Jacob had been in complete control of his phasing since a little after he did it for the first time. It was simple for him to control it, at least when he was around other people. But more and more lately, he was phasing unexpectedly. He wasn't sure of the reason why, but it was irritating the hell out of him. Having to wear the clothes of Jasper or Emmett was uncomfortable, since the smell still lingered there no matter how many times he washed them.

And now his cell phone was broken. Once he could afford one, he got a plan and a little crappy device so Billy could get a hold of him whenver he wanted to. Billy, as of late, had been more and more paranoid of Jake running off again, even though he knew that he had imprinted on Nessie. Old habits die hard.

He walked into the house without knocking, as usual. Nessie was in class with Edward, he wasn't about to interrupt that. No way was he going to piss off his future father-in-law. "Bells?" he said in a normal tone, knowing she could hear him even if he whispered it.

Bella had wasted no time in getting ready for her outing with Jake this morning. She had tossed on a light blue sweater and a pair of jeans that Alice had purchased for her and kept her dark hair down for today. She had departed from the cottage shortly after Renesmee had started her lessons with Edward, and was currently laying on the couch in the living room of the main house.

Why couldn't she sleep? She was willing herself to do so as hard as she could, and yet it still wouldn't happen. She was thrilled to be able to spend a lifetime with Edward, but she really missed sleeping and dreaming about Edward. Those were the best kinds of dreams.

"Yeah, I'm coming," she announced and she swung her legs over the side of the couch so that she could stand up. She jogged lightly over to where Jake was and tripped over her own two feet on the way there. "Oops," she grinned, and rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "I wonder if they have 'wolf insurance' for phones, yet."

"Aren't you supposed to be graceful or something?" Jake joked, holding his hands out to catch her. It was one part of Bella he was glad hadn't changed. Despite the changes she'd gone through since she became a vampire over five years ago. It made her more...normal, which Jake needed sometimes to keep his feet grounded in the little bit of reality around him.

"Wolf insurance? I'll have to ask Verizon about that," he laughed, nudging Bella as he lazily slung his arm over her shoulder. "Let's just get me something that won't shatter into a million pieces if I don't get out of my clothes before I phase." He wasn't too happy about the fact that he wasn't as in control as he used to be about phasing, it was irritating the hell out of him that he couldn't get to the bottom of it.

"Did you really think I would become completely different?" she smirked and held onto his hand gently when he held them out for her. She would never get tired of having Jake around. He was her best friend and he met the world to her, and honestly? Had she never met Edward that day, Jake would probably be the one she was married to right now. But that simply wasn't the case; Edward was the other half of her soul and not having him in her life would mean that she would barely even be existing.

"They'll probably think that you're drunk," she smiled and slipped her arm around his waist. Why did he have to be such a giant that she felt like a midget? "Maybe you should get a metal carrying case or something. Or, you know, take off your clothes first. .. Not that I want to see it or that I want Renesmee to see it because I'll strangle you silly if you do," she warned as they headed out the front door and toward her car. "Do you want to drive?" she asked, already dangling the keys in front of his face.

"Nah, I was hoping you wouldn't actually," he answered honestly. It was so weird to look back at the time when he was hopelessly in love with her, it all felt sort of like a fuzzy dream. But, like all the guys told him, you can't control who you imprint on. It was just painfully ironic that it was the daughter of the woman he loved and the man he loathed.

Jake laughed as she non-chalantly threatened his life. "Titanium or something indestructable. And the whole clothes thing isn't always in my control these days. Sometimes...it just happens before I can stop it." He was mostly frustrated with himself for losing his ability to control his phasing like he used to. "Do I get to drive one of the fancy cars?" he asked, looking like a kid in a candy shop.

If Bella were to be honest with herself, it was still a little weird that Jake was no longer pining after her, but rather her daughter. How odd was that? This entire imprinting business was odd. And what would have happened if Renesmee hadn't come around? Would he have imprinted on someone else?

"Maybe I can build one. Or get Emmett or Jasper or Edward to make a case for you," she suggested. She would have to ask Edward about it later. "Yep, you get to drive mine," she grinned and handed him the keys before slipping into the passenger's seat.

