Who: Jake and Nessie
What: Hanging out and watching movies, as usual

Even though the threat of just about everything bad and evil was gone, Jake still insisted on patrolling the area around the Cullens' house every night, just in case. Inside that house was something precious to him and he wouldn't let anything slip by him just because he got careless.

He had suggested that him and Nessie hang out that night, even though they hung out pretty much whenever they could both get a free moment. Aside from Bella, she was his best friend in the whole wide world. It was Valentine's Day, but he and Nessie weren't anywhere near that whole "celebrating" it thing. Long ago he'd decided that he wouldn't rush anything with her once she was fully grown, he'd let things happen naturally. Which meant that he would wait until she was ready...and that Edward and Bella wouldn't kill him.

He wore a nicer shirt than usual and showered back in La Push after patrol, even though he didn't wanna make any sort of big deal about Valentine's Day at all. She was the one with the extensive movie collection, so he just showed up at the house (even though he still slept outside of it most of the time) and strolled inside, like he usually did.

The moment Jake has asked her to hang out and watch movies, Nessie hadn't been able to stop smiling. She always seemed to get so happy when she knew she was going to see him. There was nothing better than spending time with Jake and he was definitely her best friend in the whole world. He'd been there her whole life, even though really that wasn't too long compared to normal humans, but he'd still been there every moment she was growing up, every milestone she went through. He was prevalent in all her memories and she still had visions in her head of biting on his fingers when she was a baby. Every image involving him was so vivid in her head and every memory with him in it was a good one.

She hadn't failed to notice that he'd asked to hang out with her on Valentine's Day. Sure, it was a a very regular thing for them to spend time together and it was usually something they did almost every day if not every day. But that didn't mean she didn't notice this particular date. Whatever it meant, she'd have to not focus on that for the time being. There could be so much confusion if she even thought about it. The only important thing right now was that she focussed on her time with her best friend and had fun as usual. Nothing would stop her from taking advantage of every moment she could spend with Jake.

She'd changed into some comfy jeans and a cute top and then prepared the movie watching snacks. Even though she preferred blood to food, that didn't mean she didn't like to eat food too. Especially junk food which she was incredibly fond of. She had an array of munchies and when she heard the front door open, she knew it was him and she bounded out into the hallway with a huge smile. "Hi, Jake!" She grinned, stopping in front of him and giving him a hug.

Jake's face broke into a smile as he picked her up and twirled her around. "Hey there, Ness," he said warmly, setting her back on her feet and taking a step back. It hadn't gotten past his attention that she was growing up in front of his eyes. It wasn't as fast as before and he certainly was glad for that. No longer would she grow by inches per day, there were now more subtle changes in her face and figure.

"So, what are we watching? Even more importantly, what are we eating?" he asked grinning devilishly as he headed towards the kitchen. "I'm starving," he pulled out a chicken leg and munched on it as he walked back in the living room. Something that never changed was his appetite. He plopped down on the couch and patted the place next to him.

Nessie grinned widely when he picked her up so easily and twirled her around. She loved how warm he was and how good it felt when they hugged like this. It was so safe and comfortable and thrilling. She always felt so at home with him and that was the best feeling in the world. She knew she'd have a good time with him and she knew she'd always be safe. She knew that a lot of it was the protective thing he felt over her but she hoped that he noticed she wasn't a little kid anymore. She certainly no longer looked like one.

Nessie laughed and rolled her eyes a bit at his immediate mention of food and his beeline to the kitchen. She watched as he muched on the chicken leg and laughed. "You look like a caveman." She commented shaking her head and heading towards the living room after him where he was perched on the couch. "Observe our various movie munchies." She gestured to the table where she'd laid out all kind of candies, chips and even some baked goods. "Is this to your satisfactory, sir?" She asked in a teasing tone, standing and moving to the TV as she leaned over to peer at the various action movies on the shelf.

Jake had never been around someone as he watched them grow up before. He grew up with the guys on the rez, sure, but it wasn't the same. He didn't spend all of his free time with them just so he could play hide and go seek for hours on end or go hunting with them for deer or lion or whatever she preferred that day. He didn't sacrifice much for his friendships with everyone else. But to be with Nessie, he nearly gave up his home and his family. Thankfully everything worked out in the end.

"I shaved!" he said with his mouth full as he chucked the bone from the leg in the trash bin. "Cavemen had beards," he pointed out. His eyes widened as he saw the array of food laid out before him. "Nessie, I don't say thing nearly enough, but you're the best, you know that, right?" he grabbed a cookie and smiled. His eyes wandered over to her as she looked for a movie. She was just like the rest of them, graceful, beautiful...but he hadn't taken nearly as much time to get to know them as well as he knew her. Plus, it didn't hurt that she was his imprint.

