced when you get mad at them." she started thinking of the different kids. They'd start pouting, their eyes would get big and tear up. Kids were just evil.

Reaching her clothes, she phased back to human form, easily by now, and shoved on her shorts and baggy shirt before emerging from the trees. She didn't really want to stay long, as much as she loved Cullen food, she loved her bed so much more. Sleeping was such a fantastic thing. "Coming in, or should I just go say goodnight real quick?" she asked, walking toward Leah. Assuming Jake was there, if he wasn't, she'd just say goodnight to which ever one of the Cullens was there and get the hell out. She wasn't really up for hanging out one on one, even if one of them was going to be her sister-in-law some day.

Rachel started to head toward the house, looking up at the lights that lit up the night as she got closer. It was a beautiful house, a dream house. Still, Rachel would take her shabby little cottage any day. She ran a hand through her hair, rolled her shoulders, and stretched her neck to the side, a few bones cracking in the process.

By this point in time, Leah had given up her stubborn pride when asked whether she was going to come in or not. She'd lasted for months, declining and rejecting the offers... but one could only eat like a wolf so many times before they got sick of it. Especially when one thought it was as disgusting as Leah thought it was. Though she'd honed her skills of shifting, she still found it hard to eat like an animal. Human food was so much better than that.

"Yeah, I'll come in..." She shrugged, making it seem nonchalant even though she was quite starving at this point and had the extreme urge to raid the Cullen frig.

Leah swung her hands at her sides, still whistling lightly to herself before speaking up again, "What ya gonna do after this?"

She shrugged, and headed toward the house at a walk. Her arms crossed over her chest as she walked, bare feet making no sound on the ground as she went. "Go to bed." she said right away. She had no desire to really do much of anything else. Between working and patrols, her social life was dead these days. It was kind of pathetic.

"How sad is that? I go to work, come home, go to my other work, eat a lot, and sleep. I'm totally waisting my twenties." she said with a longing sigh. She really needed to get back to going out and having fun. Just because she wasn't aging, and she could get back to her travels when she was done, didn't mean she didn't want to have some fun. Women in their twenties were still supposed to be having fun.

She looked up at the house as they approached and sighed. "Lets make this quick."

They were almost to the house, the looming beauty that stood before them, and at Rachel's response she let out a snort. "Wow, when did we get so pathetic?" They were in their early twenties! They had no excuse not to be having the time of their lives, other than the fact that they had certain responsibilities and obligations that normal kids their age didn't have. What would that be like, Leah wondered, to be a normal twenty-something year old who didn't have to worry about all this mystical crap? She bet it was nice. The only thing she'd care about was the next boy she was going to shag, har.

"We have got to change this, Rach. I can't just stand here not having a life anymore, what happened to when we used to go out and party? Let's do that again! Maybe not tonight," She said with a shrug, knowing that both of them were pretty tired after the patrol, "But can we? I need some excitement in my life..."

Leah nodded her head, agreeing that she didn't want to linger. The last thing she wanted was to get in one of those awkward conversations with Mr. and Mrs. Cullen -- they were sweet bloodsuckers(as sweet as bloodsuckers could be, she guessed), but they made her feel awkward because they were almost too nice. She opened the door to the house, not bothering to knock anymore, looking around to see if she could find Jake to give him the 'good news' that there were no intruders, "Do you know if he's even here?" She smelled his scent, but that didn't necessarily mean he was there right now, he was always in and out of this place.

"When all of the boys became tame." she said with a sigh. Even if they hadn't imprinted, they were dating someone. They were getting married. Even Becca was married, long before this ever happened, but married, and happy. Rachel and Leah were the odd ones out. "Everyone's got a leash but us, and they're all insane." she commented with a smirk.

Or maybe she was just jealous. Who knew? Yeah, Rachel had no objections to finding someone to be with, but by the looks of it, she wasn't going to be finding anyone around here. Depressing. "We can, and we will. Say this weekend? We should totally drive to the city for the night, book a weekend in a hotel. Have fun." screw the boys here for a while, they could handle it.

As for if Jake was here, she had no idea. "No clue." she said with a sigh. "Here, I'll go find out, and if he's there, I'll call you over, if not, we'll head home." she offered, before picking up her pace and sprinting the rest of the distance to the house, taking the stairs to the door two at a time, landing quietly on the step before knocking.

Leah had to agree with her friend -- it must have been when all the boys 'went tame' that their crazy lives started to evaporate. What was that about? Why was it that it revolved around the boys? That seemed wrong to her, but if the people you generally hang out with and relate to stop being party animals, you're not exactly going to have anyone to go with you to party. And really, partying by yourself was just sad and kind of depressing.

But at least Leah could be grateful -- so, so, so grateful -- that she still had Rachel. They were two out of three girls, both single probably because they hadn't imprinted like the rest of them, or like Becca who had been married to start with. The odd ones out, it would seem, but at least she wasn't alone.

Oh, and Leah could definitely attest to the fact that she was jealous. Not that extreme bitter sort of jealousy she use to have, but simply envious that the others had people who loved them and who they could spend time with. She wouldn't admit this to many people, but Leah got lonely quite a bit, and really just wanted to find someone who she could love. Though this did not mean that she was pro-imprinting. Hell nah, son. She was still the biggest rioter against it that you will ever meet.

"Alright," She said, looking up to the sky and whistling again as she waited outside for Rachel to see if Jake was around. She kind of hoped he wasn't around because she didn't really want to deal with him -- he was cool, she genuinely respected him as her Alpha, but when he was around Nessie he just got too much for her to handle. More often then not, she sort of just wanted to wring his neck. Did he even realize how much he'd changed since he imprinted? Whatever, things were what they were. At least everyone else was happy and moving on with their lives.
