Under the Gazebo
Adam knew he wasn't exactly welcome in the VIP section, but it was quieter and allowed a little time with MK before the party really started up. He was in a good mood, for the first time in months. Color was back on those bony cheeks and he even managed to smile at people awkwardly that recognized him. Hank had started talking to him. There wasn't taunts or jabs at his love life. Just occasional chat about life before the Avengers went to hell. About Seattle before that went to hell, too. All Hank ever wanted was a sympathetic ear and after talking to MK and Bruce, he was starting to get better. It would be a slow, rocky process, but Adam believed he'd be okay. He had to.
As he left her to just get drinks, Adam thought about how he was going to tell her everything was going to be okay. How she had helped in the long run. He picked up two glasses of brightly colored drinks, when a tipsy, raven haired girl stumbled up to him. "Aren't you Doc Waterhouse?" He turned, surprised at being noticed even though his recent time in the tabloids was likely the explanation. "Are you seriou-seriously here with Maddie Kate? You know she like- totally-" The girl took out her phone and held it up to him. On the screen were scandalous words about MK's new flame with blurry pictures of her having dinner. His whole body felt like it was in an out of control elevator, arms dropping to the side as he almost lost his grip on the drinks. "You didn't knooow about this? Where have you been?" The girl lightly touched his arm. "I'd never cheat on you, doctor. I think you're-"
But, Adam was gone. He vanished into the crowd, walking back towards the VIP section as the drinks sloppily spilled on his hands and sleeve. Hank was quiet again. Everything was coming to a full stop. Catching MK's eyes he handed her a half full glass without an apology and looked back over the crowd past the VIP section. "Wanted to talk-" He started, glancing a look over at her like he was trying his hardest to keep a polite gaze on her face.