Besides her family, Jake was one of the only people who had been around since she was born and had stuck around. She kenw he didn't age because of the werewolf thing and it was the reason he'd stayed the same the whole time and the image of him in her head hadn't changed. And it was also comforting in a way because he was always the same Jake she loved being around. She'd heard about everything that had happened with him and her mom in the past, and knew they were still close, but she still thought of him as her best friend. He could have more than one best friend, right?

Nessie laughed heartily at his comment about her being the best after seeing the food she'd laid out for them and shook her head, the smile on her lips not fading at all. "It's true what they say... the way to a man's heart is through his stomach." Finding a random action movie, she moved on towards the romantic comedies and just plucked out a random one, knowing she'd like anything she popped in the player. "Okay," she said, turning back around and facing Jake, holding up both DVDs, "action or romantic comedy first?" She alternated holding each of them up, shrugging.

There was something different about the way he associated with Nessie. Maybe it was because they connected on a different level then his other friends. He has so many different layers of friends now. The guys from the pack were just starting to become close to him again, now that it was sure he wasn't going to go running off somewhere. He didn't even consider Bella his friend anymore, she was far more than that to him. Not a sister, not a mother, it was beyond any blood tie. And Nessie was the center of his universe, his reason for staying in a house full of vampires, his reason for just about everything for the past five and a half years.

He laughed as he chewed on the cookie, closing his eyes as if it was the best thing he'd ever eaten. He studied the two movies in her hands and chewed his lip. "You choose, I said we can watch whatever you wanted," he said, staring at her eyes instead of the movies. Just like Bella's he thought, as he always did when he looked at her. "I don't care which one, it's your movie night." He settled into the couch and got comfortable, stretching his long legs in front of him.

"You are no help," she said with a pout, peering at both the covers of the movies, holding them in front of her. She really didn't care which to watch first and she had been hoping Jake would decide for her. He was always saying and doing things like that, letting her pick things out, choose activities, take the lead and while it was sweet and she loved it most of the time, tonight it wasn't helping with her dilemma. She bit her bottom lip. "Eeeny Meeny Miney Mo!" And with that she decided on the action movie. "Action flick it is."

She quickly popped it in the player and turned everything on, using about five remotes to do so. They had so many gadgets and electronics in the Cullen house. As she waited for everything to start and come on, she plucked a few gummy worms from the bowl and starting sucking on one, tugging at it between her teeth. "So, it's the 14th, you know. I guess that means you're my Valentine. Up to the challenge?" She grinned, nudging his shoulder with hers as she sat down on the couch, relatively close to him. She got comfortable immediately.

The pout on her face would have been heartbreaking if he didn't know that she was joking around. It was a strange thing that something as simple as choosing between an action or romantic comedy didn't bother Jake when it came to Nesie. Normally he would have begged for the action flick, then prayed whoever he was watching it with would fall asleep before the romantic comedy could be put into the DVD player. But no, Nessie came first in just about all things.

He nudged her back, "Why'd you think I let you pick the movie?" he joked, leaning forward to grab some chips. She was getting older which meant that she'd be around 16 maybe, physically. Mentally, she was much more mature. And Jake knew how 16 year olds could be, he was one once, after all. Technically he still was...sort of. "What am I supposed to do as your Valentine? I didn't get you chocolates or flowers or anything..."

Nessie smiled and shook her head, shrugging at his question. "No idea. I've never had a Valentine before. Something tells me though that you should cater to my every whim and I really, really want to listen to that." She grinned, reaching for a soda on the table and popping open the can as she took a sip and then set it down. "And, you know, in the future, chocolate couldn't hurt. Every girl likes chocolate." She loved joking around with Jake, it was so natural and easy and fun. She felt completely comfortable with him in every way and knew it was a mutual thing.

As the previews finished on the DVD and the movie itself started to play, Nessie reached forward and grabbed the bowl of gummy bears she'd put on the table, placing it in her lap so she couldn't have to be constantly leaning forward to reach for them. She moved a bit closer to Jake, her head immediately going down on his shoulder, something that usually happened when they watched movies together. She got so comfortable and he was always so warm that it felt nice and it was just a normal occurrence. It almost felt weird and strange not to sit like this with him when they had a movie night.

Every once in a while, Jake would totally forget that Nessie wasn't actually the age she appeared. She was only really six or so. It was so easy to forget that fact. By all accounts, she could go anywhere and no one would know that she was the same age as a kindergartener. All they would see what a beautiful sixteen year old girl before them.

