Who: Kitane and Helena What: Leaving Vegas When: Now Where: Vegas Warnings: I snuck some sads in there.
Her goodbyes said, Helena tucked in the back of her mind, small like she used to do when she was with Tristan, Kitane left the bus station in the sand and the wind, head tucked down. Sand covered her footsteps and beside her, Stark's eyes were nearly shut, but he continued on at her side, footsteps slow and plodding in the wind.
She did not take the bus, though she had enough money left on the card that Theo had given her so long ago. It was in her wallet, tucked into her back pocket along with her ID card. The only other thing she had was her backpack, stuffed with clothes that she wanted to keep, those items that she would miss most if she left them behind. Her knife, a thinner knife for fish, a charger for her phone, her toothbrush and a brush for her hair. She needed nothing else.
She had done more with less and now would be no different as she let her feet carry her out of the city, past the sand and the bright lights, away from the hotel and the door that was making Helena sick and north, so she and Stark could see snow. She'd come south again before winter really hit, maybe return to San Francisco and the happies, enjoy the time by the sea again.
'Maybe they'll get another me, Helena piped up in the back of her head. It was all plans and hopes, a desperate gamble to bring them both peace. 'Maybe Bruce and Selina will have a me of their own and everything will be better. They deserve that.'
Kitane wasn't sure that she agreed, but she did not have the words to tell her that she might be wrong. After that, Helena retreated again, away from notice like the sand that was calming down the further away from the city she walked. She went so far and Kitane let her, not knowing what else to do for the little bat and missed it completely when Helena slid from her mind.
