Rating: No warnings, just her first trip through the door
Mulan stepped through the door and found herself on a familiar road. She looked around, studying the landscape and breathed a happy sigh. Home. The trees, the dusty road, the birds flying around, it was all familiar. Holding out her hand, she wiggled her fingers, laughing at how good it felt to see her body again. Quickly she started down the road, wondering if the house would be there. Logically she knew that her family wouldn't be there but if she could see the house, see her home again, Mulan would feel better. It was only a short walk to the village and then she topped the hill and saw it. "Home..." she breathed and broke into a run for the small house on the corher. Mulan hurried through the door and into the courtyard. Everything was the same, nothing looked any different than the day she had left it twelve years ago. Or twelve years ago in her reality. She took her time, walking through the rooms, touching all the familiar objects, surprised to find food in the cabinets, the sleeping mats ready for her to rest on should she decide to stay. The idea was tempting and Mulan realized that she wanted to. Not forever but definitely for a few days. After exploring the house, she walked outside again and glanced toward the stable where she thought she had heard a noise. Could it be? Mulan walked over to the stable and opened the door and there he was. "Khan!" she cried and ran over to the horse, wrapping her arms around his neck, buring her face in it. "Oh Khan, I'm so glad to see you," Lifing her head, she wiped the tears from her eyes. "Now that I know you are here, I will come more often. Would you like to go for a ride?" She smiled at the horse and quickly gathered things together and saddled him. Although it had been some time since she'd been on a horse, it was second nature to her and Mulan mounted and turned Khan toward the door. They rode for a good while, Mulan taking in the countryside, smiling at all the familiart sights she had missed so much. Far too soon, it began to grow dark and she had to turn toward home. Once she had rubbed Khan down and settled him for the night, Mulan went into the house and made herself some dinner then settled down in what had once been her room to lie on her mat and think. Home. She'd never realized how much she had longed for it but now she was here. She had to go back eventually and she knew that but for now, for tonight, she was home. |
