WHO: Emily and OPEN
WHAT: Dinner is ready, but no one is home yet...
WHERE: Sam and Emily's house
WHEN: Early Evening
RATING: PG
STATUS: In-progress

Emily loved cooking. There was something about the methodical movements of chopping something up, or making exact measurements that seemed to sooth her. She'd been worried immensely about the pack lately. She didn't know what she would do without the pack. They were all her family and she wanted to be sure that they were safe, well fed, and taken care of. She wanted to be there for them. Sam had always been there for her, and she'd tried comforting him for so long. Now, she wanted to return the same thing as much as possible!

Her concentration wasn't completely on what she was doing, it came naturally. Her fingers moved to accommodate her chopping the onions. The heat of the stove wafted through the room, the burner already heating up the sauce, though she was still adding certain ingredients. She'd already sprinkled the basil in and the tomato sauce was already heating. Once she'd finished after a few moment she added the sliced onion. She wasn't finished yet, though! Emily took out the hamburger and put it in the skillet, breaking it apart with a fork so that she could brown it.

Cooking was something that took up her time and concentration. She didn't have to think about the fact that Sam wasn't home yet, and she had expected him earlier. She wasn't necessarily worried, but she did wish that he'd gotten home earlier. She really wanted to talk with him, find out what he was thinking. Emily knew for a fact that Sam might not want to speak with her about what he was feeling, though she really wanted him to. Emily wanted to know that everything was all right, and she knew something was going on. The Volturi were snooping around again...

It only took Emily an hour to finish up the lasagna, and the garlic bread. After she finished that and it was cooling, she made an easy salad: chopping up the lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrots, green peppers, and then putting in the cheese and croutons. Tossing it all together was the fun part, mixing all of the different ingredients! That took Emily a bit and once she finished she peered at the time, biting her bottom lip. Hopefully he'd be home soon, and maybe bring others with him. She'd already gathered up leftovers that she was going to take to Billy and Jake, and she'd made muffins as well, but she could only do so much cooking

Emily slid the salad into the fridge to stay cool and put the lasagna, which she'd put in one big dish, into the oven to stay warm. Now she didn't have anything to do with herself. Twirling her wring absently with her left thumb, Emily grabbed up the latest book she'd been reading and sat down at the table to wait, wondering exactly when she should take Jake and Billy the food she'd all ready set aside for them, as well as Nessie...

Sam's mind was anything but clear right now. He knew that those bloodsuckers from across the pond were back in town, and he wanted them out. The Cullens? He could handle them. He still struggled with accepting the fact that he couldn't do anything about the one that controlled emotions, but there had been a promise that it would never happen again, and he was banking on that.

But that actually was an accident. The other vampires? The royal ones? None of the killings they took part in were accidents. He'd been out on patrol and he'd picked up there scents. And strongly. He knew that those little bloodsuckers, the kids, were probably the ones behind it. They seemed like the trouble makers.

And he also knew that the other basically followed in their footsteps. He loathed the very idea of them being near the rez, it made him shake with anger. He'd finally given up on actually tracking them down, though. It was clear they weren't actually breaking the treaty, which was fucking ridiculous. Did they have to be so damn childish as to just toy with them? It made them seem like cowards.

Which, actually, they probably were.

He phased back and slipped on the shots he'd kept near a tree marked with his own scent before making his way back to the house. He knew that Emily was probably already expecting him; that he was late, and that she might be worried. He hated making her worried. He knew that she worried about all of them, but he hated adding to that worry.

He walked in the back door, straight into the kitchen and saw her reading. And by the smell and heat of the kitchen, she was cooking. A smile hit his face as soon as he saw her. His face lit up and he walked over and wrapped strong arms around her. "Mmmmm, hey."

Emily had read the same paragraph about five times before she was actually able to get on and dive into the book. She didn't have a clear mind, and she always tended to worry when she didn't have a house full. The pack, they were all her's really. Her boys, mainly. She fed them a good portion of the time, and she liked that responsibility. She liked seeing the house full with people and everyone having a place to relax, eat, and socialize. IT was a good atmosphere. And when they were eating at the house, she knew they were safe.

She was sure that they tried to be as safe as possible, but she was still inclined to worry, though she'd gotten better at pushing it aside and busying herself, it was definitely still there, and it would be, and she'd accepted that. Emily would worry about the pack, and her friends and family, it was in her nature. She knew what was going on, though, and she had reason to worry, really.

