Who: Ginny and Hermione
When:
Where: Stores and stuff
What: Dreaded dress shopping
Rating/Status: Pretty low/In-progress

Ginny was starting to think that planning an entire wedding in less than a week really was mental. She was entirely grateful that her mother had basically already planned the entire thing out. That fact had surprised her, but in retrospect she thought it made sense. As sappy as it sounded, she and Harry were practically made for each other. The thought brought yet another stupid grin to her face, which was getting old fast when people continued to look at her like she'd escaped from a mental institute.

The one thing Ginny wasn't excited about though, was this whole dress business. Making such a big hassle over a piece of clothing you'd only wear for a few hours had never made much sense to her. She liked looking nice, of course, but didn't put as much stock into it as other women did.

After making a stop to say a quick hello to her dad, and then another slightly longer hello to Harry, Ginny was knocking on Hermione's office door. She didn't wait for an answer before going in and giving her friend a pained sort of look. "I'm ready for shopping," she said, sounding anything but ready.

Hermione was hidden behind a particularly large stack of books and parchment. She had one quill in her hand, and a ballpoint pen tucked behind her ear and one in her hair. She was taking notes on a scroll that was unrolled over the front of her desk and about a foot onto the floor. And she was smeared in ink. She had black all over her hands and a little bit on her face where she'd rubbed it with her smudgy fingers. To say she wasn't exactly ready to go shopping was probably putting it mildly. Not that Hermione cared what she looked like. She never really had.

Peeking around her books toward the door, Hermione raised an eyebrow at her best mate. "Well don't sound so happy about it, Gin." Disappearing back behind her stack, Hermione finished jotting down the last note she was on. She cast a spell on her desk, marking where she was in her notes and on what page where, and making it so that no one could move her stuff. She needed it exactly how it was when she returned.

"Is it raining out today?"

Despite her trepidation about dress shopping, Ginny couldn't help grinning at her friend, who looked like a bit of a mess. "I'm not happy about spending the afternoon trying on froofy dresses and being fussed over," she told Hermione, giving her a look that clearly meant the other girl should have known that.

"It's just a bit cloudy. You've got ink on your face." Ginny pointed at the spot, shaking her head slightly. She pulled out her wand and shot a simple cleaning spell at Hermione, grinning when the ink spot vanished. "I haven't any clue where we're supposed to go to find this dress, so I hope you do. And I'm not trying on anything that will make me look like a marshmallow."

Hermione grabbed her jacket, but then thought better of it and put it away. She didn't feel like lugging it around if she was going to be trying on bride's maid dresses. She tucked her wand in her pocket just as Gin cast a cleaning spell on her. Hermione wiped at her face, feeling to see if it was really gone. Obviously it was. Not that Hermione cared. But it would probably look better when trying on dresses if she looked like she cared.

"You know you don't have to get some frilly, froofy, marshmallow dress, right?" Hermione ushered Ginny out the door and closed and locked it behind her. Then the girls headed up toward the street. "We're going to go into downtown London. Their dresses are so much better than the ones in Diagon." Hermione knew. She had looked. Not that she would admit that. She was still waiting for Ron to get his head out of his arse, after all. "I've seen you in dresses, Ginny. It won't be hard to find something you like that doesn't make you look like Phlegm did."

Ginny followed Hermione, trusting that her friend knew where they were going. She was looking a little pouty, but perked up slightly when the other girl reminded her that she didn't have to try on things she didn't like. It seemed like the day had just suddenly gotten a little brighter. She still didn't really fancy the idea of people fussing over her though.

"I suppose I don't mind the dress part so much," Ginny admitted, shrugging. "I'm just really really not looking forward to all of the attention and hassle. This wedding's already blowing up into something huge." She frowned slightly at that, and sighed. She hadn't wanted anything big, but apparently everyone else had a different idea.

Leading Ginny out to London, Hermione hailed a cab. It wasn't too terrible of a walk, but it was long enough. Hermione figured they'd be better taking a cab. She didn't know downtown London well enough to get them to the strip they needed to be on. She also wasn't in any mood to spend half an hour walking when they didn't have to. So they got a cab and climbed in. Hermione gave quick directions and then turned back to Ginny.

"Well, you should have known. Your mum is... well, your mum." Hermione was still scared of Mrs. Weasley. That woman was a beast sometimes. She could raise an eyebrow and everyone within a five mile radius whimpered in fear! "Not to mention Harry is Harry. You'll be lucky if we don't have to fight off a million paparazzi." Especially if anyone knew where they were going today. That was another fantastic reason to shop in muggle London.

Ginny slid into the cab next to Hermione, glad for a chance to get off her feet. Walking normally wasn't a big deal, but she'd been exhausted lately, and the thought of letting someone else chauffeur them around was a welcome one. She relaxed a little against the seat, turning a little to face Hermione.

