"Hi." For once he didn't look like he was ready for a night out on the town as they so often did. No jacket, no tie, but his shirt sleeves still covered down to his wrists and he'd traded his pants for new ones instead of the ones he walked around in all day yesterday. Both hands were shoved into his pants pockets in a very rare display of nerves.
She looked like he felt in a way he would never display. Inhaling sharply, he jerked his gaze from her to the room beyond. Was her family there? Had they banded around her? But there were no voices beyond the TV and if they were there, they were quiet.
He should have thought about that before he came, but he hadn't. "I --" he paused, breathed in, his gaze settling on her again. "I needed to see you. I'm sorry. I would have called first."