She didn't worry about the Cullen's so much, there was an understanding there, but with these other vampires, there wasn't. They didn't seem to have that same respect that the Cullen's did, and as Sam had been putting it, they were toying and teasing, toeing the line. Emily worried about what could result from that, and didn't feel very good about what could happen.

Emily had finally cleared her mind and was reading, turning the pages every few moments. She didn't even hear Sam come in, when she read, she tuned everything out. It was only when she felt strong arms wrap around her that she smiled lightly and put the book down, the page marked.

"Hey, you're late, is everything okay?"

She asked, her head turned slightly toward him, enough so that she could peck him on the cheek.

Sam almost felt like a surrogate father to the pack. Even though they all had fathers (well, apart from Embry, but at least they knew who his father was know! Sam was still getting used to the idea of having a brother), but Sam felt like the one that would always be there to help them, guide them, and protect them should they ever need it. And Emily would always be there to feed them. They definitely took care of their own.

Yes, they all had reason to worry. Sam didn't know what would happen with the stupid royal bloodsuckers. Especially since they were already getting rowdy and coming near the line. He suspected it was just to piss them off, and it worked. Damn them, why couldn't they just stay away? Was Forks really that appealing to them?

"Mmmm," he mumbled when she asked if everything was okay. "Those other vampires, the royal ones? They've been around the treaty line."

Emily wasn't everyone's mom, but she was good at keeping everyone well fed. And she liked to take care of people. She and Sam liked to make sure that they took care of the pack. Emily even tried to keep an eye out for Billy and others as well. She wanted to make sure that most of the people she knew was taken care of honestly. She was probably a bit too caring at times.

Then again, caring and worrying about people was a good thing at times too. It meant that she tried to cover all of her bases, as well as other things too. She was definitely worried about the vampires, though. They were dangerous, and she didn't know what was going to happen. She didn't understand why everything kept bringing them back.

"They're doing it on purpose again aren't they? Just to get to you...."

Emily suggested as she smiled at him, slightly, in a loving manner. She got up and gestured for him to sit down, grabbing a plate for him and getting everything out. She'd get him well fed and hopefully he could relax for a while after that!

"I made lasagna and salad, then garlic bread, so hopefully you can relax for a while."

She suggested, getting him a helping of lasagna.

The adults were just as important to him as his pack brothers. They were the ones that knew all the legends by heart, the ones that had introduced them all to the ways of being a wolf, had taught them the things that their father's had taught them. Sam knew that they wouldn't be were they were without them, and he was always grateful to them, so yes, he did his best to care for them when they needed it, as well.

Sam thought it a good thing that Emily cared so much. The pack needed not only strength through their phasing, but they needed supporters, as well. And that was what the girls did, especially Emily. It was important for them to know that they had people in their corner.

"Yeah, I think they are. Wouldn't put it past them,"

He sighed as he sat down, watching his wife lovingly. She took such good care of him. He really didn't know what he did to deserve her, but he'd gave up questioning that long ago. Now he just accepted it, loved it, loved her.

"It smells wonderful," he said. "And yeah, hopefully I can. It'll be a lot easier if you relax with me."

It was hard not to care about practically everyone on the rez. Emily had a soft spot for practically everyone. She knew most everyone, and it wasn't as if she could be mean, she lived with these people constantly, and she was happy that way too. She cared about the pack, the elders, the neighbors. They weren't a very large community, so it wasn't a bad thing that Emily cared either.

Moving to La Push had been one of the best things that had ever happened to Emily. She loved La Push, and being with Sam had changed her life, quite a bit honestly. She loved Sam, and she didn't want him to have to worry so much, or anything else. Being with Sam hadn't ever been what she considered a good plan, but things had just gotten better, so she'd changed, just like everyone else would have. She wasn't happy with the vampires at all, and it was an obvious thing, and no one would really. She chose to let the subject drop there rather than for him to dwell on it.

Emily heaped rather large helpings of food onto Sam's plate. She knew for a fact that he had a large appetite, most of the pack did. Emily set his plate in front of him with a grin.

"I'll relax with you, Sam."

She grinned, getting herself a small helping and setting her plate next to him quietly. She'd love to relax with her husband.

"I'm going to take some food to Billy and Jacob later."

She told him lightly as she pulled out two cups and poured iced tea into both of them, with a few cubes of ice as well, setting them onto the table before sitting herself down.