"You know, sometimes I forget how famous he is," Ginny remarked, smiling wryly. And although she'd never actually admit it, she was rather famous herself; not only for dating Harry Potter, but also because of Quidditch. Newspapers and reporters were sure to have a field day when they found out about the surprise wedding. "Hopefully no one will find out until after all of this is over. I don't think I'd be too happy having to hex anyone during the ceremony."

"I think we all forget." Especially when so worried about trying to keep the world from falling into war again. It was just another normal day. Which was a really terrible thing to think or say. But it was the truth. Sadly it was the way their lives worked. There was never very much calm for them. Hermione was just trying to focus on the good stuff. Like Harry and Ginny's wedding.

The cab stopped and Hermione paid. Then the two climbed out. Hermione waved at a long line of bridal shops. "Pick a store. We've got all day." Hermione let Ginny lead. It was her dress, so wherever she felt the most comfortable was fine with Hermione. "And I'm sure we won't have to hex anyone. Besides, there are enough family members that you won't have to do the hexing yourself."

Ginny stepped out of the cab, looking apprehensive at the row of dress shops Hermione had just pointed out. "All day?" she said weakly, laughing in a stressed sort of way. She debated for a moment before pointing at the shop right in front of them.

"I guess we can just work our way down the line," she reasoned, entering the little bridal store which was full to bursting with white poofy dresses and smelled too strongly of roses. She resisted the urge to wrinkle her nose and run away immediately. "I guess it wouldn't be very ladylike to run around hexing people on my wedding day," Ginny agreed, smiling a little at the thought as she perused the dresses in the store.

Hermione laughed, following Ginny through the door of the first shop. "You're so picky I have no doubt we'll spend the rest of the day looking for dresses." Hermione was just as picky, of course. But this was Ginny's wedding, so her dress didn't have to look perfect. Hermione would just grab whatever Ginny liked best and be done with it. It was more important that Ginny was beautiful and comfortable on her day.

"If you were ladylike on any day I think Harry would have a heart attack," Hermione teased, smirking as the sales associate approached them. Seeing Ginny's terrified face, Hermione had no problem taking the lead. It was, after all, what she did best. "We're looking for a dress for a very small wedding. Nothing frilly or poofy or too girly. Just a simple dress."

"I'm not that picky," Ginny muttered, looking like a sullen toddler for just a moment. She normally wasn't picky, but she supposed maybe she had a right to be this time, for a little bit at least. "And hey, I know how to be a lady. You say that like I've got the worst manners in the entire world!" Ginny laughed, shaking her head.

When the sales person came over to them, Ginny let Hermione talk to her, feeling rather out of place in her jeans and tshirt. She crossed her arms over her chest, chewing on her bottom lip. "Maybe.. maybe a little girly," she interjected, blushing slightly. It was her wedding afterall. If there was ever a time to look like girl, this was it.

Hermione laughed. "Of course not, Ginny. But you're not some prissy princess either." Hermione smirked as the sales person lead them over to the first rack of not-poofy dresses. "You're not anything like Phlegm, thank Merlin!" Picking through the racks, Hermione laughed a bit as she glanced at Ginny though the corner of her eye. It had been a few years, but she was sure both of them remembered the terrible bridezilla that had married her eldest brother.

"A little girly? So ruffles and lace?" Hermione wasn't trying tease. Well, okay, just a little. But she knew the more she pushed Ginny away from the girly, frilly, traditional type dresses, the more Ginny would push back. She might have gone into this thing with a bias, but Hermione was sure Harry would be thankful Hermione was trying to make his fiance at least consider something girly.

Ginny cracked a grin at the comment about Fleur, stifling a laugh. "She's not that bad," Ginny said, biting her lip as she did. It was no secret that Fleur wasn't exactly Ginny's favorite person in the world, but she didn't have any sort of grudge against the woman, not like Hermione did at any rate.

Her face screwed up immediately when the words 'ruffle' and 'lace' were brought into the conversation. She went through the dresses on the rack slowly, really trying to give them all a good chance. "I don't know if I'd go that far, Hermione. I mean, I want to look nice... not like a cupcake."

Hermione's grudge wasn't so much a grudge. Fleur just irritated her to no end. She thought she was so much better than everyone else. And she was so pretty and prissy. And it just irked Hermione. Not to mention the whole wedding thing had been frustrating. Bridezilla was putting it mildly in Hermione's opinion. Of course she never really considering that she was probably going to be rather similar if Ron ever got around to proposing.

Moving over toward Ginny, Hermione started rifling through the dresses. "Well, there is elegant lace and ruffles, you know. You wouldn't have to look like some poofy dessert or something." Hermione pulled one dress off the rack. It was simple, with a little bit of lace around the neckline and wrists. "How about this?"