"Well, you've got the catering to your every whim thing right," he answered with a wry smile. "I'll remember the chocolate thing next year. Promise." She rested her head on his shoulder and he smiled to himself. This was the moments he liked best with her. Quiet and comfortable and completely effortless. He stole a gummy bear out of the bowl in her lap and popped it into her mouth. "So do you have any whims I have to fufill?" he asked jokingly.

Sometimes Nessie wondered fi it was weird for everyone around her knowing that thought she looked fifteen or sixteen years old, she was really only six technically. Yes, she had the mind and intelligence and development of a sixteen year old but she had only been alive for six or so years. It must be strange for her family and her friends to wrap her mind around it. She wanted to ask Jake about that one day when she reemembered to, just to know what he thought about all of it. She was curious. It was probably why her dad still saw her as a ittle girl because really, she was one technically. But at the same time, she was sixteen so she wanted to be treated as such; not that she minded having everyone be so protective and loving towards her. It felt nice to know she had so many people looking out for her.

"Good, chocolate is like crack for girls. Totally addictive." She giggled slightly and chewed on a few more gummy bears as she rested comfortably on his shoulder, her legs tucked up underneath her. "Hmm," she said, tapping her chin as she thought, "well, I think I'd like to request that you finally take me out on your bike sometime soon because you keep putting that off and I think I'd also like to request we go for ice cream in the next few days because we have run out in the house thanks to you. That's it for now. Expect a longer list in the next few days."

Jake was kind of wary about taking her out on the bike. He knew she was more graceful than Bella and wasn't likely to fall off or anything, but it was more of a question of whether or not Edward and Bella would allow it. "Yeah, well, we'll talk to your mom and dad about that. I'm sure Edward'll have a few words to say," he frowned a little. "But ice cream is totally doable. I can handle ice cream," he reassured her.

He could only imagine what could possibly be on the longer list, he didn't know if he should be scared or eager about what was in store for him. The movie had already started and he was barely paying attention to it. Nessie tended to suck all of his attention away from anything else, without meaning to. And he was alright with that.

Nessie rolled her eyes when Jake immediately mentioned her father protesting to the bike thing. It wasn't like she had to drive it on her own. She just wanted to ride on the back with him while he did the driving all the while wearing a helmet. Was that so bad? "I'll sweet talk my dad into it. You know he can't resist this face." She put on her best pout and then turned it into a dazzling (something she got from her father) smile and a little giggle. "Plus, I've never been on it and I just want to ride with you not drive the thing myself. Sometimes my parents forget that I'm kind of indestructable like all of you." She shook her head with a small huff and went back to her position on his shoulder.

"Can we go to that ice cream place in Port Angeles, then?" She asked, popping a few more gummy bears in her mouth and taking between chewing. "They had the most amazing banana split there the last time and I've been wanting to go back ever since." She couldn't remember when they'd gone before, she knew that had, but she'd been dying to go back. "I'm a junk food junkie, I've realized. I prefer the blood and everything but I totally love all the junk food. Good thing I can't get fat!" She said with a laugh, lifting her shirt a bit to reveal her belly button and patting her stomach playfully.

"Not many people can," Jake said under his breath, smiling at her. It was hard to resist saying no to someone with Nessie's face and personality. There was just something about her that just about no one could deny her what she wanted. Not that she was spoiled, but if she really wanted something from him or Edward, she'd probably get it in two seconds flat. "We'll see, I'm not gonna promise anything...we'll see what they say."

It had been a while since he'd gone on a hunt with her, but since she preferred blood above anything else, and he didn't mind hunting, he'd go with her when everyone else was busy. It was a weird way of bonding, but anything to get to spend time with her was okay with him. "Yeah, the whole 'no getting fat' thing really works out well. Imagine if I was a normal human? I'd be huuuuge!" he laughed, gesturing his hands to emphasize how big he'd be.

Jake somtimes forgot that Nessie had the incredibly sensitive senses that her parents did and she almost always caught things he muttered under his breath or whispered. She smiled at his comment but decided not to say anything about it. "Fine, but we're going to ask them soon, then. I'm dying to go for a ride on that thing." She'd been thinking about it forever. Just the speed alone was enough of an enticement for her. She got that from her dad too, the need for and love of speed. She assumed she'd probably drive like him when that day came as well. Alice had already promised to get her a fast car as soon as she got her license. Maybe a Porche or something.

Nessie had to laugh when she pictured Jacob if he had been able to gain weight, he would be massive with the amount of food he ate. "I don't even want to think about how much you would weigh. You eat more than all of Forks put together!" She covered her mouth as she laughed, not wanting to spit out any of the candy still in her mouth. She always found herself laughing like an idiot when Jake was around and when he laughed and smiled at her, she got this warm feeling in the pit of her stomach, though that had only been happening lately. She pushed it aside for the time being. "It's a good thing we have plenty of money too because stocking the fridge gets pretty costly." She smiled, letting him know she was only teasing. The entire family had gotten used to him being around and, with the exception of Rosalie, even liked it. They didn't mind at all having the fridge stocked for Jacob and for Nessie when the mood struck her to eat human food.