The past five and a half years or so have been so confusing and strange. He'd basically invited himself into the Cullen family. Sure, he'd be a part of it eventually. Like he'd said before about Sam and Emily, not many girls can resist that amount of devotion. He wasn't in any rush down the aisle with Nessie...she didn't even look fully grown yet. But soon, probably sooner than he thought, they'd be together. Weird how things change so quickly.

He grabbed the keys excitedly. "See? This is one of the many reasons why you're awesome," he said as he climbed into the driver's seat. He was still driving his rebuilt Rabbit when he didn't feel like running to and from La Push. "I'm sure you all can build just about anything. If you weren't so worried about getting found out, you'd have some sort of weird mechanics factory going on here."

In Bella's eyes Jacob was family. He was her best friend and the romance that could have been. How could she not have him around? He was there for her through everything, and he really had no choice in the matter. She had practically adopted him into the family, even if a few select members didn't care for him all that much. But you know what? She didn't really care. Jake meant the world to her so Rosalie could take a flying leap if she didn't like it.

"Oh, yes. I'm sure that that's the main reason, Jake," she grinned and slipped into the passenger's seat. She knew that it wasn't necessary, but she buckled herself in anyways. "A mechanics factory?" she snorted and rolled her eyes. "Maybe an automobile repair shop. Rose is pretty good at fixing cars."

There were times Jake thought about when they'd all be in school together. All of the Cullens could pose as brothers and sisters just fine. How would he fit in? It was a strange thought to have, especially since Leah and his sisters didn't share it with him. He didn't expect them to go with him when the Cullens moved.

"You know, if Blondie would let me near the garage, I could probably give her a run for her money. I did build two motorcycles after all. And my own car. And your truck, in fact." He laughed to himself as Bella buckled herself in. He was so happy for her little human quirks. When she'd been changed, he was so scared that he'd lose his Bella, but, no, there she was, right next to him. He pulled out of the driveway and headed towards the mall.

Bella wouldn't have minded going to school with Jake, really, and it used to make her upset that he had to go to school on the reservation. Granted, that was when Edward had left her to rot in Italy, but Jake had been her sunshine. And really? He still was her sunshine. He was her best friend and the person that could make her feel better no matter what.

"Yeah, the motorcycles that you squealed to my dad about," she replied with a slight glare. She would probably never forgive him for that. Writing down all of her human memories in a journal had definitely helped to keep her past alive for her; in fact? She remembered all of it!

"Maybe you guys should have a.. car building contest or something," she suggested with a grin. "It'd be interesting to see."

When he'd imprinted on Nessie, all the pain he had been through from loving Bella so much had gone away. He still loved her, it's just the love shifted to something else, something new. And it was definitely something Jake preferred over how much it hurt to know he'd never have her.

"Hey, I apologized for that, like, a million times," he reminded her as he drove. Sure, he was going way faster than normal, but it wasn't like there were any speed traps or anything around. "Desperate times had called for desperate measures. Still feel bad about it, though," he added at the end, shrugging a little to himself.

"Give me a few years to save up the cash. She's probably got way more connections to parts than I do right now. Besides, the playing field should be even, so I can kick her ass."

Bella missed the attention that Jake had given her; and now that attention was focused on Renesmee. Her daughter. At least Edward was able to read minds and would be able to hear all of Jake's thoughts before he did them. He better keep his mind 'dirt-free' for quite some time, that much was for sure.

"Yeah yeah, but I'll never forgive you for it," she smirked and grinned over at him cheekily. It was amusing to annoy Jake; it never got old!

"Jake.. please. I could get you the parts pretty easily," she pointed out as she wriggled a finger at him accusingly.

He had to admit that he and Bella didn't hang out nearly as much as they used to. It all seemed like such a long time ago to him. Was it really only 6 years or so since she'd come down to La Push as much as possible? God, so many things have changed since then.

"We have centuries for you to forgive me. Someday you will," he smirked back, taking his eyes off the road for a moment.

"I know you can, but I'd like to be able to get the parts myself. It'd be like cheating if I had you get them for me." He and Rosalie would probably never get along, but it was fun to try to see how many ways he could piss her off.

