New Monsters

Who: Corey and Dhaval
Where: Dhaval's room
When: Midday-ish

The storm made it a lot harder to go out like he usually did, but Corey still did it. He came back much sooner than usual, though, and soaked to the skin despite having taken his usually effective coat to keep the rain off. He'd come back with a few more apples, and a few more bags of chips-- useless things, but maybe the kids would like them-- but not much else. Blitz smelled like a wet dog, despite being mostly a cat, and had been very unhappy about it, though she'd been quite happy to get dried off with one of his towels, playing with it like it were some kind of cat toy.

At least he knew what he was going to do with his enforced idleness. The day before he'd sensed three more monsters "waking up" in the hotel, and he could tell those weird eggs had hatched. Now that he had time, he was going to see what was going on with 'em.

The stronger sense brought him to a room on the first floor, where he rapped firmly on the door, though he couldn't imagine who was in there. It looked like it was nothing more than a storage room.

Oh, great, scary guy. )

Eh, who needs rules?

Who: Etienne and OPEN
Where: The billiards room
When: After lunch

Etienne played pool like he had a broken arm. He wasn't sure why he'd never gotten the hang of it. He'd certainly loitered around in a lot of poorly-lit bars and shady restaurants with pool tables, and playing pool was just the kind of skill a wandering bluesman and jack of all trades should have. The fact remained that he'd never won a game in his life, and the only times he'd managed to profit off a game, it had been a cut of a pool-shark's profits for bolstering a mark's ego. The green felt and the little white ball just evaded him.

So he was sort of glad to have the room to himself while he killed time clacking the balls around. The hotel's general classiness had resulted in a much nicer poolroom than he was used to, so in part he was just enjoying the ambiance. There wasn't a lot else to do on a grim, cold day like this. (Despite his wanderings, Etienne still had the rather thin blood of a southerner and didn't take well to even an early autumn chill.) He'd started out trying to play both side of a game against himself, but he'd lost interest in actually trying to follow that, and had moved to just inventing random challenges that he inevitably failed. At the moment, he was seeing how many times he could hit the 8-ball with the white ball that probably had a real name that he couldn't think of. He was pretty sure he was winning.

Weathering the storm

Who: Dhaval and Tayne
Where: Their room
When: Early morning

Dhaval woke with a soft smile to the sound of rain on the windows. It was just such a comforting noise. If everything else fell away, there'd always be rain to wake up to. It was almost completely dark in his room, but he wasn't sure if that was the hour or the weather at work. He blinked a few times, noting his arm was around Tayne and that Rashmi was still making little snuffling noises, so probably asleep. As he lay still and listened, the raindrops grew harder and more frequent until it sounded like a proper deluge, and he smiled to himself as a distant growl of thunder rolled by his ears. He wasn't sure why he loved storms so, but nothing struck him as as lovely to watch, as comfortable to listen to, and so quietly exciting. There wasn't much electricity in the air inside, but Dhaval could still feel a light prickle at the back of his neck. Lovely.

Does make it a little harder to enjoy a good storm. )

Hatching's a messy kinda business

Who: Tayne and Taylor
Where: Taylor's room
When: Afternoon

With a twitching and shaking egg in the crook of one arm, and a half-empty platter of meat on the other hand, Tayne didn't have much left to knock with. He looked helplessly at Taylor's room, and rather than kicking it, like he'd done for Dhaval, he finally called through the door, "Taylor? You in there?" He hoped to hell she was. He wasn't sure he had time to hunt her down through the whole hotel, before this damn egg hatched all over him.

I'm curious what'll come outa this one. )

Burying the hatchet

Who: Megan and Tony
When: Mid-morning
Where: Tony’s room

It had been nagging at Megan’s mind for a week now, how she’d left things with Tony. She’d tried to forget it, but she just hadn’t been able to. The way he’d acted the last time they’d talked, when she’d had a panic attack set in as he touched her... she’d tried to tell herself he deserved it from what had happened, but the fact of the matter was that he didn’t. Nobody deserved it, really.

She’d found out from the large man with the deep voice- Andre, she vaguely remembered- what room Tony was in and was determined to make things right. Thankful that the room number signs were also in braille, she’d followed the wall, feeling the numbers as she went. Finally, she found his room. She took a deep breath and said a small prayer to the Goddess to give her strength before knocking on his door.

I’d appreciate it if you didn’t kill me. I’ve got Pilates later. )

The Hatching of Tayne Junior and Rashmi

Who: Tayne and Dhaval
Where: Their room
When: Early afternoon

It'd been a successful trip out. Tayne had brought home some fresh peaches and tomatos from someone's backyard that hadn't gone bad yet, a couple small tomato plants and baby trees from another backyard that he managed to transplant into the back of the truck he'd borrowed, and a dead monster he could butcher and stuff in the fridge.

Getting the monster corpse taken care of, and leaving the uprooted and dirt-packed plants in the back of his truck where hopefully they'd be okay until later, Tayne tromped upstairs for a shower and a change of clothes. He was all bloody, after all. Tromping back down the stairs afterwards, he of course had to check on the eggs on his way to track down Dhaval.

It had been a pretty long afternoon. Dhaval had put a few hours in at the gym and was still a little damp from his shower. His hair was tied back and he was in only his undershirt, a bit tired but feeling better, despite his still-useless finger. That was the longest he'd gone at a stretch without stopping in at the closet.

What, you don't like the name Stanley? What about Thunder Tenbears? )

Let There Be Light

Who: Andre and Corey
Where: The basement
When: Morning

And God said, let there be light. And there was light, and it was good. Andre thought back to the beginning of the Bible with a smile as he finished off a nice hot breakfast for a change. It was amazing the difference electricity made on your disposition. He didn't know who to thank for the hot meal, besides the Lord at least, but he wasn't going to complain. It had been far too long since he'd had a decent meal, and for a man his size, that was too long. He knew he could stand to lose some weight, but this had been bordering on the ridiculous.

Still, he had work to do, and he didn't want to put it off any longer. He'd heard something through the vents and wanted to investigate. The last thing he wanted was for something else to be rummaging around in the basement, or worse, that big nasty spider to have left a few babies someplace that the firebug hadn't been able to catch. His trusty shotgun in one hand and a flashlight in the other, he headed downstairs, silently wishing he'd had the human flamethrower with him, although he wasn't entirely sure the boy would've been up to it again so soon. He was still feeling a bit off from overuse of his own power and hoped he wouldn't have to go invisible again today. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death..." Andre mumbled as he started down the stairs.

Oh, shut up, cat. Don't think he's going to shoot us )

Allies

Who: Tayne, Brent, and Steven
Where: The lobby
When: Early afternoon

After spending the morning baking, making good use of the returned power to get as many loaves of bread baked as possible and tucked away in the fridge to keep mold at bay, Tayne had been a little late to the "folks showing up" party. As soon as he heard, though, he left his ovens with new loaves baking in them and a few more still rising and hurried out to try and hunt them down.

That's the hope, anyway. )