Minus the part where she was half vampire, Nessie seemed so normal to him. Like the whole vampire thing was just a blip on the radar. It was something he didn't really focus on, nor care about. She was half vampire and his friend and would eventually be the love of his life. He knew her senses were better than a human's, but he never said anything out loud that he didn't want her to hear. Smirking he nodded as she talked. "If they give me the go ahead, consider me your motorcycle guru."

So he ate a lot, that would never change as long as he lived. Which, considering the lifespan of vampires, he'd be around for a pretty long time. He'd be with Nessie for forever and things would be perfect, as long as they didn't have any unfriendly visitors. "Yeah, you have money. The grocery store pays me crap for the work I do." He was an unloader, the whole strength thing came in really handy when he had to bring stock out to the salesfloor. It took a lot of convincing on the Cullens' part to get him to let them buy food for him, citing the fact the Nessie ate human food from time to time, too.

As much as she loved her parents and how much they worried about her, sometimes she just wished that they'd gie it a rest. She wasn't a child anymore, clearly, and it wasn't like she was going to get hurt. Jacob was going to watch over her, and she was pretty indestructable like the rest of them but of course her parents had to worry like crazy. It was pretty normal for parents but with her they really didn't have to be that crazed with the worry. Anyways, if she was with Jake they knew she'd be safe. They had to know that much at least.

"I don't know why you keep that job," she said into his shoulder, her lips moving against the fabric of his shirt, "you don't need it. And you practically live here anyways." She sighed. "One day, when I'm fully grown and everything and I get to go to school, you'll come too, finish off high school and then we can go to college and you can get a real job instead of something minimum wage. You deserve better, Jake." She often thought about the future and attending school with him because she knew he'd be there. He wasn't going anywhere and the thought alone made her smile.

"I keep that job because I want to earn money of my own. As much as I like to, I don't want to sleep in front of the house for the rest of my life." Truth was, he was saving up money for when he and Nessie were together so he could actually take her places. That probably wouldn't be happening for a couple of years, but it didn't hurt to save up, right? "I don't know if I'm cut out for college. I could barely manage high school the first time around," he frowned. The prospect of high school with her didn't seem so bad, though.

He sighed, thinking about what she said about deserving better. As long as he was fed and warm and happy, he didn't really need much else. Maybe he'd be a mechanic...that wouldn't require too much school. And he was good at it...he'd rebuilt two motorcycles and two cars. "Right now, it'll do," he answered, stealing another gummy bear.

Nessie was looking forward to the day she could go to high school and experience it with Jake at her side. She kenw he'd come with her. It would be strange going to school with her parents and her aunts and uncles and pretending they were her siblings, that was for sure, but she'd get used to it after a while. She'd just have to block out any commentsd people would make about them and get used to calling them all by their names. Calling her dad Edward and her mom Bella would certainly be weird but she'd manage. She hoped she'd get to do that soon but she kenw she'd have to stop growing first.

Another thing that often happened when they watched movies? Nessie would fall asleep on Jake's shoulder because he was so warm and comfrotable. Tonight was no different. She found herself yawning halfway into the movie and soon her eyes were drooping. The bowl in her lap lay limply in her arms as she started to drift off, head firmly on Jacob's shoulder, hair flopping in her eyes. It was kind of hard not to fall asleep with such a big, warm, comfortable pillow next to her. Really, she was only human, well half-human anyways.

Knowing the Cullens, they'd have an airtight story about how they were all related and how Jake came to be a part of the family. But they wouldn't venture into a new high school until Nessie stopped growing. She'd change too much to just be able to chalk it up to normal human growth. That wouldn't be too long from now, hopefully.

Jake was hyper-aware of the change in Nessie's breathing. Without fail, she'd always pass out and he'd either leave her on the couch and let her sleep there or take her back to her room in the cottage. Tonight, being Valentine's Day and all, Jake thought it was better that he put her upstairs in Alice's room. She wouldn't mind the wolf smell as much as Rosalie would and Alice and Jasper were off doing something grossly romantic together. Once the movie was over, he slowly and quietly took the bowl out of her lap and set it on the table. He looked at her sleeping face and smiled, holding her hand to his face so he could peer into her dreams. He set her hand back down as he lifted her up as gently as he could and carried her up to Alice's bed. "'Night, Ness," he whispered, kissing the top of her head as he pulled up the covers.