Things had changed a little too much, actually. It made her want to hug him and never let go. Which was a possibility for her, actually. But the thought of him growing older and getting sickly made her uncomfortable. She didn't know what she would do while Jake and Nessie continued to age and her and Edward remained the same. It was a little scary to think about.

...Could wolves become vampires? That was definitely something she'd need to look into.

"I have centuries. I'm not sure if you do.." she trailed off quietly, a frown now firmly set in place upon her lips.

"No, not really. She knows that I'll always be on your side, besides she'd probably have Emmett get the parts for her or something. Too busy doing her hair, I don't know," she shrugged, chipping off the nail polish from her nails.

Looking back, Jake couldn't believe the path that led him to where he was today. He went from a poor kid on the rez in love with the vampire's girlfriend to an Alpha wolf who'd life was tied to a half-vampire/half-human who was the daughter of the vampire's wife.

"Well, yeah, if I keep pissing off Blondie, I'm sure she'll tear me apart if I'm not good." He'd have to be taken off this earth kicking and screaming to be taken away from Nessie. "That's the one advantage over her, I could just tell her I see a split end and she'd flip out."

Bella ran her fingers through her dark hair and proceeded to rest her elbow on the door. She was grateful that she was used to Jake's.. unique smell by now. Though he really could use a shower with lots of floral body wash.

She smirked and rolled her eyes. "I'm surprised she hasn't tried to stab you yet with how much you annoy her. But she really can't do much of anything since I think that she knows both Edward and I would rip her up. Well, I would at least," she snickered and looked at him before reaching forward to put on the stereo. Embarrassingly enough, Britney Spears started to blast through the car. "My.. mom sent this to me."

Jake looked over and noticed Bella leaning towards the window. He opened it a little for her to let some air in. He didn't know how he smelled to her, but he knew that she smelled weirdly sweet to him. The smell didn't bother him half as much as it did at first, but some fresh air wouldn't hurt either of them.

"I heal quick," he winked. "I think Edward would have my back...you and Ness-, er, Renesmee would be really sad if he didn't," Jake pointed out. They were almost to the mall...he loved the speed that he could reach in this car. It was way better than his old Rabbit. He groaned when Britney Spears came through the speakers. "God, Bells, seriously? Even if she sent it to you, why would you poison your speakers with this crap?"

Bella couldn't help it when she started to laugh when he freaked out over Britney Spears. Oh, he would definitely pay for that one! She really wasn't too fond of Britney Spears but she missed her mom and for some reason this reminded her of her.

She turned up the music louder and started to sing along to it; badly. "You drive me craaazy, I just can't sleep! I'm so excited, I'm in too deep!"

Bella's singing, although slightly more pleasant than it was when she was a human, caused Jake to drive faster. The sooner they got there, the sooner his ears would stop wanting to bleed. Usually, their taste in music was pretty even, but this was too much for his Alpha male mind to handle.

"I'm not singing along!" he said above the music, getting off the exit for the mall. "You're absolutely ridiculous right now!" he couldn't help but laugh though. Bella was so into the song.

Bella was glad that the song came out as she had intended; badly. Her goal was to make Jake cringe and she was happy to do her job. It was very amusing, after all.

"Oh, but Jakey!" she trilled and placed the back of her hand to her forehead. "I will die if you do not grace me with your singing capabilities."

Thank God the mall was in sight. He looked at her and shook his head. "I don't even know the words! I'm not singing!" he said above the beats.

"Oh look, there's the mall!" he said way too excitedly as pressed down on the gas. It was really funny, but he really didn't wanna listen to Britney Spears for very much longer.

Bella frowned at him as she crossed her arms over her chest. Why was he being so difficult? Couldn't he just make her happy and sing along? Then again, she really didn't know why she was acting like an idiot right now. Maybe Jake just brought that out in her.

"Fine," she sighed and pulled the CD out to pop it back into its case. She leaned her head against the seat and closed her eyes. She really missed sleeping. "But I would watch your speed - the cops like to hang out around here and my dad will skin both you and me alive if he finds out we've been speeding. Invincible or not."

He stuck his tongue out playfully as she pouted. "Aw, c'mon, Bells," he pleaded, poking her slightly. "I'll sing on the way home, promise. Any song you want." Truth was, he knew the stupid Britney Spears song, courtesy of his sisters.

He slowed down, forgetting that they weren't in Forks anymore and Charlie wouldn't back them up if Jake got pulled over. He pulled into the parking lot and checked out the window to make sure there wasn't much sun. "We're clear to exit the vehicle, Mrs. Cullen," he said in an official tone of voice. "Now let's go get me an indestructable cell phone.

She grinned and looked over at him. "Promise?" she smirked, already fidgeting. Once they pulled into the parking lot, she unbuckled herself from the car and looked up at the position of the sun from her window.

"Mrs. Cullen," she mused, looking down at her left hand for what seemed like the millionth time, and yet she would never get tired of doing that. She was so thrilled to be married to Edward.

Bella popped open her door and stepped out and was on the other side of the car beside Jake within a matter of seconds.

"Promise," he said, grinning. "But you can't tell anyone, deal?" the last he needed was Edward or Nessie makig fun of him for knowing girly pop songs.

Bella was next to him in the blink of an eye. "That's something I'm really never gonna get used to with you. Watch that in the mall, you'll freak some poor teeny-bopper out," he laughed, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and hugging her to his side quickly. He let her go and started walking into the mall. "Do you know where the cell phone place even is? I don't go here a lot...or ever, in fact."

"Fine, deal. But since it'll probably be in your mind when we get back.. I can't promise that Edward won't find out," she pointed out and leaned into his body when he hugged her.

Once he let go, she reached out to take his hand as she tugged him toward the mall. "Uhm.. no. I'm not really a mall dweller, but I'm sure there's a map or something."

"I'll think about something totally innocent, like the theme song to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or something lame like that. He'll tune me out soon enough." He had a feeling, though, that Edward would be watching his thoughts more and more lately since Nessie was getting older and looking less like a child and more like a woman with every passing day.

He let out an "oof" when Bella pulled him. "Maps, I can work with maps," he chuckled, catching up in pace with her. When they got into the mall, Jake searched for a map and started walking towards it. "It's downstairs, next to the taco place...sweet. I can get grub, too."

"I don't know. He's been keeping an eye on you. Well.. not really, but you know what I mean," she fixed quickly and waved her hand around a bit. And it was true - Edward was monitoring Jake's thoughts more often than not now. He was practically dating their daughter now and there was no way that Edward would let him think anything inappropriate. Ever.

She kept beside him as they entered the mall, but she was already receiving quite a few glances from passerby. She cleared her throat a little bit and turned back to Jake, purposely reaching out to find his hand again. "Are you ever not hungry?"

He snorted and smirked. "Yeah, like you guys have so much to worry about from little ol' me. For the time being, at least," he shrugged as they walked. He didn't know when he and Nessie were going to start dating or whatever, but he knew he'd probably have to ask Bella and Edward permission before they even had their first date.

"That's like asking if the sky is ever not blue, Bells," he squeezed her hand as they made their way down the escalator to the first floor. He noticed the people staring and he stood closer to her, protectively looming. It wasn't every day that you saw an ethereally gorgeous girl hanging out with a nearly seven foot tall Native American guy.

"Do I need to remind you about what you thought about me in the tent, Jake? I'm sure that Edward can remember it with perfect clarity if you need a reminder," she pointed out with a stern glance at him but laughed a second later. Even the musical tone of her own laugh startled her. "Ugh, I'll never get used to that."

"Very true. It kind of makes me wish that I could eat something with you," she sighed and stuck close to his side as they strode through the mall together. She would rather have them think that he was her boyfriend rather than her soon to be son-in-law. Creepy.

"That was forever ago...and things are way different now," he pointed out before laughing a little along with her. She was right, the sound of her laugh was still a little weird. They had centuries to get used to her vampirism though.

"You could always pretend to eat and cough it up like a hairball like the others do. Even though you don't enjoy food the same way, it still tastes damn good when you cook it." They found the store and walked inside, Jake feeling awestruck by all of the phones around him. "I don't even know where to start."
